If you are a fan of Arya...

Which I very much am, then you may like Flavia de Luce, and the series of books about her by Alan Bradley.

It starts with Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and I think the first three volumes have been gathered into one called the Buckshaw Chronicles.

I bring this up because the next book's release date was pulled back, which is something that never seems to happen these days, from March 10, to January 6.

So, in the depth of winter have a bit of fun, not thinking of the cold embrace some people seem to think Arya will end up in, with another 11 year old girl that is all sorts of naughty and fun, but less stabby.

What do you mean, like Arya but less stabby? Arya is defined by stabbiness! Is that like a Lyra? Dorothy? Alice? Scout? Hermione? Or do you mean in relation to traumas of seeing family murdered and becoming a basketcase traumatized because of it? Supernatural elements with the girl controlling animals? Or do you merely mean that it has a preteen girl protagonist?

Smart, resourceful, intelligent, interested in poisons, manipulative and completely independent, along with a more resplendent sister and a bit of a distant father. I don't know, I just know I quite like both of them.

Try reading the book.

Jesus, lol, well, this is that last time I stray from the Ice and Fire book forums. It's just I got some good news yesterday, the next book is coming out two months earlier. I really love the books, and I thought some of you might like to check them out. Bye!

It comes, I think, from Stanek, who was strongly rumoured to use sock-puppets to post speeches similar to what the OP posted: "If you like x, you will like Stanek", "ASOIAF is awesome, Martin at leasts reaches the level of Donaldson, Tolkien and Stanek", "Hermione is a strong woman who could be compared to <heroine X> from <Stanek's book>". That, and the current meltdown of the blogosphere over multiple authors being or having been humongous assholes to critics (and having used sockpuppets). So obviously nobody is going to accept without suspicion someone they don't know (hey, not a lot of people here frequent the book forums) saying "read that, it's awesome and you'll like it if you like ASOIAF" (basically)

There is also a sort of fatigue from having people both asking "What books like ASOIAF can you recommend" and recommending "If you like ASOIAF, you'll like <insert any book that happens to be a favourite of the poster>".

Speaking for myself, I like a more elaborate description than "it's awesome, there's a spunky preteen protagonist" and a simple "read it!" when requesting more details is somewhat annoying, as I still have been given no reason to add the stuff to my ever-growing to be read pile.

This begs the question, is there a place on this board where we are allowed to draw attention to our books in an honest and forthright manner?

I'm asking because I'll probably be releasing something soon. I'd like the boarders to read it (since the average critical intelligence here is far above the average reader), but don't want to violate any rules.

Don't worry, it doesn't have Dark Lord Dominatrixes in tight black leather or Chickens-who-aren't-Chickens (best threads on the board, btw).

There is nothing at all wrong with shameless self promotion on these threads. We have authors stop by all of the time letting people know about their books. What is a more grey area is for a person to pretend they are not an author or publicist to peddle their wares.

Or those who arrive new to this board and open a bunch of threads that are ostensibly NOT about their books, but which serve the purpose of promoting those books. I have no problem with self-promotion, but let's all be honest about it, yes?
