Fragile Bird
I was looking at a story in the New York Times when I saw they did a feature in the paper with the help of Google researchers on the most searched recipes in every state (other than turkey), and then they created a map and a state-by-state of the top locally searched recipes, with links. There are so many things I have never heard of.... I could use this page to find unusual dishes to put together for Sunday dinner for the next three years! Four layer delight, anyone? A crust of shortbread, a layer of Cool Whip mixed with cream cheese, topped with chocolate pudding, topped with Cool Whip! My stomach hurts just reading that, Arkansas... Or frog eye salad. Green rice casserole. Funeral potatoes. What's your special Thanksgiving dish? (And I'm sure this topic has been done before, but it's fun to revisit it :) )
deleted01
No Thanksgiving - I had pasta today - but pigs in blankets is my ultimate Christmas dish. Nothing sweeter than pig wrapped in pig.

peterbound
I make a dish I like to call, 'The Devil's Penis', which is actually known as 'Williamsburg Bread'. come to find out it is also very similar to the 'sopapilla cheesecake' that was searched for in OK. I should know what the hell a sopapilla cheesecake is growing up in Arizona. I learned the recipe from a girl while stationed in the UK. Her husband was a fire fighter I was working with. I also make bacon wrapped date that go over well.
wolverine
Green bean casserole or swiss green beans seem to be a staple around here. Not sure that is true of the rest of the country.
Arataniello
Christmas pudding. Suet, fruit, breadcrumbs, all the dried fruits you can think of, Christmas spices. Steamed for hours when first prepared, stored for a month or longer, then steamed for hours before eating. Anything with mincemeat in it that relates to Christmas. Working with a bunch of Germans, this can involve endless repeated discussions of what "mincemeat" actually is - they find it hard to understand that there is NO MEAT in sweet mincemeat. Mince pies, Ecclefechan tarts, mincemeat and apple jalousie. Bread sauce. I seem to be the only person that appreciates it nowadays. Onion and clove flavored goodness to go with the turkey.
