October Movies (scuuurrrryyy)

So I am renewing my Halloween movie watching this year and am finding myself less and less attracted to the gore and splatter that once tickled my black heart.

So far this year I've watched You're Next and realized: nope, time for me to move on from the slasher.

Coraline, perfect blend of childhood nostalgia and horror.

Halloween Tree (with my son): Perfect!

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust: Now here is a film that seems to get better every time I watch it. The music, the story, the characters that seem to shift between morality (no true morality exists in this movie except maybe Meier and Charlotte). D is more and more complex every time I watch it, the the music just gets me, hits the right notes. I love this movie. Its like everything a vampire hunting movie should be.

So going forward I am going to watch:

The original Vampire Hunter D: probably doesn't hold up as well, but what the hell.

The original Halloween. The slasher that isn't really a slasher.

Maybe Evil Dead 2.

Anything else? What do you guys think? I want something that just evokes...autumn and gothic. If I could get my hands on Captain Cronos Vampire Hunter I'd do it.

Hocus Pocus. Seriously. :)

You know, I've never watched it...why the hell not, right?

Corpse bride

Definitely putting that on the list! Forgot about that little gem!

The Exorcist, Amityville, and Friday the 13th.

For whatever reason a lot of people didn't realize You're Next was a black comedy.

I knew that it was supposed to be funny. Hey man, I love Evil Dead 2, Cemetery Man, Zombieland, etc. But You're Next defied some serious logic to make its point and was a big stinking mess of mostly bad acting and nonsense. It had some really awesome music and really awesome potential though. I love horror movies where someone kicks ass, that's the genre I write in myself, so I don't completely write You're Next off, I just think it could've been revised and polished so much more.

The Lost Boys

The Crow

Children of the Corn

My son (who is 9) got it in his head he wants to watch the Crow so bad. I'm like HELL NO (I mean it is really violent) but I'm kind of worried by the time he is old enough to watch the charm might have worn off. I don't know. I still like it I guess.

For as corny as it is, I really enjoy Dead Silence.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is on Netflix now. I always get a kick out of that.

Nightmare Before Christmas is on our list too.

I really enjoy Sleepy Hollow (the movie, clearly). I haven't watched that in a while.

Not sure if 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later classify as Halloween flicks, but I love those films. The opening scene in Weeks has my heart pumping out of my chest.
