Does Ser Pounce have a role to play or is he just fluff?

The redoubtable Ser Pounce is an intrepid companion to our good King Tommen, but does he have a significant part to play in future events? Will he battle the black tom, Balerion to protect his king? Or will he become lax and distracted in his duties prowling after Myrish minxes and catamites, bringing more shame upon the lions of Lannister?

Thoughts?

But why would GRRM include Ser Pounce if just to demonstrate Tommen's well-established innocence?

As per Checkov's gun, Ser Pounce must have a greater roll to play. Clearly, when King's Landing is sacked, Tommen will warg into Ser Pounce moments before his own death. He will then attack Faegon and give him a proper scratching.

And then sit the Iron Throne

Ser Pounce is actually Azor Ahai reborn. His claws are Lightbringer(s), which he shall sharpen on his Nissa Nissa, Lady Whiskers. Boots shall be his squire and the one to bring Ser Pounce out of his depression over Lady Whiskers' fate.

When the Wall falls and the Others invade, Ser Pounce shall slay Balerion the Black Tomcat, who is also known as the Great Other.

This will usher in an era of great joy and large amounts of fish for dinner.
