Captain America 3: Civil War -- Hang onto your Underoos

Awesome. That's one of the better plots they could have taken.

I do appreciate marvels willingness to take the good plots from the comics instead of just the characters. In extremis, winter soldier, age of ultron and now this.

It works well enough. And there are plenty of heroes that Marvel owns the rights to that can make appearances to make fans go oooh and ahh and whatnot. Basically all of the pantheon that Netflix is setting up.

Which if you think about it is even better commercial appeal. You have these series that netflix can flesh out, and then give them token appearances in this.

Having not read extremis, how did you like the movie? It didn't feel all that special to me, and while I liked the overall idea of the character arc, I thought the movie was mostly forgettable.

When I first heard about Marvel's movie universe plans I'd hoped Civil War would be on the docket some time in the future. That the future is almost here is both weird but exciting!

Does the Civil War story work without dozens of heroes?

All the heroes made it so much more epic but I think it would also work on a smaller more personal scale.

I can't see the movies Iron Man being all that into a Registration Act.

It depends on what damage Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch do in Age of Ultron and how the introduction of Mutants is handled.

I agree it works on the smaller scale for character, but the story needs scale too. And as Iron Man and Cap are the two central figures...

Ah. I'm willing to see where it goes. I can't subscribe to a lot of what Bendis did to Marvel, but this is a story that does have substance and could translate very well.

Though couldn't they subtitle the movie "Tales of Suspense"? :p

I loved what they did with the mandarin and while the main villain was a bit lame I liked most everything else.

Reed Richards and Peter Parker are also central --and IMO-- indispensable to the story.

Spiderman pulling off his mask on TV was among my favorite comic moments ever....

Well, there was that rumour recently that Sony was trying to negotiate its way into the MCU by offering Spiderman for Marvel's cinematic use... I think the idea is that Spiderman could appear in Avengers, under Marvel, while Sony continues to produce their own Spideman movies, and benefit from the MCU connection.

I'd guess that would include Spiderman villains as well.

As for Civil War, I see no reason the Netflix characters and Agents of SHIELD people with special abilities wouldn't be used. Not every character needs an origin story before being introduced and used for 2 minutes in the Civil War story.

Am I reading the article incorrectly? It seems to be that Cap 3 will set up Civil War meaning it's more likely it'll be "Avengers 3: Civil War"? I don't know maybe it's too early in the morning for me as other parts of the article make out Cap 3 is essentially going to be "Dawn of Justice" but with actors we like playing characters we like.

If it triggers Civil War it makes much more sense to me as surely you need every MCU character in tights (excluding guardians of the galaxy) to be involved in Civil War for it to have any impact? And then I'd argue it may as well be an Avengers film if it features everyone.

But I'd be cool with a storyline that is Cap vs Iron Man and how that spills out into a civil war.

Maybe they can have Cap die at the end of the film and Avengers 3 deals with the ensuing civil war. slightly different from the comics but it's going to be different just because they don't have the whole cast

It does seem to fit with the rumours of Sony loaning out Spider-man and how Avi Arad said "only if Parker is the centre of the story". In the comics spidey is very much in that role as he changes sides during it.

Season 3/4 of SHIELD may be worth watching though :)

If they do Civil war it provides a nice way to set up a "planet hulk" story, I'd say

I changed that for you before Fox finds out :P

With regards to Civil war 2015 comic being announced, it was suggested the next event (or 4 events down the chainline) would be messing with time. I wonder if they may be going back and retconning civil war so that all the Fox characters play no part at all? given the hatred of the FF in comics by marvel, it would make sense. The X-men don't really play a big part at all in Civil war so that's an easy bullet to dodge.

I'd definitely think that Civil War would be a full Avengers film. It'd be interesting to see how they could handle it in just a Cap vs. Iron Man film but I don't think it'd work as well. So this may just be a set up. I'm anticipating that Loki will be used in place of the large cast of villains the government unleashes to detain supers.

Oh... almost forgot.... Norman Osborne & the thunderbolts

Norman won't happen but I'd like to see the Thunderbolts. The original version though (which I think Marvel fully own). After GOTG I'm confident they could make a great T-bolt movie

Well, that's one way to make an exit for Chris Evans as Captain America.

Agreed. They could use Cap 3 to start the civil war and kill Chris Evans, and then continue it into phase 3.

Maybe the whole thing was initiated by Loki, acting on orders of Thanos to weaken Earth.
