[TWOIAF Spoilers] What are the chances the Martells have...

Recommended Posts

If the Martells had the conqueror's crown, they should ahve a very good reason for not giving it to Daeron II when they entered to the realm: The Dornish Prince was his brother in law for the two sides, and Daeron II could have made ggod use of Aegon's crown when his legitimacy was being contested.

Later on, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be given to Aerys II after he choose to honor the Martells by marrying his heir to Ellia of Dorne (alienating his own Hand in the process).

Oh, yeah... we still hope one day Chile gives us back our precious treasure :(

Nevertheless, these are different circumstances. The Martells aren't only allies to the Targaryens, they're also dragons by blood, so to speak.

30 years after the raid on medway (in where the stern carving was captured), Willem III, king of the Netherlands, also became king of England, Ireland and Scotland.

so it was even closer; we had the same king. still didnt get back that stern carving.

I'd say that the significant point here would be that there's no benefit in keeping a "price of war" if nobody knows you have it.

If when they joined the crown, the Martells had negotiated that they had to keep their trophy as a symbol of prestige and to show the world that they were bold and powerful enuogh to capture the dragon's treasures and keep them, that would be one thing. It would make sense.

But keeping it hidden serves nothing to House Martell, and can only mean trouble for them once it is discovered that they have hidden it from the Iron Throne.

who knows if they keep it openly or not? its never stated they dont have it, and the change they at least had it after the "conquest" of dorne is pretty big.

The maester writing the story says that Maekar had a new crown made for him "since Aegon the Conqueror’s crown had been lost for many years after Daeron I’s death in Dorne." That piece of text wouldn't make sense if the crown was publicly exposed in Maekar's uncle's museum.

forget that sentence... you are probably right then :-(

One of Dorne's vassals could have taken it and never told the Martells until much later.

I do like this idea.

meh, that would be a tough one to explain... oh, yeah, we had this crown for a 100 years or so...

probably went the sameway as rheagar's ruby's

I'm clearly missing something- what is the evidence pointing to the Crown in the hands of the Martells/Dornish? Assassination of Daeron I?

Yeah. Daeron I was killed in Dorne and Aegon I's crown disappeared with him. I think they almost certainly have it; it's too big of a political boon to just toss it away. Jaehaerys I's crown is also in the wind somewhere.

the conquerors crown and plan to give it Aegon at Storm's End? No one would doubt him with that right?

When I read it was lost in Dorne I had that exact thought!

He did get Blackfyre back, but not the crown. I looked for any families present but they don't give names, only the dragonknight.

My guess is if the Martells have it, Arianne would have stolen it to crown Myrcella. Close to the boneway live the Yronwoods. Perhaps they have it? It is were Quentyn was fostered, maybe he planned to give Quentyn the crown when he would be king? He hasn't already, we would have noticed in his point ot view.

This crown is something Aegon and Dany would fight about.
