2015 Healthy Eating Challenge

Yep, that time of year again. I've actually been getting a kick out of going back and re reading all of the old threads that I've started in regards to this. Seeing the arguments, the changes, and the awesome debates that people were able to fire up.

Anyways, I'm going to skip the 'Paleo only' challenge, as that seems to get people's goat, but I do want to try and motivate folks to start off healthy in the new year, and maybe find a way the help stay accountable. We can still share recipes, ideas about working out, and dieting tips. Things that have worked for you may work for others in the past.

So for me, I'm going to start another strength cycle. Now that my AFPT is over with, I can focus on strength again for the next few months. I'm also going to try some carb cycling to help accomplish some composition changes. Please let others here know what you are thinking about doing. I'll link some of the old threads for ideas about Paleo, or eating healthy in general.

Enjoy, keep it positive, and try and stay healthy.

Hope people jump in.

I've got bunch of skiing and snowshoeing coming up so I'm trying to get into better shape. I'm reducing alcohol intake, doing an extra 30 min cardio every day, and trying to eat more veggies and fewer starches (not so easy when your SO is a bagelmaven).

So basically ill be eating tons of sweet potatoes, chicken, eggs, and assorted veggies. Made about a gallon of kimchi last night. I've been on antibiotics twice for Lyme disease in the last 6 months so I'm trying to get my gut healthy again.

I'm starting the vegan 30-day challenge tomorrow. (Well, I'm going to try the 90 day challenge, but we'll see how the first 30 go.) It will be low-sugar, low-grain as well.

Well, not a big fan of the vegan stuff, but good luck. I'm sure it's going to be tough. let us know how it goes, i'm especially curious about recovery and energy levels. If you are going to stay active, please share that info if you remember to gather it.

peterbound - I forget what I said at the last iteration of this thread, but I have lost like 25 lbs give-or-take in the last year. It feels good. Gotten a bit more cut and, most importantly, feeling better.

I've kept the sugars and the starchier carbs and booze down while focusing on vegetables and nuts and whatnot. And I've not worried too much about meat whether eating a lot or trying to avoid it either. It's worked well. Feeling quite solid overall. On one random note, I've developed a newfound love for cottage cheese. Plain is good and spread on toast is good. :)

Holy shit! 25 pds is a helluva an achievement. Well done!

Congrats! I know how much work that takes

Lyme Disease?! Yoikes! That's pretty debilitating, isn't it?

It can be. I was really lucky and caught it early beore any of the nasty symptoms appeared. But the treatment is 30 days doxcycline each time and I had it twice since this summer. A friend of mine got it and didn't know it until half his face was paralyzed.

Unfortunately the stuff is everywhere in southern New England and upstate NY these days. I'm also hoping the kimchi will make me stinky enough to be unappetizing to ticks.

Wow. :grouphug: to you guys. How was it diagnosed so quickly? I've heard that it's often missed or misdiagnosed.Thank goodness you guys had good doctors.

Mine was missed. I got the bite in late Oct. last year. I got diagnosed in early June.

I found and removed the deertick and then had the rash. They dont even test here if you have both.

The weird part was that the most recent time the tick was on my arm but the rash showed up at the original bite near my navel.

I've had it twice. Didn't find a tick either time, but I had the tell-tale bullseye (and the complete garbage feeling). They didn't bother testing me, either. Getting the bullseye, and knowing what it is, seems like the most important part to not getting the really horrible problems of untreated Lyme.

So for the past four years I've only eaten one meal a day. Whenever someone new finds out about this they always tell me that it can't be healthy and that I should eat the recommended three meals a day. I always thought it was strange that people would call this "unhealthy" considering I'm 5'5" I only weigh 126 lbs and am in pretty good physical shape. Actually, I've always thought it was a pretty good diet since it cut out two meals worth of calories that I obviously don't need to survive since I haven't died yet. Does anyone else have a diet like this?

I don't know why my energy levels would be down. So far so good! This week has been me easing back into working out after being a slacker for a couple of months, but various aerobic exercises have been good. Next week I'll add back in weight training.

One week in to my new diet and more aerobic exercise routine. So far so good. Diet is basically low carb, high protein, 12-1500 calorie diet. My fiance feels like she's starving, but I'm doing ok on it. I think it's because she's not drinking enough water. Trying to trim down 10 lbs in the next 6 weeks before I go on vacation, then trim off another 10 lbs before summer.
