Early Theories Since Disproved

There was a somewhat elaborate theory called the "corn code" (I think it had to do with GRRM putting in secret codes based on the use of the word corn in the book, but I never really focused on the details of this crazy theory) that was eventually abandoned. I believe it sparked quite a bit of debate at one time until it was ultimately disproved.

Between the 1st book and the 3rd book:

"Oh my God Robb is going to kill everyone and avenge his father by killing Joffrey, Cersei, Tywin and everyone else who ever said something bad about him!!!"

That one.

Show watchers also believed that. In fact, Cristina Kirchner, president of Argentina, tweeted saying she was a fan and wishing that one happening.

Eres argentino? Colombiano por acá. Saludos!

Yeah, I believe George really wanted everyone to believe this. Just to break a million hearts later.

As I understand it, there was a 'grand unifying theory' (or something worded similar) that was big news way back when. It concerned Littlefinger controlling everything, but crucial elements were disproved by the release of SoS.

I think Ran said he had a big part in the theory.

I did read that one older theory was that Benjen Stark is the Three-Eyed Crow.

Since disproved...and the debate on where is or what happened to Benjan Stark continues.

Lyssa's admitted that she killed Jon Arryn, so the theory that it was the Lannisters is debunked.

Oooh, what if the North loops all the way over the top of the planet, and becomes the North of Middle Earth as well? Like if Canada and Russia were one landmass linked by the North Pole. It would explain why the dragons came from the north. Also would explain why the Witch-King, a man neither living nor dead, has his base in the north of Eriador.

When you start thinking about it...it fits too well...but we know it can't be...or...

I doubt that this was intended by Martin, but it is so awesome that I choose to accept it as a fact.

Or maybe planetos is actually middle earth but in the distant future, and all the myths in the story are corruptions of the story of LotR. :p

Not so sure about that one. Perhaps Bran's efforts to reach the 3-eyed crow were foiled when he was intercepted and trapped by the sinister 1001-eyed raven.

Of course now that I think about it, the theory falls to shreds when we have to place the undying lands on this fictional planet as well. Though the destruction of Numenor could coincide with Valyria's apocalypse.

I think the "LF is behind all bad things theory" is the theory that sent GRRM crying to his editor that he had to change the ending because someone worked it all out. That would explain why we have an underwhelming explanation for Bran's assassination because originally it was supposed to be LF pulling the strings but GRRM decided he wanted to prove that theory wrong. Joff also gets the blame for Ned's death which probably would also have been revealed to be LF. Or maybe GRRM is just planting red herrings and in the end LF will revealed to have been behind most bad things, even the events we already have explanations for, and the grand unified theory will have been right all along.

Slightly mad, I know.
