So the Red God (FM worship the Red God ?) demands 3 deaths since Jaqen's threesome didn't die, but why does Arya get to choose who dies ? If Arya is about to die and somebody saves her does she owe them a free kill ?

She saved three from death so she gets to choose 3 to take their place. Its not that complicated.

Yeah but why was Jhaqen moved to owe her that? Was it his personal decision, is it part of the Faceless Men code, is it to make Aryas stay in Harrenhal more interesting? Is it because their lives were spared or because he still had an assignment to carry out? Arent the Faceless Men taught to embrace death? Is Jhaqen a rogue agent?

If Jhaqen is in Oldtown, and he killed Pate, and Pate wasnt the target, are there repercussions? Is he trying to achieve some larger goal in Oldtown, and if so then where does that fall in the FM's purview?

Only death can pay for life. Its a recurring theme. No different for the Faceless Men. It has nothing to do with keeping Arya at Harrenhal or making her time there more interesting. He isn't a travel agent. We haven't been told yet what his true mission is and why he's at the Citadel. There are many theories as to why. Pate was a means to an end. For an important reason, getting someone inside of the Citadel is vital. Was it Jhagen who was on the swaying bridge with Balon Greyjoy the night he died? Was it him who had the drowned crow on his shoulder? (Euron)? The mystery of the FM are part of their intrique. Something we all want to know more about.

How does Jaq determine the point in which he is sure enough that he would have died in that moment if not for another's assistance? For all he knew the cage's frame deteriorates fast enough that he could free himself or biter chews his way out allowing for all's freedom.

What happens if he doesn't offer up the free kills? Is he doomed to die? Does he get fired from his job? Is he forever stuck with the face he last used? How does he keep his hair so thick? What if he miscounted the # of people that would have died?

What if a face has a different skin tone than the rest of his body, wouldn't this look kind of ridiculous?

I NEED ANSWERS!

I don't think that means the faceless men worship the Red God. Arya saved him from burning to death. I think the Red God stuff is just a colloquial term for burning to death. R'hllor followers talk about giving people to the Red God by burning them.

You need answers? Then ask a reasonable, sensible question.

It isn't something the Kindly Man has emphasized yet. Perhaps it is not FM code but rath Jaqan's own belief? Maybe he actually failed at becoming no one and held onto the religion he was raised in.

He also never tells her the people she chooses have to be someone he doesn't know. He just strikes me as a bit off from what we see at the House of B&W

I dont recall another time that a Red God follower mentions owing deaths for saving people from fire

No, that's right.

But Faceless men follow every god of death. In some religion there is only one, in some of them, like R'holl religion, there are two gods, but one is "less" god then the other, mearly a demon followed by darkness. So basically one god who chose who dies and who lives.

Thus, Jaq was just following "all" religion, but named Red god because he was saved from fire.

..I think GRRM was giving an answer that doesn't give future developments away, there...

I don't think he does owe Arya 3 lives ..and by that I mean I don't think he actually thinks he does either.. The FM may honour all gods.. but that doesn't mean they believe in them ,equally. Worshipping Him of Many Faces as the FM do, ultimately, death is inevitable , and it doesn't really matter who dies when.

I'm short of time, so I probably will have to post more later, but I think there's simply a desire to help Arya ,within the limits of his other tasks at hand. E.G. he obviously has time constraints (has to be in Oldtown, or Braavos by x date), he can't take her where she wants to go.
