Bumping for Benjen, Vol. III

Lady Blizzardborn

Recommended Posts

On the tenth day of Christmas, Benjen gave to me:

Ten skins of mead

Nine direwolf pups

Eight wighted rangers

Seven snowy Kingdoms

Six Kings a clashing,

Five black cloaks,

Four dragonglass daggers,

Three Wildling raiders,

Two three eyed ravens,

And a Bloodraven in a weir tree

On the eleventh day of Christmas, Benjen gave to me:

Eleven frosty Others,

Ten skins of mead,

Nine direwolf pups,

Eight wighted rangers,

Seven snowy Kingdoms,

Six Kings-a-clashing,

Five black cloaks,

Four dragonglass daggers,

Three Wilding raiders,

Two three-eyed ravens,

And a Bloodraven in a weir tree.

When we're done, I'm going to rewrite this to fit the melody a bit better. And I'm going to change my own contribution for Day 3 to "three baby dragons." :D

On the twelfth day of Christmas, Benjen gave to me:

Twelwe horns blowing,

Eleven frosty Others,

Ten skins of mead,

Nine direwolf pups,

Eight wighted rangers,

Seven snowy Kingdoms,

Six Kings-a-clashing,

Five black cloaks,

Four winds of winter,

Three Wilding raiders,

Two three-eyed ravens,

And a Bloodraven in a weir tree.

Here's my first draft of the revised version (last verse only). Tell me what you think.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, Benjen gave to me:

Twelve heroes fighting (or dying)

Eleven Others wighting

Ten daggers glinting

Nine Wildings raiding

Eight rangers missing

Seven snowy kingdoms

Six direwolves howling

Five clashing kings!

Four blowing horns

Three young dragons

Two secret Targs

and a Bloodraven in a weir tree.

ETA: adding seven, don't know how it disappeared in the first place.

still think three dragons dancing would fit better than young dragons. Although the two three eyed ravens were cool. What happend to seven?

It would except that at that point in the song the gifts aren't doing anything in particular. I'd have to have more dragons, at least six in total. Though it was nine ladies dancing, so it would really work best to have nine dragons dancing.

Plus they aren't dancing yet so...

Fixed the post.

There's really only one three-eyed raven. We can't let Bloodraven take over the whole song. :D

Six harpies hissing might fit better with eight rangers missing.

Or eight rangers scowling (ie at Jon [emoji6] )

But its good for a first draft.

I think it clashed a little too much with "Bloodraven"

I just thought...

Why not try ten year summer fading

Nine wildlings raiding?

I wasn't looking for rhyming lines. That one pair just happened. I actually counted and there are at least eight rangers who are currently missing, including Benjen.

Too many syllables there, sadly. I'm not all that attached to the daggers, particularly since there are more than 10.

It's a shame there are so many threes. We can't have all of them. Three stags for monarchs. Three lions lying. Three murders granted. Three Freys gone missing. Three Tully siblings. Three bad betrayals. Three Boltons bolting. Three Seastone claimants. On and on it goes.

The bolded ones are the real numbers, I would keep them for sure, what do you think?

Jon sent out three teams of three rangers. One team was killed. Two teams' fates are as yet unknown. That's six, plus Benjen and Stonesnake. Thus eight rangers missing. But then...there could be other rangers who are missing that we just don't know about.

Yes, I think keep the ones we do know the numbers on, and work on the others.
