Pecnut
Wasn't Rhaegar considered one the best fighters alongside Arthur Dayne and Barristan Selmy? He managed to defeat them both at the Tourney of Harrenhal, so how did Robert manage to kill Rhaegar one on one?

Pikachu101
Just because he's a skilled jouster doesn't mean he can't be beaten in an actual battle. Humble Maester
I think Robert hit Rhaegar with a warhammer. That can prove fatal.
Victarion Chainbreaker
A giant fucking warhammer caved in his chest. In medieval warfare, swords (and other slicing weapons) were not very good against plate armour. One needed a a blunt force weapon, such as a mace, morningstar, or warhammer, to inflict damage through plate armour. Robert came prepared. JonCon's Red Beard
To be fair, Jaime is also a good jouster in books and he has been dismounted few times. And he was captured. No one is invincible. Some lucky bastard could have also killed Robert one day.
