Whatever happened to....

No, his stuff was simply awful and he didn't come across well. Here is an interview with him http://fantasyhotlist.blogspot.co.uk/2007/06/interview-with-david-bilsborough.html

I just find it interesting to discover what happened to these next coming of Tolkien after they published their novel and it did not live up to expectation.

Oh God, I can't help liking this guy, especially that stuff he says about the Internet. Priceless. Was the book really that bad?

And I had almost managed to forget that I read The Wanderer's Tale -- well, the first third of it anyway; I'd probably read the rest for money, but it'd have to be a pretty respectable chunk of change.

I was fairly interested at the time, since I like quest fantasy and I was young and innocent and bought the hype, and I remember that the second one did indeed come out, yes [though I never actually saw a copy or anything]. The reviews for the first one had been mostly bad, though, because it managed the impossible feat of being almost objectively shitty, so yes, the second one seems to have fallen into a black hole in terms of attention. This is anecdotal of course, but I can't recall seeing a single instance on any fantasy forums or review blogs of anyone in the fan community actually reading it. As I recall the series was a duology, so it did technically get finished with that second book, but yeah, those plans he had for more books? Not a peep since, so far as I know.

Newcomb I never read, so I know less there -- I probably would have fallen into the trap and read the first one but fortunately I started lurking here before I noticed his books existed, and was educated as to their shitness. I believe he got somewhat further than Bilsborough. Six books in his series came out, divided into two trilogies I think. The last one was published in late 2007, according to wiki. Then Del Rey dropped the series, and Newcomb has been unable to secure a new publisher, and there has again been nothing since.
