Bronn & Shae

Hi!

I haven't read the books but I have checked a lot of theories and a while back I read one about Shae working for the Martells. I don't have a link for thi, but it was based on the Martell masterplan theory.

While I believe there is a lot of problems with that one it got me thinking. Shae did turn on Tyrion pretty fast.

And then I was thinking that Bronn both found Shae, and were supposed to send her off on a ship before Tyrions trial. He came back and stated she was gone, but she wasn't.

So IF Shae has been paid by someone from the start. Isn't quite close to conclude that Bronn is paid by the same person. He did become quite rich very quickly, besides he has no problem admitting his lack of honor.

As I said, I haven't read the books so I could be way out there. But I thought some of you could start theorizing.

So is there something to this at all? And if so, who pays them?

The Tyrells?

The Martells?

Littlefinger?

Varys?

Tywin?

In my opinion Tywin seems the most probable, since the only thing they've seem to have done is gain Tyrions trust and cause his fall. Besides Tywin has done this to Tyrion before. And Shae was found in Tywins bed after all.

Tyrion was paying Shae to give him the GFE experience and she did.

He fooled himself into thinking it was real even though she was just doing what he paid her for. Then Tyrion fell from grace and she fell in the clutch of Cersei, who is willing to hand over women to be experimented on by Qyburn, and Tywin, who is willing to have a 13 year old girl gang raped to teach his son a lesson. And she's supposed to tell these guys 'Go fuck yourself, I will stay loyal to my john!'. Be serious.

I was always very disappointed in Tyrion for strangling Shae. Yeah, he was never the nicest of guy, but that crossed the 'rogue hero' line quite a bit compared to anything he did before. Of course, at the time he was shell shocked by Jaime's revelations, but still, get over yourself dude. Makes it much harder to root for the guy.

Anyway, I think she was just what she appeared to be; a whore trying to get by in the world.

Personally I think Shae was working for Varys, some of those Tyrion chapters in storm are too suspect. Bronn I think was just after money

Not everyone can work for Varys. Bronn, who Tyrion randomly met on the road, randomly dragged Shae from some lesser lord tent. There is a limit to how much you can predict so she was surely no one's agent at the start.

Someone might have tried to recruit her afterward, I guess, but not every random people picked off the street has the capacity to be a double agent! It takes talent and ideally training. I don't see it.

I agree. She’s not a good person by any means, but she didn’t owe Tyrion anything.

She was clearly materialist in the way people who grew up poor and then get a sudden taste of luxury can be. Beyond that, we know almost nothing of her. She wore the mask Tyrion paid her to wear and we never get to truly know her since she moslty exist to the reader only through his eyes.

So I pose this question. Why are you posting in a forum about a complex book series?

For the same reason you ask a question about me in a thread about Bronn & Shea. I wanted an answer from the most well informed, reliable and direct source I could think of.

Bronn in the Text is different from Bronn in the show.

Shae in the Text is different from Shae in the show.

As close as you want to portray them, they are different. Just as every character is different.

The show and the books are going in a different direction...they have been since episode one. Subtle at first, but they have been.

Exactly. That's the point. I aöready know how they are in the show. And asking here will tell me if there's something more, or something less to my thoughts.

I'm not going to discuss my reasons any further. I've gotten what I came here for and so I shall take my leave.

He's right with that analysis. Season one the differences were slight mostly but the gap has widened considerably with each new episode. At this point they're almost two different stories completely. I've already decided to quit the show until after all the books come out. I just haven't decided if I'll watch this season before my hiatus or not.

@Ser Cold Fingers: way to be welcoming to newcomers....I'm sure you will not drive them away by being confrontational or by pretending that reading these books somehow makes you smarter than the average person or is a condition for getting involved in a discussion about the characters. The guy asked a simple question and you already have managed to drive him away. Well done. This totally does not confirm my suspicion that writing on this forum exposes people to rude and hostile comments from long-time members who think they know so much more than other people.

God Bless and have a Merry Christmas!
