The show and the book comparison

Do anyone likes the way the show is seperating from the books. Don't get me wrong, season 4 was good, but for myself who read the books, I find myself confuse with all these show created characters like Locke or unnecessary story lines like grey worm and messindea. I know its only ten episodes which is not alot for this adaptation, but the show could do a better job ultilizing the story line that is already set up in the books.

The show is doing some things (like Greyworm and Messindre) for a combination of romance ratings and ethnic diversity in the cast, whilst it is doing other things (like Locke) to simplify the story telling and make it more immediate. I think it just comes with the territory and, all things considered, the show is doing a pretty great job of bringing a complicated fantasy saga to life on tele.

I don't have a favorite between book and show - I can see elements that are better in both formats.

Show Cersie and show Tywin are better than their book counterparts. Show Joffrey was far more engaging then book Joffrey, as is show Margery. Show Blackwater was better choreographed than the book.

Book Dany and book Jon are better realized than the show. Book Renley was a less cliche gay man than show Renley. These are accessibility changes the show makes, which I think undermine the audience's intelligence. But, by the same token, you want something that has a wide popular spread and you have to pander to all targets.

The depth of the world, overall, is far greater in the books. But this is a really hard thing for a show to capture - and would require a massive budget.

Bran going to Bloodraven's cave was far, far, far better in the books.

Since it's already a given that the show will pass the books, my position is that I want the to diverge as much as possible. I want them t invent new characters, kill old ones, change plots, alter characterizations and basically mess with the original story to the point that it's no loger recognizable. :)

The show has diverged increasingly from the books. I liked the majority of the changes in earlier seasons, but this season I felt like most of the added storylines (e.g. at Crasters') were inferior to actual book material, and therefore I disliked them (especially with some good book material omitted), such as the Grey Worm/Missandei romance and killing off characters (most notably Jojen) who are still alive in the books. They also modified some characters like Brienne making them far more cliche than they were in the books.

My thing is why have more show created characters when the book has so many of them. I understand the show runners can't wait for GRRM to finish the books, but give the man some respect and utilize the characters that is presented.
