Why is Tyrion everybody's favorite?

Even Stark fans seem to like him. This guy plays in one league as Varys, Tywin and LF. I know he is potrayed too white in the show, but even book readers say stuff like: Tyrion is the only cool Lannister or I hope he and Dany become a couple. :p Tell me why?! For example he even planned to kill Dany in his time as Hand.

He is? That's new to me.

He plays in the same league as Varys or LF? Most definitely not, otherwise he wouldn't have spent pretty much the entire series being played by the one or the other.

And he's a traitor, mass murderer, rapist and a couple other morally rather repugnant names. Jaime is morally better, and they deserve to hang from the same branch.

I don't know if he's my favorite, but I like him as a character. Why? Because he's the only "intellect" character who you get their POV. Because he was an interesting foil for Cersei. Because there are many things that make him a sympathetic character. Because he's something of grey character, which makes him more interesting. He's well written and he can be quite funny.

I used to like him and found him comedy gold until his childishness. Really,he started to make jokes saying someone wife is an animal etc. He's like a drunken 12 year old making your mum jokes. He also had that thing in pleasure house which made the reader know he's hit rock bottom. And then the Jorah jokes saying 'even I have a prettier face than you,Mormont' it's just too childish and I barely care about him anymore.

Tyrion is an adventurer who participates some of the most exciting stories that unfold in Ice and Fire. I love reading about him, but as a character he has good and bad points. Considering that he is Lord Tywin's son he could have turned out a lot worse.

I count him amongst my favourites but there are plenty of characters I like more than him. He's funny, witty and clever. And he's actually a good person at heart. I know he does some questionable things but they're all triggered by the horrible treatment he receives from his family. He saves KL and everyone treats him like he's some horrible demon monkey. Then his own family believes he killed Joffrey and tries to have him killed for it. He's one of the better Lannisters.

But on the other hand he does whine a bit too much (understandably I suppose) and he doesn't help himself - he almost encourages his bad reptutation with his big mouth and his pride. And his chapters in ADwD are incredibly dull and long-winded with occasional interesting bits.

He's a very grey character and lots of people like that, people also like humour.

Tyrion is OK. He used to be my favorite Lannister now he's tied for third with Cersei...

He's really not well liked on these forums TBH. There are a few supporters but many of his fans have changed their minds after ADWD.

Still, I will enjoy watching the Tyrion / Jorah actionon the show despite the fact these are

The two most whitewashed characters in TV history... :p

And to think, our very own GRRM wants to be him! :O

"Tyrion might be who I want to be, but Sam is probably closer to who I actually am."

I don't know what's worse, the whitewashing he gets in the show, or the blackwashing he gets around here.

He's complex and beautifully written, with fascinating character flaws. He's also usually placed around the intriguing action, and coupled with his witticisms, his chapters are generally enjoyable to read.

That being said, I strongly dislike him. As a literary character, I can't imagine the story without him, but as for his "person," I think he's loathsome.

He's smart; see his defense of KL. He's funny. He's not a lone wolf with hidden motives like Varys and LF, so he's not operating in their world, not till he kills his dad, anyway. I see him as a relatively modern pov battling its culture, yet a very practical, worldly pov nevertheless. I think he'll make a very good advisor for Dany.

So I like him very much. My favorite Lannister is Jaime, though.

It was his wit and humor that made me like him in the first place and he's been my favorite character since AGoT. Of course, he's also got his downsides - and he's a great grey character.

I can relate to him because of his cleverness and smarts. And intellect. Like him, I'm seldom left speechless.

I hope that his downward spiral came to an end and he'll go up again.

Oh, and welcome to the boards!

Well I think Tyrion being your favorite character & believing Tyrion is a great guy are 2 completely different things.

I thoroughly enjoy Tyrion as a character. Up until he killed Tywin & spiraled into a drunken, self-pity-ing (is that a word?) oblivion his POV's are most entertaining. He is witty & funny. He is the underdog of the 'top dogs' which makes me root for him but has enough power over some things to be able to influence things & makes some very sound & helpful decisions for the realm. He is also a Lannister & does some truly atrocious & repugnant things. He gets treated poorly by his entire family in some form or another but is not above behaving just like them. He is interesting.

He is not the guy I'd pick for my daughter to marry, I wouldn't bring him home for dinner with my mother but I would sit & have some wine with him (provided I was on his good side & had a taste tester drink my wine before me)

Seriously though what's not to enjoy?
