As for the theories about the deepest secrets of the main series, I doubt the book will affect the conversation on them very much with a very notable exception, as one particularly controversial theory is about to become more popular than ever.

Controversial. Can't think of one more controversial than Aerys+Joanna.

Even if that's true, it doesn't mean Tyrion is a Targ. In fact I'd much prefer it the other way around. Having Tyrion as Tywin's only child would be one final and amusing kick in the balls for the old man.

Same here. I don't want any of Tywin's kids to be secret Targs, but it's really the only theory that a lot of fans seem to be against. Most people on the forums and other boards accept R+L=J, so I don't believe it's the theory the reviewer is talking about.

R+L=J is well known by a very small handful of people; those of us who hang out on an internet forum are not representative. For your average reader or TV viewer though, R+L=J is mindblowing stuff.

R+L=J is not controversial. Those that know about it either believe it, or hope it's not true for the reaction of those that believe it as canon.

People not familiar with R+L=J are not familiar with any theory, so calling it unknown does not make it controversial.

Controversial theories will be well-known amongst ASOIAF theorists but not amongst more general readers, and would be widely held to be wrong, hence controversial.

As WOIAF is history by a maester it is unlikely current conspiracies (GNC, Dornish conspiracy, HR=HS) could be reinforced. As has been noted it is also unlikely that any A+J theory would be reinforced either.

Most likely theories to be reinforced are Blackfyre theories if the Maester keeps records of the female line. So that would include the (f)Aegon, Varys theories as most likely as they are the most well-known ones.

Mindblowing maybe, but not controversial. It's already the most popular theory in the fandom, and a book written to King Robert Baratheon would likely avoid including any rumors of R+L.

Tyrion is a Targ?

Yes. Without a doubt.

ETA: I still don't think it's true. But I've heard ... stuff ... that leads me to believe Aerys/Joanna gets a nod.

ETA 2: Weirdly enough, it's actually because Aerys/Joanna allegedly gets a nod that I think the Tyrion thing isn't actually true. It comes off like GRRM's dangling it too much, if that makes sense. It's almost baiting. It could also be a case where the book mentions Aerys/Joanna but stops short of implying an affair, leading people to conclude that the book says something that it actually doesn't, sort like how everyone thinks a Stark dishonored Ashara at Harrenhal when that isn't actually what was said.

Wait wouldn't it be Jaime and Cersei- I mean if you think of it.... Those two remind me more of targs then Tyrion does. Tyrion is way... too rational. I guess I need to read this. Do we have a link to go a good tyrion and a good Jamie/Cersei one? Thanks in advanced!

Without pulling my skirt up too high, let's hypothetically say that maybe the Aerys/Joanna material could equally apply to the twins, if not more so than Tyrion, but that it's Tyrion who will probably get the attention because of the higher popularity of the theory relating to him.
