Ulthosian Stark
Anyone else in WNY? Also getting buried alive? There's 5 feet of snow at my house, got stuck in a car for 12 hours Monday and now there's a state of emergency/driving ban/"holy shit here comes the national guard" situation going on.I've been drinking whiskey and wine liberally between bouts of trying to keep the snow low so my buddy with a plow can even get to the driveway, I cannot see any of the cars in my own driveway, nor the neighbors. All buried. All of yesterday I didn't see a single plow down the main road I live off of, 5 feet of snow on a 4 lane throughway. 6 people have died from being buried alive in their cars. I was lucky I made it home at all
Fragile Bird
I was wondering if there were any people from the Buffalo area around. My deepest sympathies. It's the flooding you need to worry about now. It will be above zero on Friday, then up to 45 on the weekend and warm all week. If you can. try pulling snow off your roof, before it starts melting and then freezing overnight. I think people are going to have to seriously worry about roofs collapsing. :(
DanteGabriel
Jesus. Good luck to you and the others out there, US. This story terrifies me.
1918me
Yeah, I just saw this on my news feed before reading your post. That really sucks; you have my sympathies.
sj4iy
That sucks. We had a bad snow like that a few years ago here in Western PA (about 3-4 feet of snow in one day), and we were buried for days. Luckily, we have gas heating and not electric, so we were never in trouble. Good luck.
maarsen
Lake effect snow sucks. I grew up in the snow belt of Ontario. I never had it that bad though. Hope it all works out for you.
Fragile Bird
Amazing pictures out of Buffalo. There's a night shot showing the snow rolling off the lake, looking like a cold version of a dust storm rolling into town. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/11/19/buffalo-snow-photos-weather-storm-pictures_n_6186604.html
Ulthosian Stark
Thanks guys its getting rough, and the snow is STILL falling. Not as bad as what weve had so far but its supposed to last all night. Hell at least I'm getting a good arm workout with the shoveling etc.Our electricity hasn't gone out at all thank god, we do also have gas heating so we're all set on that front. This might sound bad, but I'm worried about my *fish* more then anything!! Lol I have a 120 gallon tank with fish ranging from 5 inch to a foot and a half (largest by bichirs is about 16 inches) and they eat a lot, I'm almost out of food for them now haha. Luckily the main group of fish, the bichirs, are more like crocodiles or gators then fish and can survive months without food. My peacock bass is looking skinny though its bugging the hell out of me.I consider myself lucky I decided to live at home till I can live properly alone, most of my friends who've moved out are running out of food already and its only 3 days in.I'm awfully pissed about missing work though, 2 shifts down on my paycheck
Frog Eater
As FB said above, keep an eye on how much weight accumulates on your roof, you might have to go up and clear some snow off.
Inigima
Use the time you're stuck in your house to edit the thread title to something descriptive. Kidding. Okay, no, I'm not kidding, but good luck and stay safe.

Shryke
Growing up in Toronto, you spend winters laughing at Upstate New York and their snow cause it ends up all over our local american stations. "Toronto area got 7cm today. Across the lake Buffalo is now a dystopian hellscape ruled by marauding bands of Yetis while the human population scrapes together a semblance of civilization in a network of tunnels beneath the half a mile of snow and ice." N/A
Hang on, there'll still be football right ? Watching kyle Orton suck in the snow would be memorable .Actually I should check I don't even know if buffalo are at home or on the road .
Ormond
Just where in the Buffalo area do you live? It's obviously much worse on the south side of the city than the north, as per usual. Though I moved away decades ago, I spent my childhood in North Tonawanda and though we sure got a lot of snow there I know it was nothing compared to what southern suburbs like Hamburg and Orchard Park got. Good luck to you and your fish! :)
Jslay427
It's crazy like 45 min from Buffalo has like zero snow.
DreamSongs
Ouch...do you have a backup generator so you can keep the heater in tank going if the power goes out?
Xray the Enforcer
6 people have died from being buried alive in their cars. I was lucky I made it home at all Link, please? Because I've seen seven reported deaths, five from heart attacks, one from a car crash, and one from some dude in his car. In any case, stay safe and good luck. Fat Mac
I'm in Rochester, and oddly enough we're not getting much. I know Buffalo gets a lot of snow in the early winter, but this is ridiculous. Stay warm and safe though!
Larry of the Lawn
ULthosian, can you feed your predators mice? They're pretty easy to come by even inheavy snow if you have traps: just set inside or dig down through the snow against the foundation of your house. We fed my brothers large mouth bass and snapping turtles like this in 2011 when the whole eastern half of CT shutdown for two weeks.
wolverine
It is cold here in Minnesota, but have certainly never had to deal with shit like that. Also, we are pretty well prepared to deal with temps as low as -60 and lots of snow. I don't know what you can do to prepare for 5 feet. Sounds like it could be pretty rough.
