Black Friday Bargain Successes

Ok, we keep seeing the news about Black Friday. Did you go out and shop? What fantastic deal did you find?

I went online yesterday and saw National Geographic has a 20% off everything sale, so I bought their DNA kit, something I had read about in the summer. Testing will show me my roots. Deep roots. :) And they will add the results to the database they are building showing the movement of peoples on the planet.

ETA: Oh, and I will buy my Worldcon membership.

I ordered some t-shirts online with a 50% discount.

Did the same last year and loved both the t-shirts and the fact we got double our order. :D

A bunch of us ordered quite a few t-shirts, there was some mix-up with shipping and our t-shirts didn't get here in time they were supposed to.

After a friend contacted them, they apologized and sent our order out again.

As a result, we got the same t-shirts twice and we swapped our extra t-shirts among ourselves so I ended up with 4 t-shirts for 20$ which is always cool.

EDIT:

I didn't trample anyone, and no one trampled me.

Does that count?

I won't go out shopping today unless we are in dire need of diapers or something else essential.

I did some online shopping to buy a Christmas dress for my daughter that was marked down 50% yesterday, but otherwise- there's nothing else I feel compelled to buy right now. Most of our Christmas shopping is done (I bought the kids new bikes already), and all I have left is to crochet/knit some presents for other people.

Only thing worse than shopping on Black Friday is working retail on Black Friday.

Which I will be doing.

I will not return without the blood of the customer on my chin.

I worked at Wal-Mart one year on Black Friday. Worst day of my life.

You have my sympathy.

Watching the news this morning they had a guy at some mall interviewing passing black friday shoppers. One group in particular, obviously seasoned veterans, all women, all in matching t-shirts, and all carrying their booty from recently looted stores, gave the best interview. When speaking to the matriarch of the clan the woman related their past successes, and then said something about, "even having brought some grandsons along one time," before turning to someone off camera and asking, "remember them?" For all the world as if those two fallen soldiers were no long with us, having lost their lives in the campaigns of Black Fridays past.

I'm not American and when I look on tv relations and videos from it I start to think that some people who participate in Black Friday are quite strange. When I saw to guys laying on shop's floor and fighting for TV ( they almost destroyed it)I couldn't stop laughting ;)

And Americans say that polish customs are strange :) ?

This is the first year Black Friday really kicked off in the UK. Asda and Tesco were mental. Thankfully, I decided to stay at home, and managed to get a bloody good deal online. Buy one get one free at Glasses Direct, with an extra 50% off.

Yes, last year was a bit flat but this year it was mental.. I was watching the news earlier, people absolutely shoving and beating each other to get into asda! And people generally just going absolutely bonkers. Fighting over TV's and whatnot. *shakes head* they had to get extra police in supermarkets and all, and arrests were made.

I prefer the Boxing Day sales, for those of you who don't know, it's like Black Friday but without people trying to murder each other for bargains. Much more civil for the most part, from what I remember (last one I went to was two years ago, it was pretty good actually)

I tried to go on tesco direct to look for a can opener for my mother, just wanted to see what the price was, if it had changed. There was a waiting line to get onto the website and I didn't get on after half an hour so I was like fuck it I'll go to the store tomorrow when things calm down a little

Staying home, not putting on pants, and searching for deals online. This, plus some hot coffee and leftover Thanksgiving food = an especially nice Black Friday.

I worked retail on Black Friday years ago and it... honestly wasn't that bad. I kind of enjoyed getting home from work at 2 pm knowing I'd just put in a full 8 hour workday. I worked back in the warehouse so customer interaction was more limited than working the floor so maybe that had something to do with it. I sure as hell wouldn't want to do that everyday though.
