Homeland: The Brody Bunch

2 episodes, 1 night. I'm sure many have seen the commercials. Will this show be as good without Brody? I think so. Danes is amazing (I have had a crush on her since R&J) and the writing is very good. Unless some think that Brody didn't die. Thoughts?

I'd be amazed if Brody survived. The only way he's coming back is if this season bombs and they want another one. It has been stupid enough at times where such a miraculous stunt could be pulled off. I'm hoping the loss of Brody means the show can get back to its roots though. If this season doesn't impress then I'm out. Fingers crossed they don't introduce a new family where the explots of the teenagers take up 20% of the show.

Agreed with Danes - I'm hoping she doesn't get to have to do "losing her shit again" but instead we get to see that intensity from her love of being in the thick of it.

I discussed with husband the possibility of Brody being alive and we both agreed it would be pointless. He had his purpose, his story it was over one could argue in season 2 finale. His story in season 3 was meh and exploiting his character further more would be like beating dead horse. I am looking forward to see what is the new angle they take on this season and I think it would be a breath of fresh air.

A question: I've seen s1 and s2. S1 I thought was really good, excellent at times. S2 started good but went downhill and s3 felt pretty damn pointless to me. Is it worth seeing s3, does it end good? I'm a fan of espionage stories in general but I dunno if it's worth it.

There are other spy shows that might be a better alternative.

Season 3 was the weakest one. Brody's story was meh, Carrie's was interesting on occasions and the way they ended it gives them potential to get back in the saddle, that is why I've decided to stick with it this season as well to see where it goes.

Yeah, that's kinda what i'm thinking. Maybe it's worth seeing s3 if s4 will be great. I still like the core of the show and Carrie is a pretty interesting character.

Season 1> Season 2> Season 3 with season 3 being the weakest by a lot. The Americans, a Cold War spy show was never better than Homeland Seasons 1 and 2 IMO. But is on par with season 3.

Yeah, The Americans is what I was thniking about when writing my post. The Cold War spy theme is very tempting to me. A great period to have stories set in.

Carrie was for me what made season 3 watchable. Her story and her development as a character were interesting for me to watch. After season 3 finale it's her I'm most interested in.

I'm not very hopeful tbh. S3 wasn't good with him. The last episode had the feel of a series finale, so it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

The show is silly enough to bring him back. The thing is season 3 was all about getting is used to the fact he wouldn't be in it. He was only around for 4 episodes I think. It partly crippled the show and one could argue they should have just ripped the plaster off.

Not a bad episode, but still nowhere near what we had in season 1. It looks like most of the story will be away from the homeland, which, I thought, what this show was about. The stakes don't feel the same yet.

Part of the problem is that what made the first season so interesting was the question of whether Brody was a terrorist and whether Carrie was insane (or both). That was the main draw for me, otherwise it was just 24 trying to be classy. The thing is you can only milk that for so long and I was surprised they were able to come up with a decent angle for the second season in all honesty.

Now we're left with a "classy" 24. The problem is whether it is "classy" at all as there've been enough "24" like elements to say it's that level of show (with better acting). I probably won't get to see the episode until tomorrow so I'm interested to see what the new hook is.
