The show runners has a lot of materiels from AFFC and ADWD. But they change everything because they want to make a generic show version of the novels instead of doing what they been doing on season 1 & 2 that where good.

Blackfish and the brotherhood has to show up, because what's the point for Roose to mentioned to Walda that he escaped.

I was surprised they left him out of season 4 entirely. We are lead to believe he escaped the red wedding due to his timely bladder

So why not show us anything after? he better be in season 5. We haven't seen much of this character but i love him already.

Thoughts?

Have always liked Clive Russell and was hoping he would not be gone for two seasons.

However The Blackfish's story , as GRRM has written it, just looped in the Riverlands we have no idea where it's going.

I was hoping after Brynden Tully's escape in Feast he would show up in Dance , not with the Brotherhood but leading a modest 'Tully' force to ally with Stannis, he would have every reason to do this, he seems a character who would accept Stannis's out of expediency.

Unlike the book , the show only has Davos as a Stannis captain, in the book there are several. What better commander than to have the Blackfish as one of your captains, and a character already introduced on the show.

Brynden Tully had been built up as strong character in season three.

And now?? I am waiting, this is so very unfinished, there must be more to it. No, It would be a bad decision not to bring him back.

His story has no closure, no meaning, no logic so far. He is not a character like Sandor who had his story, who was great, and where Martin and especially the showmakers might stop when it was at its best.

The Blackfish so far is only a not honoured promise to viewers if the riverrun story or another story to replace it will not follow.

He'll be shelved until it's time for him to influence the plot again. The show effectively led him to the same place he's in the books: escaped and on the lam. What happens later depends on what happens in the books.

I can see two possibilities: if he reappears in Sansa's plotline, chances are we'll see him this season. Otherwise, no.

Not using the character this season I can understand. But he should have been mentioned, and multiple times at that. Show-watchers already complain of plotlines left dangling - Benjen, Alliser Thorne going to King's Landing, etc.

Not to mention Edmure being held hostage and the brotherhood.

With Jamie going to Dorne I think the show will cut the whole story in the Riverlands. It's so strange since the war of five kings is still active there, but I guess sexy sand snakes make better TV.

Also, I bet you the show is going to do a romeo and juliet angle with Trysten and Marcella which is totally point less and a waste of show hours.

This is a series - both in show and books - where things dangle. Things dangle a lot more in the books than in the show. What does Howland Reed know? Who is Jon's mother? Where is Ned's body? Where is Robb's will? Where are the various people that Robb sent to do things? Where is Rickon / why did Rickon go to Skagos? Why was Gendry written out of the story? What happened to Benjen? The books still haven't resolved some of the things dangling from book 1, and each book dangles some new plotlines. An adaptation that didn't leave things dangling would be hugely unfaithful to both the plotlines of the books and GRRM's storytelling style.

While the books have spent some time in the Riverlands after the Red Wedding, very little has happened. Edmure has been a captive the whole time. Walder Frey is basically in charge and in good health. Blackfish has escaped. The BWB is revenge-focused, but hasn't killed anybody important. Jaime added stability to an unstable, but static, situation. My guess is that stuff will actually happen in the Riverlands in book 6, and that is when the show will go back to the Riverlands. Blackfish and the BWB will land some real blows. Walder Frey will probably die. Jaime and Brienne will get to some kind of resolution with LS.

If only it was that the show left them dangling and then returned to them later. No, it seems the show just abandons these things. The books will answer every cliffhanger, the show, doubtful. Balon Greyjoy is still alive, after all.

We will hear of or see Balon's death when it becomes important. Just having Varys mention that Balon died through mysterious circumstances at a small council meeting isn't useful when there would be no further mention of the situation throughout the rest of the season.

Eh, I think the first seasons (especially 2) tried to do the whole "periodically check up on everyone" shtick. It didn't work out, predictably. You move a plotline forward when there is something in it to move it forward.

ADWD was also similary accused of being all setup, no payoff, and I agree with that assessment.

lol

and not to mention there's still a certain someone rowing a small boat on the high seas...

Overall though he'll make a comeback when they want to move decisively forward with the Riverlands/Tully arc which makes sense TV wise, he'll probably be involved with the BwB and get mixed up in Briennes storyline, possibly Jaimies if he goes throught he Riverlands in season 6 after coming back from Dorne in season 5 and I wouldn't be surprised if he acts as a Vale/Riverlands link in Sansa's arc

I like him in the books and show, but tbh he hasn't done much in the books, escaped RW was on the run, escaped Riverrun before it was handed over and...is on the run. In the show we can go by the farmer dialogue with Hound/Arya that that Riverrun is in Frey hands and they are ruling over the Riverlands

Will they though? Seems like a pretty big assumption to make considering how much GRRM's left dangling and how little space he has left.

I have heard others mention him taking over for LS, which would be great, but I could also see him taking a role in Winterfell as part of the GNC instead of Dustin and Manderly. I think it would be logical to assume that he is familiar with it, having likely visited a few times (Ned and Cat's wedding, etc). I think the first idea is way more plausible, but who knows. I do hope he makes an appearance at some point. The viewers need to be reminded of who he is.
