A renowned warrior from a powerful family, he is awarded the Lordship of Brightwater Keep, a major house in it's own right. Westeros seems to average one war per generation. If I were the 3rd son of a noble house, even a minor one, I would (with my father's permission) enter the service of a major lord, perform my duties with honor, and be patient.
