Sympathy for Cersei?

So the most popular view of Cersei is that she's a power-hungry, manipulative she-devil, and that she gets what she deserves at the end of AFFC, but is there more to her than meets the eye? Is she worthy of our sympathy?

Personally, I started to see her in a new light after AFFC. After seeing things from her perspective, I started to think maybe all the years of being treated like a pawn in her fathers game, being denied the respect she desperately wanted, and constantly being raped by The big stag man himself is what turned her into such a bitter, crazy witch.

And I also find her little musings quite hilarious.

Not defending her actions at all, but I can't help but think she's just one poor messed-up cookie.

Sorry if I'm bringing up old discussions, I'm new to this.

I personally do not sympathize with Cersei and do not want to empathize with her at all. She killed innocent children (Robert's bastards and at least one of the mothers), keeps a whipping boy which is a disgusting practice, turns a blind eye to Sansa's abuse and torments her with death during Blackwater for no reason but to get even with the Starks, a horrible mother to her children, abused Tyrion when he was a baby by twisting his dick (that shows that she was messed up even before being married to Robert) and murders a girl when she was an adolescent. Cersei wasn't "turned" into anything she wasn't as evidenced by her childhood murder of Melara and her abuse of Tyrion. She didn't deserve the abuse she got but I don't think that she was "turned" into anything she wasn't already. She is a horrible person as she delights in causing pain and humiliation She's an entertaining character but honestly I don't feel much for her.

Sure, a lot of the time people end up being douchebags because of being treated certain ways and things that happened in their past.

Go to any prison and research the history of the most hardened criminals, most of the time you will find they have been victim to major atrocities from an early age.

I'm sure Ramsay Bolton and Gregor Clegane had pretty traumatic upbringings.

Gregor really loved that toy that Sandor damaged. And I'm sure that Vargo Hoat will tell you a story that will bring tears to your eyes.

I think she deserves sympathy for getting shipped off to some brute to be neglected 90% of the time and practically raped the other 10%. However my sympathy for her ends in AFFC when she decides she hates any Tyrell or intelligent male in Westeros. Kind of like a much more annoying destructive Ollena without her political prowess.

Don't get me started on those poor tortured souls. They're all just misunderstood.

What about that time before she ever met the Stag Man where she pushed a girl down a well because the girl wanted to marry Jaime? The crazy has always been there.

Nah, Vargo Hoat obviously came from a loving home where he was constantly showered with love an effection, he just rebelled out of boredom one day and became a baddie. This is the only explanation.

Oooh I spelled something wrong, that means I lose the internet.

Lots of sympathy for Cersei here. She had a tough hand dealt to her and like a great deal of people she couldn't beat people given a better hand. That does not excuse her actions but I find it redundant to hate someone who was given less to not be as much as someone who was given more.

Poor, poor Cersei. Being born into the richest and most powerful family is Westeros is just so terrible.

Dude, he was neglected and was given materialistic items instead of love. Then he started having his downwards spiral. Get your facts right.

I think everyone just skipped the part where Shagwell told us about his life as a runaway from people who hated laughter. And the conversation where Biter revealed that he got teased for having such sharp teeth.

:'( its a cruel world.
