Of course we all know that this "Reek" incarnated is the lovely and charming Theon of House Greyjoy. In the television show I am assuming that it was painfully (no pun intended) obvious that Theon gets his junk hacked off by Ramsay Bolton (formerly Snow). However, the book only seems to allude to it... sort of. I was wondering, do we really know if Theon had gets his junk flayed/hacked off in the book like in the tv show? It would certainly explain his more docile nature, and the fact that he is less of a .... a... welll... less of a ... dick. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cassidyaj Posted October 30, 2014 Share Posted October 30, 2014 I don't recall them ever stating it. He often mentions how he doesn't REALLY need all of his fingers, but never mentions that. I think the docile nature just comes from the abuse that he has suffered from Ramsey and his boys. Even from just scraping some skin off myself accidentally, I can't begin to imagine the pain from being flayed. He flayed parts of Theon (i.e. fingers) and then made him beg for them to be taken off. He would have begged for that from the pain of the open wound. Theon says that Ramsey doesn't cut off parts unless you beg him to. (Sick little game of his, I guess.) I think this is the most damning evidence: After Ramsay and "Arya" get married, Ramsay brings Theon into his room and tells him to pleasure his bride to get her wet. Theon's response is something like, "I can't. I'm not even a man," or something to that effect. Then Ramsay tells Theon to use his tongue... There seems to be another piece of damning evidence there as well. In his thoughts, Theon seems to counting himself fortunate that Ramsay didn't take his tongue... just some of his toes, fingers, and that "one other thing".... yeah... Oh...I thought that he wouldn't use his...manhood... so as not to risk impregnating her and that he had no right to her or wish to deflower his master's bride or something like that. While that could definitely hint towards that, I also think he said that mainly because Ramsay doesn't allow Theon to call himself a man but rather his dog only. Ramsay has spent a long time telling Theon he is not a man but a creature or something like that so I think Theon meant that more literally. While it did take major balls to get fArya out of Winterfell, I think what makes an Unsullied Unsullied is the training process, of which castration is only a part.
