Season 2 of the UK version will pick up where season 1 left off in 2013. The new trailer, which is the third that ITV has released, is the first to include any talking. Miller’s (Colman) voice-over asks, “What do I do now?” while a sweeping camera shot shows her and Hardy (Tennant) over-looking the sea. The promo campaign for the new season has been based around the slogan, The End is Where it Begins.

Broadchurch Season 2 OFFICIAL Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC2t9zpuxog

ITVs award winning drama Broadchurch returns for a brand new series Monday 5th January. David Tenant and Olivia Colman reprise their roles as Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller. It's the same town but will there be new secrets?

New cast members include Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Eve Myles and James D’Arcy. One of the big questions surrounding the series has been how creator/writer Chris Chibnall and crew would advance the story in the 2nd season, but we do know it picks up where the story left off in 2013 — and the trailer provides more of a hint about what’s to come.

So, I've seen Broadchurch on my Netflix the past week or so and have contemplated watching. But.... I've already watched the entire season of Gracepoint, which is basically the American version of the show, right down to David Tennant. Has anyone else watched both? Do they differ much?

To a large extent, Gracepoint was practically a shot-for-shot remake of Broadchurch (especially the first couple episodes), but somehow managed to be a much worse show. Tennant and Colman actually have chemistry which Tennant and Gunn never managed. The only real differences are Tennant's daughter never showed up in Broadchurch and the circumstances of the murder were ever so slightly different:

Tommy wasn't involved in Broadchurch, which felt like a major cop out after being told the ending would be different. I mean it was, but just barely.

Other than that, basically the same show, but Broadchurch is significantly better.

Thanks Matt. I may give Broadchurch season 1 a watch then, but I don't think I'll put a high priority on it.

Sounds like I should be able to just start with season 2 and not be too lost? Might even make for a fun game trying to tell which character is which.

We just binged this a week ago via Netflix and were flattened by it. Thank god for subtitles though. Now we are marching through Hinterland and are quite pleased. Not quite the gut-punch that Broadchurch was but still, very high quality TV. I suppose we'll try The Fall next. Any others we should try?
