Who is Varys for?

I know this is a question that has been talked to death but I can't make up my mind. All I've decided is that Varys isn't just working for Vary's. He does everything with such utter care and strategy, To me it seems like there's more on the line for him than just power or greed or what have you. Some have said children of the forest, some have said the Targs, some have said the Blackfyres, but what do you guys think?

My Crackpot is that his castration because he was sold to a mage has given him a strong sense of justice for the common folk. He stole goods and later info from wealthy folk when he was young and he was quite effective as master of whispers to Aerys. He did his job quite well and on the eve of the destruction of the Royal line he realized he had an opportunity to save his liege and mold him into the Ideal ruler.

I'm pretty sure he is with the blackfyre's/himself.
I don't see him as the kind of person who cares about the smallfolk, and as much as I like Aegon, I can't really support him until Varys is dead.

If he cared about the realm, he'd have let Kevan fix stuff, instead of murdering him. I really don't like Varys or Illyrio, but I don't see many people sharing that opinion. Can anyone explain why people support them/like them? I don't find them morally correct, or at all engaging. (Not trying to cause offence, just wondering.)

Aegon Targaryen, firstborn son of Rhaegar, Prince of Dragonstone, by Princess Elia of Dorne soon to be Aegon, the Sixth of His Name, King of Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. ...

Or aso he and Illyrio would have us believe. Blood red on top. Black rot beneath.

Varys's motives are far from clear, but him supporting the Children of the Forest is on the face of it ridiculous. There's no evidence that he's even heard of them, much less is working for them.

If anyone can point out anyplace in the books where he is even remotely connected with them I'd like to see it. Otherwise it's an asspull of astounding proportions.

varys is working for the great other, AKA littlefinger and they are working to rebuild the second wall that they built after humans stole their first wall because the others only made it to stop themselves and not their ancient enemy. I have no proof but you cant prove me wrong so it must be right it is known

Seems to me he would've been more helpful to Ned Stark and tried to influence events on Robb's behalf later on if he was a devotee of the old gods.

I believe this as well. What I'm still trying to figure out is Illyrio's role in this. While I can rationalize (to an extent) Varys' reasons, I can't Illyrio's at all. Except greed - but his motivations have to be more than becoming Master of Coins in Westeros. (Ref: According to Illyrio in ADoD, Viserys had promised Illyrio a position as Master of Coins when he returned to Westeros.)

Illyrio, despite his wealth and power still lives somewhat under the yolk of the Pentos rulers. By backing his teenage friend, the friend that helped him become incredibly wealthy, he has a chance to truly rise to the top. He still will have all of his wealth in Pentos but he will also have the wealth of the Iron throne as well. That is very appealing.
