Newsroom Season 3

Lord Hanna

I missed episode two, but feel somewhat obligated to watch this final season after watching the first two, despite the overt preachiness of much of what Sorkin writes. Basically it is only worth watching for Olivia Munn's character.

Ooooh! Loved the first two seasons, but didn't know the final season had started yet. I thought it had been delayed until the end of November.

First two episode are out already, so far it's better than season 2, although it's still early.

I enjoy watching this show. So far this season I'm really liking the Sloan/Don convos and Maggie's train ride subplot. The Neal Sampat stuff is hard to watch, not a fan of Dev Patel.

I think it added a nice little twist.

But yes i mostly watch for Will/Mckenzie and Sloan/Don.

I'm still watching. It's so smug and preachy that it's hard to take seriously but there's good humor in the dialogue. Sloan is still the best character by far and completely stole the show in ep 2.

The drama with Neal seems over-wrought but how could they resist doing their own version of Snowden? The writers seem to be working very hard to make Maggie less obnoxious this season, long after anyone cares. The corporate take-over family feud plotline looks pretty annoying so far but I'm all for having more Rhys and Leona.

I am liking this season a lot more than the first two. Honestly I don't even know why I watched the first two seasons. I wasn't really enjoying it, but I didn't hate it enough to be hatewatching, it was just kind of...there. But I like Neal so I am interested in this melodrama that is going to play out.

"And Don, you walked right past the waffles" Love Sloan haha.

Noticed a couple of people that I'd seen from other shows. Jimmi Simpson was the guy Maggie gave the ipod to (played Gavin in House of Cards) and Mary McCormack as Molly the FBI agent (who played Kate Harper from West Wing).

And the EPA guy was Toby from the office, the guy Maggie was talking too all episode.

I love this show and am sad it's ending. Is it preachy at times? For sure. Quite depressing that this will be the final season.

Can anyone else confirm that there will only be 6 episodes? I might feel more robbed by that if it turns out to be true than when Deadwood was canceled, and that is saying a lot.

I had such high hopes for a show that seemed to go out of it's way to not show people naked or overtly violent for gratuity's sake. Perhaps that contributed to it's end? Maybe not, but maybe so.

Also, a slight confession: I always wanted to be a the person that the Will/Charlie characters represent as a child. Is that weird? :P

Enjoyed episode three, there aren't many shows on television that compel me to a succession of fist-pumps like this one. I was verbally and physically cheering within the first ten minutes of the episode!

As did I. All the build up over how to present the story in a 'watchable and entertaining piece" vs the morality and ethics of hype or 'dumbing down' the stack and numbers and facts, and then the actual scientist pretty much says 'We're fucked.' I thought it was fairly brilliant.

Gah only 3 Episodes left then. Sad times.

I only found out this week that the show is soft-cancelled and will end after this half season. I hope Sloan gets her own spin-off.

Not to be too negative but I could have lived with all the smug preaching but the borrowed glory/macho was too much. When Don and Will acted all heroic as they announced Bin Laden's death it nearly made me sick. And that was on top of Neal punching a monitor to be as tough as the stringer in Cairo, and McKenzie and Jim are automatically tough and good journalists because they were embedded with troops (which is mentioned frequently and apparently qualifies Jim as an EMT).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's only going to be six episodes, so there's only three left.

I liked the scene in episode three where the climate scientist was more or less saying "we're fucked" to McAvoy on the air.

I liked it because even on another show Toby is a fucking wet blanket.

Watch this parody before you dive into this season.

That was a pretty ingenious sketch--a parody that deconstructed Sorkin parodies. I've spent the last hour or so on youtube watching the other sketches mentioned plus a bunch of old Sorkin and West Wing interviews thanks to your harmless little prompt there. Sorkinisims was probably my favorite.

There's only 6 episodes this season?

It looks that way. :/
