Wait a minute - how do we know that Varys is a eunich?

I was just thinking about this. Varys the Eunich...the whole story about how he lost his manhood. That's all it is: A story. How do we know it's true? Has anyone pulled Varys's pants down to confirm it? I think not. Varys might be a eunich, but he might also still have his manhood. For all we know, Varys is a woman.

This has been brought up before, I made the point that a normal person wouldn't have checked but the mad king very well may have. Most people seemed to disagree. But if you call stuff like this into question then we really have to question everything in the books. Its like when people try to say things such as Joffrey really was Roberts son, or anything that just flies in the face of the storyline.

He's none of the above. He is actually Kirby. It's all in the text.

For real though, it's possible, and would make sense. You're not vying for a better lot in life for your family name, so you're more likely to be loyal to the cause. Of course, unless you just tell everyone you are so they think that about you.

But, if say the mad king decided to check one day, then Varys would become ashes on the floor.

Short answer: we don't. But there is no reason to doubt it at this point.

The story of how he became a eunuch however, there may be reason to doubt that. If only because Vareys doesn't seem the kind to share that intimate detail truthfully.

I kind of roll me eyes about how he doesn't shut up about it. Every moment with him he says, "Remember how I am a eunuch? And I have no genitals? Also that my manhood was removed? Oh, and someone is plotting to kill you. Just like my testicles were killed."

This is why in my kingdom there'd be two-a-day eunuch checks, like early and late football practice, only instead of having them jog around the field they'd gather for the inspection and verification of their eunuchry.

Wasn't there a bit in Mel Brooks' History of the World like that? Kinda like that.

What's an Eunich?

Don't know about a Eunich but a eunuch, which Varys supposedly is, is a man who has had his external reproductive organs removed. It can be accomplished removing just the penis but sometimes the testes are also removed. Varys is said to have been cut "root and stem" so both.

Unless Varys' junk is what's needed as a sacrifice to raise Jon from the dead, I highly doubt the state of his genitals will ever carry any plot importance.

Someone once suggested that the cutting might have occurred around the time of Summerhall. Could be there was a reason. I have the sneaking suspicion that the wizard was hoping to cure his own erectile dysfunction. The flame did turn the color of Viagra.

Here, here! :agree: History of the World, Part 1. I'm kind of bummed that he never did a Part 2.

It was confirmed in the show by Ros, but not in the books.

He's not a woman. And he probably IS a eunuch. Given his possible (IMO likely) Targ heritage, he could make a play for the throne himself but he doesn't. Why? The most logical answer is because he cannot produce heirs to continue the line.

this, and this, but ESPECIALLY:

could tyrion be varys manhood? he was "born" around the same time varys was cut, maybe he was varys conjoined twin joined at the pelvis and they cut him off.

His "father" is named Tywin.

TyWIN

TWIN

:agree: this

He doesn't mention it THAT often in the books, I don't think.

But holy shit, Varys scenes are fucking insufferable in the show. It's mentioned in 99% of his scenes, usually at great length with some sort of crude joke(s) being made. (usually whatever character he's talking about who brings it up, but still)

Kind of makes you feel bad for him, doesn't it? Endless jokes at his expense and there's zero he can do about it. Would love to see him have Dany or Aegon roast someone just for ribbing him about the missing parts. "Is it funny now? Huh, Lord I can still reproduce?"
