Chapter 53 - Bran IV - S1E8
Commentary/Summary
Rob is preparing to go to war. He has called his bannerman , the men who have sworn themselves to Winterfell and the Starks, and plans to march south with them. Karstarks are just arriving but throughout the week he has had many different houses walk through those gates and it is getting a it crowded which means it will be time for them to be leavening. Bean feels pretty isolated due to Robb keeping him nearby after the incident in the woods. Brandy is feeling very isolated in there is a lot of self hate. He feels just useless, and even more useless than his younger brother Rickon could at least kick to defend himself. There are times where he seems to almost forget he is a cripple and he is having a good time but the world seems to keep sending him things that remind him that he is a cripple. He learns how to ride a horse and than he is taken hostage. The doom and gloom of Bran Stark continues my friends and it really stinks. We some moments later when he is out and about and people stare and mocks don't just kills him. But serious big points to Bran, he knows that if he stays in his room he won't be mocked but he also won't be able to live his life the way he wants to. Go you Bran!
So Bran is riding up on Hodor in his little basket and he is looking out over all these soldiers and he asks Master Luwin how many of them are Knights. We get a little insightful Luwin character here. He responds to Bran with impatience in his voice. He might have just answered this question before or just had a rough day but I think it is because of how Luwin views Knights. He tells them that Knights are only made by being blessed with the seven oils in a Sept, which means that they have to worship the new Gods. Most men in the North worship the old Gods so there are only a few in the company that have been set apart as Knights. Since Luwin has been in the North for most of his life (I'm assuming) than we know that he hasn't had much experience with Knights and he might just see no difference between Knights and the men if the North. Bran on the other hand sees Knights as these amazing people who are stronger, faster, and ten times the man than any regular warrior and Luwin doesn't want him to have this notion in his head. So I just read the last paragraph and he says it in the sense that he has answered the question multiple times and he is probably just fed up with it. I like my answer better though.
Bran and Hodor head off to the Godswood which has turned into a place of peace and solace for Bran. Bran and Ned share this place and I feel it is also where he connects with his father the most. We get a lot of memories here, first one being about Rickon. Poor Rickon... seriously! Okay this kid is three years old and absolutely everyone is leaving him. Mom, dad, brothers, sisters, and now he only has Bran. Rickon has been lashing out a lot because of this. Him and Shaggydog have hidden in the crypts and when they came to find him Rickon goes all bat shit crazy on them and Shaggydog tears out a chunk out of their leg. Rickon is just mad at the world and it is rough on a three year old. I don't really know how much of him we will see in this series because he is so young that he might not turn into a full grown character by the end of the series, though that is for GRRM to decide, but I feel like with all these traumatic experiences that he might be a pretty dark character in the end. I have mentally prepared myself for certain characters to turn 'evil' and I just get a feeling Rickon might be one, but he might just turn into a troubled kid.
With Robb calling in all of his banner men he has had plenty of their leaders mock and not trust him because of Robb's age. Lots of them try and get more land out of him or bully him out of leadership so they can lead. One of them was Greatjon who had a problem with Robb and refused to take orders from someone so green. Robb basically says that they will defeat the Lannisters without you and come back for Greatjon and take his castle from him. Greatjon pulls out his sword but with a casual whisper Grey Wind pounces and bites off a few of Greatjon's fingers. Must be one of those dude things where you respect someone who can take you down in a fight cause Greatjon basically turns into Robb'ss right hand man and becomes one of his most loyal men. Robb later tells Bran that he was scared out of his mind when Greatjon pulled his sword out. Robb has two faces, the regular boy him and Lord Robb. Curious to see if these two personalites will clash and how long he can keep up this act. We shall see.
We than get this pretty foreboding conversation between him and Osha with a interruption from a naked Hodor. Bran is praying for Robb and his family that they will return home safely and Osha comes up and starts talking about how the Gods answer prayers. Bran says he hears nothing but the win, and Osha tells him that it is the Gods who send the win. And than she gets super depress sounding and says that Robb will get no help from the Old Gods as he goes South. While this is pretty depressing it is kind of true. Brandon and Rickard Stark went South and never returned and as we read the books we know that most of the Starks will never come home. Now if we do look at this in sense that it is because the Old God's influence doesn't go south than it iis pretty foreboding to believe in them. It could just be the lack of believer n the old Gods. They used to be the main religion, there were Heart Tree's all over Westeros and when the new God's came rolling from The Neck Down seemed to denounce the Old and get in with the new, like a fresh pair of jeans. The religious culture in the world is extremely interesting. While you have the Lord of Light fanatics you mainly have people who are very tolerant if you believe in either of the Gods, and it seems most of them believe in both. It is pretty mind boggling to me.
Book Owns
+2 to Bran for not being afraid of others.
I apologize that my owns have been kind of lacking lately. Since we have gotten to know the characters so much not a lot of actions change how we feel about them. I'm going to try for the next couple chapters to just hand them out to more people, not just the main characters. while I won't be keeping a tally of all the characters I think it will be fun to just have more points to give out.
Book Vs Show
We actually get the scene where Robb receives Sansa's letter and it is pretty dang good. Rob is in some disbelief but he agrees to go to Kings Landing... just not alone. So Robb tells Maester Luwin to call the banners, all of them, and Maester Luwin has this look that says 'Oh ya... this is gona be good'. Than we get a really cool scene where we actually see the ravens being sent out. Not only can Maester Luwin write really fast but fetch that is a lot of crows. This scene shows us that the shit is going to hit the fan and it is going to get intense.
Show Owns
+1 to Robb for his 'Now he wants his ass kissed' line
+1 to Maester Luwin for writing so fast
+ 1 to Bran for 'Watch over Theon... I suppose'

Chapter 54 - Daenerys VI - S1 E7
Commentary/Summary
Start off with some after sex talk of taking over the world in classic Dany fashion. Get Drogo all relaxed and than ask 'honey how much do you love me? I want the Iron Throne'. This is interesting to see how Dany has taken up this mantle of wanting to take Westeros. Does she truly want to be the Queen of the West? She could feel as if she wants to take back what she never had. Maybe she feel obligated to finish what Viserys started? Is Dany simply looking for a home of her own and Westeros is where she feels connected to something? Feels a grudge against Robert and wants her revenge? This one I'm pretty sure was George R. R. Martin's original plan, for Dany to be more of a vengeful person but I feel he softened her up a little bit. So Dany is trying to convince her hubby that they need to sail across the Narrow Sea and take Westeros but he ain't having non of that. Basically he is like 'look girl, that crazy salty water just ain't a good thing. So sorry babe but I'm gonna go hunting and I don't wanna talk about it any more. Love ya Boo'. While Dany is upset about this she is determined to have him see reason.
So she calls in... you guessed it! President of the friend zone Ser Jorah Mormont. I'm telling you this guy is one of the most loyal people in this book I absolutely love him. One of my favorite secondary characters ever. Dany says 'hey you need to convince him to get on a boat; and Jorah is like 'Just be patient. The Dothraki do what they want to do when they want to do it'. So to take her mind off of things Jorah suggest that they head to the markets which have just been recently filled with brand new stores as the caravans have just come into town. Usually Dothraki women ride on a horse for as long as they possibly can to show their strength. With her hubby gone though she is totally going to take the luxury taxi to the market.
On her way to the market we see all these merchants selling all kinds of merchandise and Dany makes a note that one of the shops is guarded by a eunuch. I'm curious as to how she knows that. I mean are they marked in some way or do they just have that look about them? When they arrive Jorah heads off to check the mail and Dany offers to come along but Jorah brushes her off. Now this is the first time that Jorah has denied her comoany so you know something has gotta be up. So Dany heads off to the market with a couple of her friends and they find a place that seels these amazing sausages. They buy a few and eat some, find out its horse meat, and giggle. The word giggle occurs a good amount in this chapter, at least from what I can remember and it honestly keeps us in mind that Dany is...14 I believe, and still a young girl. She has done so many 'adult' things that we have forgotten that but she is just a young immature girl at times.
As there walking along a wine seller calls out to them to come and taste some of his most vintage wine. As they got to talking Dany spoke to him in Valyrian and it made this guy curious. One of Dany's hand maidens than announces her as who she is the and the wine seller is in awe of her. He offers her caskets of the finest wine in the world and Dany graciously accepts. Before they open it up Jorah shows up and demnds that the wine be opened. This scene is written so good because we feel the pressure and all the eyes on us as if we are the wine merchant. Jorah asks him to open the casket, than pour it, than drink it. Crowds start to gather and all eyes are on this little wine merchant. than he bolts for it but doesn't get to far. Jorah received a letter from Magister Illyrip warning Dany that Robert Baratheon has sent assassins to kill her and put a bounty on her head. While this explains why Jorah would be on alert I still wonder why Jorah suspected the wine guy. Is it just one him being careful or was something else that raised the suspicion.
We have a big moment here the foreshadows events to come. When Dany hears about the bounty she asks who is it on. Jorah tells her it is for Viserys her and her baby. Now two big things. First! This is actually a clue as to Jorah's loyalties. How did Robert know that Dany was pregnant? Someone must have informed him. And second, when it is mentioned that her child has a bounty her first thought doesn't go to her baby but goes to her dragon eggs which truly shows us how much loves her dragons over her son... well... maybe not but the dragons will be a more important part. So she goes in and messes with the dragon eggs for a while. Than she tells Drogo what happened and he is pretty ticked off. He than gives a pretty intnese speech and they are officially going to Westeros, how exciting!
Book Owns
+1 to Drogo, A good speech than all of a sudden 'I will rape their women!'
+1 to Jorah for some intense detective skills.
+1 to dany for standing for her goals and her destiny. She could easily just let it be and live in with Kahl Drogo the rest of her life but show knows something has to be done in Westeros.
Favorite Character: Jorah. He really ssaved Dany's life and did with such suaveness that I can't even handle it.
Book Vs Show
Just a quick note. So I'm reading storm of Swords at the moment and I keep forgetting that certain things haven't happened. Ser Jorah just made a comment about how dragons haven't been seen in a while and it wigged me out because 'they have cause they are... oh... hasn't happened yet'. So one big thing they added in was the scene of Jorah going to get his letter. He finds this kid and gives him greetings from The Spider 'Varys'. Ser Jorah has recieved a royal pardon and can go home. Now why? I think that they added this in to truly show us how loya Jorah is to Dany. Even in this next scene, he knows that the wine is a poisoned and if Dany dies than he can be free to go. But he still saves her. The thing this changes is how Jorah knew that the wine seller had poisoned the wine. was it just a feeling? Did Jorah just take a guess because the wineseller was so willing at one point? Only note I have for Drogo's scene is holy crap, one of the most epic speeches ever done! very impressed

Good point. I always thought during her AGOT chapters that she seems to be looking for a new home, but since she seemingly couldn't return to Braavos and the house with the red door, she developped the plan to conquer Westeros in order to find a new home there. She probably never felt truly home during her time with the khalasar, and neither did she in (don't read the spoiler if you haven't read up to the end of ASOS at least)

Qarth or Meereen

later on. Of course, it was somehow due to her obligation to accomplish Viserys' attempt to regain the Iron Throne and to bring the Targaryen dynasty back into the game of thrones. But she never had any physical connection to Westeros apart from the stories of the green land Viserys told her, and she has a very subjective opinion of people like Robert and Eddard who she thinks of as murderers. But I think it can essentially be reduced to her longing for stability and a place she can call home - which can only be consistent for a 13 year-old child.

Nice analysis, Jinjoz!

Chapter 55 - Catelyn VII - S1 E8
Commentary/Summary
Catelyn has made her way back to White Harbor. Her stay at the Eyrie really wasn't pleasant one and Lysa was not too keen on having Catelyn hang around for too long. Catelyn offering to foster little Robert at Winterfell didn't make it any better so she hopped on a boat and headed home. The Lord of White Harbor sends a couple of his sons and guards to escort her to meet up with Robb on his way down south. They meet up at Moat Calin, the castle that guards the Neck, a small narrow neck of land that separate the North from The South. Moat Colin is a pretty underwhelming castle but Caitlyn reassures them that it is extremely difficult to fight against. Warriors would have to fight in waste deep marsh and swamp. Moat Calin is the key to the North and the people of the North put a lot of confidence in it, just like the wall. One thing that occurs throughout this series is trusting in something man made or structures if sorts. Basically trusting in things that you can to control.
So Catelyn and Robb are reunited in a slow motion very well-lit scene. Robb sees his mother and we definitely see little 15 or 16 year old Robb come out in his voice. Robb hasn't seen her in quite some time. I wish that the books made a reference to time and months because we sort of have to take a guess at how much time has passed in the books. We can use things like Dany's pregnancy and if the characters age is mentioned but other than that we are in the dark about it. So Robb really wants to hug his mommy but they are in the presence of a couple of Robb's men and she doesn't want to embarrass him, what a cool momma. they exchange some pleasantries, Ser Rodrick was named castellian of Winterfell until they return, and Grey Wind is happy to see Catelyn. Catelyn asks for some time alone with her son and the men oblige.
We really get to the see the two sides of Robb Stark here. He has been put in a spot where he has to be someone that he really isn't ready to be. He is the Lord of Winterfell and all these bannermen are sworn to the lord of Winterfell. Robb has two sides to him, the kid he is, and the leader he must be. While Catelyn wants to send Robb back to Winterfell she realizes that this cant be done. If Robb went back not only would he be shamed but the army he has gathered would probably disperse and call the whole thing off.
So Robb will have to do what he can do and at this point he doesn't have a ton of confidence. He is hoping that Lysa Arryn will respond to his request for them to join in this fight against the Lannisters and is disappointed by the news given to him by his mother. They go over some battle plans. At this point there are two main forces they have to face, Jamie's and Tywin's. Jamie is going after Riverun and Tywin is basically his guard. Robb plans to split his army with the river in between, face Tywin if he comes against them and make it down to Riverrun to take out Jamie's army. While Robb's men have different plans Robb has confidence in his leadership and tactical skills and decides on his way. Also as a little note, Beric Dondarian is mentioned and it is said that the Mountain slaughtered him and his men as they came to take him.
Book Owns
+1 to Robb for coming out as the real him when his mother shows up
+1 to Catelyn for wanting to respect Robb for the leader he is and not embarrass him in front of his men
+1 to Robb for having a plan and confidence
+1 to Catelyn for not mothering her son in his leadership position.
Book Vs Show
We get a scene here that occurs before Catelyn goes back to White Harbor and is still in the Eyrie. She comes to see Lysa and she is pissed. The news about Ned was sent to Lysa and she decided to not tell Catelyn about it. Catelyn asks her if she will send her men to get Ned out of jail and Lysa refuses while Robin is whining to get breast fed. Lysa is probably one of the infuriating characters. She is off her rocker! So. We know that she was the one who actually killed her husband so we know she isn't really scared of the Lannisters. She fears for the safety of her son but she constantly tells everyone that the Eyrie is impenetrable and yet she will not participate in this war.
We get some really quick time passage scenes when it comes to the war between Robb and the Lannisters. The last scene is them trying to decide if they should go after Jamie or Tywin but coming the conclusion that they need to cross at the Twins either way. A Lannister scout is captures and brought in and this is the scene where Robb really takes a hold of the reins and commands. The Scout was counting the troops and he got up to around 20,000 and Robb only has 18,000. Robb takes a risk here but does it with authority and lets the spy go so that he can report this false number to Tywin. Great Jon immediately resents this decision and Robb stands his ground against him and also his mother. Robb knows he is the leader and he is going to live up to it now.
Show Owns
-1 to Lysa for being off her rocker
+1 to Great Jon. What a guy. Com on give them some privacy! Hey Catelyn, no worries we will shove our swords up Tywins read end for ya
+1 to Robb for owning his position
+1 to Robb for his 'Let's see if Tywin really does shit gold'.

Chapter 56 - Tyrion VII - S1 E8

Commentary/Summary

So we get an interesting situation here with Tyrion and his newly found friends. He has lead them to the outskirt of the outskirts of one of the Lannister camps, signified by the crimson colors and the House Sigil. Tyrion is very unsure of his position with all these clansmen. On one hand he has been taken captive by them and is fulfilling their demands so that he can stay alive. On the other he is their leader because it is by him that they will be able to get into the camp. So basically Tyrion just fakes it until he makes it and slowly becomes the leaders as he heads into Tywins camp. Now let's take a moment and appreciate one of the most under appreciated characters in all of Game of Thrones history... Shagga son of Dolf Baby! I want you to imagine the buffest viking you can, now imagine him bigger and give him two huge battle axes and a third strapped across his back with an army of goats at his side to eat off bits and pieces of the fallen. Seriously this guy is so B.A. Tyrion later describes him as Castlery Rock with hair. In second place comes Timett son of Timett. He is apart of the Burned Men who when they reach the age of a man burn a piece of their kid to show their strength. Most of them burn a finger, an ear, nipple, things like that. Timett grabbed a white-hot knife and shoved it in his eye and was immediately promoted him to leader of the clan... sounds like a frat party I went to once...

So they head into the camp and Tyrion is immediately recognized and is brought to see his father. on their way in the clans men are tripping out to how many people there are in this camp. They are just drooling over how many horses and weapons they are looking at and they stand out like a sore thumb amongst the Crimson armor. They pull up to an inn and a women is hung outside almost eaten completely to bone by crows and her teeth are stained red. Back to the crossroads inn people and Tyrion is okay with all this. This was where he was originally captured so we are back square one. This is kind of cool because George took that side story and made it a completely separate story with a definitive beginning and a definitive end before it flowed back into the main story.

We than get to meet Tyrwin Lannister, probably one of the most intimidating men in Westeros. While his audio book version isn't the greatest, Charles Dance knocks it out of the park with his performance. This guy just screams intimidation and leadership. He's got age on his side but he is toned and is just a man really. His influence instantly affects Tyrion as he comes in. They exchange quick pleasantries and Tyrion heads for the wine and cheese, shocker, and heads for a chair and he is conscious of his stunted legs. Tywin expects a lot from his children and raised the, that way. He is someone you dont want to disappoint, mostly by fear than anything else but the problem is h is right 99% of the time. He makes a decision and you may think that you have a better solution... a lie. Tywin has it all covered. Tyrions gets the news of Roberts death and Ned's imprisonment. One thing I plan to do is go through and through the book again but by POV and I think one of the most interesting parts of this will be is to figure out information as the characters do. While we knew of Roberts death Tyron didn't so it I feel it is going to be interesting re read

We get a quick recap on what is going on in this war. Jamie is basically kicking some rear end and is now at Riverrun preparing to lay siege to it. Tywin has some good choice words against Robb, basically he is a little boy with a bunch of toy soldiers. Beric Dondarion is back though, resurrected for the second time i believe, and Tywin basically hands this off to Tyrion and is like hey could you tkae of him for us? I got way more important things to do here. Than all of a sudden the door bursts down and in comes Shagga. A guard pulls his sword and Shagga grabs the sword, snaps it over his knee and is like bro? really? While everyone is kind of in a panic by this huge dude who just waltzed in, Tywin is calm, cool, and collect about it all. So Tyrion introduces all of his newly founded pets and tells Tywin of the demands they have for bringing Tyrion safely home. Another guy enters the room and reports that Robb stark is on the march. Tywin is in his element. He tells the clansmen that if they join them in this fight than they will recieve all they have been promised and more. They are off to war.

Book Owns

+ 1 to Shagga for being Shagge

+1 to Timett for being Timett

+1 to Tyrion for the 'No goats?' line

+1 to Tywin for keeping his cool and taking control of the situation

Favorite character: Tywin. An amazing introduction. We have never really felt this way about a character. I immediately respected this guy right when I met him and he deserves our attention.

Show Owns

+1 to Tyrion for finally getting some of his wine.

+1 to Tyrion for the face he makes when Shagga demands that he ride with them in war.

Chapter 57 - Sansa V - S1 E8

Commentary/Summary

Sansa is off to Joffery's first court session. She has got her bag of popcorn and has free reign of.... The castle. So she has basically turned into a ward to the Lannisters and she is a wolf among lions. So she walks into the court and all of the tapestries are being taken down and we than realize that Robert basically died with no respect or love. He died and we got a few bells rung but there was no funeral, no moment of silence, just a Throne room clean up and move on. While he was a terrible clean but it is sad that such a great warrior and someone who changed the all of Westeros doesn't get the respect he deserves. Either way back to the show.

So Sansa is amongst the other people and she makes a note the audience is quite small compared to what would show up at Roberts courts. Now this is understandable I guess, the people don't know Joffery, they don't have respect for him, I wouldn't go personally. So Sansa is hanging out and she is walking through the cute little crowd and no one is talking to her and they are all kind of shunning. Now I think this may be because her father is now considered a traitor and the people are don't want to catch the traitor fever in sense.

So this is basically the chapter that introduces the reign of the Lannisters. Cersei has all of this planned out and she is placing her pieces now. So first up is Joffery acting like a ponce and asking Pycelle to read the names of all the people who need to spend their precious time and come the Kings Landing and swear fealty to Joffery. Now it makes it sound like they have to physically come to Kings Landing but I'm sure this is a mail in order system. Like a check this box kind of thing. Hopefully cause man that would be a pain. On the list they mention Arya and this brings some feel go to Sansa of missing her and realizing that this means that they do not know where she is but it also means start she is alive.

First big change is that Tywin Lannister has been called to be the Hand of the King and this is definitely one of the most important moves made. Imagine Twin coming to Kings Landing and being second in command to his nephew? No way. Tywin is going to come to take up the position and take over the kingdom. With him at the head, the reign of the Lannisters will definitely be strong and last. Cersei has also placed herself on the small Council in place of Stannis. Basically they are surrounding Joffery with people who are a whole lot more powerful and influential so that they can run the kingdom through him.

The next changes involve those who are surrounding the King. Janos Slynt is raised to the rank of Lord and is given Harrenhal. We can easily guess that this was the bribe that was given to him for killing Ned men. With him being raised to the rank of Lord he gets his own sigil and he has chosen the tip of a bloody spear which is a slight to how he got his rank of Lord. Next comes up the dismissal of Barristan Selby and is replaced by Jamie Lannister as leader of the Kingsguard. I just realized, neither Jamie or Tywin are even remotely close to Kings Landing as they are off to war. While there is nothing wrong with appointing them to these positions this really shows that they are placing people they want rather than people they need. So Selmy is dismissed which is quite a slap in the face to Selmy due to the Kingsguard being an order where you serve for the rest of your life. He straps his cloak, drops his sword and kind of mocks the King and than says that most likely Stan is will kick Joffery off that Throne. He heads off and a couple moments go by and Joffery than orders Selmy to be taken prisoner. To replace Selmy as a member of the Kingsguard is the Hound. The Hound is no Knight and he straight up tells them that he won't say the vows. I respect the Hound because we know he has a problem with Knights because they break their vows and The Hound knows he won't fulfill those vows so he won't take them.

Sansa then gets some respect for me here. All of the announcements are made and than she walks out to where Selmy dropped his cloak, kneels, and than asks for mercy for her father. Keep in mind she 13 or so and it blows my mind that she has the courage to do this. Joffery's 'heart' is softened, the little prick, and basically if Ned confesses to being a traitor than he will show mercy to him. I never believed him because what is that going to do really? But in the end Sansa still went forward and asked for her father mercy.

Book Owns
+ 1 to Selmy for leaving in style and using some strong words
- 1 Littlefinger for making fun of Selmy. I like Selmy, probably because he sided with Ned on the killing Dany thing. Plus the actor has a good gruff voice.
- 1 to Joffery for stating the obvious after Selmy left
+ 1 to the Hound for not making vows he won't keep.
+ 1 to Sansa for having the courage to step forward.

Chapter 58 - Eddard XV - S1 E8
Commentary/Summary
Ned is pretty flipping miserable at this point. He is down in the dungeons of the Red Keep and man he is just in this dark and lonely place. He is all alone, can't tell when the day comes and goes, wallowing in self pity, plotting revenge in his mind, cursing everyone who betrayed him. Though one thing you have to admit is that Ned accepts that he has lost and that he he is out of his zone. He starts to reminisce of old times with Robert and his rise to taking over the Iron Throne... And than he realized that he is dreaming and Robert break apart and Littlefinger takes over. Littlefinger has shattered Ned perspective of people on a serious way. His best friend Robert who had changed from what he remembered changed to Litefinger, a man who Ned believed to be a friend and than betrayed him.
I was reading on form on request reading and someone suggested that someone should do a re read where they purposely try and show that Ned wasn't totally lost and basically being on his side and I also plan to give that a shot when I do my POV read through. While we see this as Ned putting himself in this terrible spot there we might change our minds if we really focus on what Ned knows. Like I have said before I think that the information that each of these characters know will change how we view some of his actions.
So we get a dream from Ned and once again it is more of memory than a dream. Ned doesn't seem to live in a.... I guess unrealistic world. He doesn't have deep and symbolic dreams, they simply teach us history and Ned is just that kind of a guy. So it is back to the days of 18 year old Ned and a trip from The Eyrie to Harrenhal for a tournament. Robert was there and they just had a real blast. Rhaegar Targaryen won that tournament in the joust and the big part of this memory was that Rhaegar galloped right past his wife, Elia Martell of Dorne and crowned Lyanna Stark the Queen of love and beauty. Ned picks up this crown in his dream and it causes him to bleed and than a flashback to the 'promise me Ned' moment. The bleeding crown could show the suffering that he will go through because of the love that Rhaegar had for Lyanna. While it is a theory that they loved each other if he is passing up his wife for her than it is pretty clear.
Occasionally a jailer will bring Ned some water but no food. He barely gets a few words out before he leaves him back in the darkness. Than all of a sudden Varys shows up but in a non recognizable disguise and we immediately start to wonder about Varys. Granted that Ned is in a pretty terrible non cognitive state but still it takes Ned time to believe it is him. So now that we know Varys can disguise himself well we are going to be on our toes. So Ned basically wonders when he stands at the moment. He feels protected since Catelyn has Tyrion and than his 'shield' once again is ruined when Varys informs Ned that Tyrion was released. Ned doesn't feel Varys is on his side because he didn't do anything while his men were being killed. Varys knows what he is doing and knows his power. He couldn't do anything in that situation so he stayed safe in that situation so that he can make a play later.
Varys is very careful and powerful. He knows when to make his plays and he has his own motivations. First off his priority is not necessarily his own risk to power but more of his safety which may possibly lead to his demise (I don't know if he has a demise but he does it might be because of this). One difference between Littlefinger and Varys is that Littlefinger is in it for his own power and is willing to get his hands dirty. Varys is more about keeping himself safe and doing things behind the curtains. Varys's main motivation is to serve the realm and what he wants is peace and he will do what it takes to have that. Varys knows that if Ned is executed than the North is going to rebel. He tells Ned that he needs to confess to being a traitor and that Cersei will most likely let him live the rest of his life at the wall as a member of the Night's Watch. Ned pretty much says he can't do that and this is when we learn how far Varys will go. He basically says well Ned you have to remember your daughter and if Ned defies the crown the he can't guarantee her safety. While he is not threatening his daughter he will use her as leverage to get what he wants.
Book Owns
+ 1 to Varys for having a good head on his shoulder
+ 1 to Varys for having a good list of priorities.
Book Vs Show
So I really have noticed something in Ned and I might have said this before. Ned is highly opposed to the murdering of children. In this scene he tells Varys that that is the reason he told Cersei his discovery so that she could save her children, he spoke out against the death Elia's children by the hand of The Mountain, and he spoke out against killing Dany because she was so young. While his honor is one of his good quality's and tuned into his weakness, maybe it was this stand that truly was his downfall. I'll have to look into it as I do my POV reading.

Chapter 59 - Catelyn VIII - S1 E9

Commentary/Summary

Catelyn is truly in a state of fear at this moment. Her oldest son is marching to war against the Lannisters, one of the most powerful families in the world, her husband has been taken captive by said Lannisters so he can be held up for ransom or as a threat, and her home is being sieged by the Lannisters. Her whole life is being attacked at this moment and at the moment there is nothing her and Robb can do about it. For Robb to get down to Riverrun in time to help them he must cross the Trident through the use of Walders Fray's bridge at The Twins. Catelyn gets her fears together and realizes that the only fear she can settle at the moment is by helping her son Robb which at this moment is all she has.

Robb has really grown into a very impressive leader. He has been riding among his men and taking each one of his lords into consideration and listening to their counsel. He truly has learned a lot from Ned and he is applying it in his life. Kids back than and in that environment simply just grew up a whole lot faster than they do in the society we know and live in. We than get info on movements of Tywin, Jamie, and there situation. Basically Tywin is down South on one side of the Trident while Jamie was on the other heading towards Riverrun and Walder Fray has called his banners and is holding them up in his castles on the Green Fork. The Freys are sworn bannerman to Hoster Tully of Riverrun and yet he is just holding up his men in his castle and not acting on anything that is happening. Catelyn worries that he will eventually side with Tywin due to his power and Walder truly wishes to be on the winning side no matter who he has to back stab. Now Robert Glover here totally predicts the future. He asks if the Freys will betray them to the Lannisters and as we know in ASOS he does.

After they recieve news of Walder Frey's actions Catelyn orders that archers be placed outside the castle to shoot down any ravens that may report their movements to Tywin Lannister. After the news on Riverrun being sieged the pressure is on Robb and he basically is like 'all right guys we gotta go kick some trash!' Than we get some mother scolding which is actually something Catelyn has been pretty good about it and apparently doesn't think she has scolded and sort of embarrassed Robb at this moment. Catelyn basically calls him a little child because his first reaction is to attack while it is diplomacy that is needed to get them across the Green Fork. Afterwards we go through her thoughts and she think well good think that I left or else it might have looked like I scolded him like a child... didn't she just do that? little confused.

Lord Frey sends out his oldest son to speak with Robb and invite him in to discuss the terms of him being able to use his bridge. They argue about it possibly being a trap and who should actually go in. Catelyn hops and volunteers to go in. She has known Walder Frey all her life, he will not harm her and she has just got the guts to do it. So she is lead to Walder Frey and man this guy is basically the worst grandpa in the world. Been married 8 or so times, his current wife is 16 or so and he in his nineties and is just bad mouthed. He has absolutely no filter and he actually gives us the experience of when your talking to someone who just wont stop talking and just goes on and on. I was getting a little irritated just reading it.

So we get to the terms and Catelyn lays these out in order of severity. First is that Walder Frey wants two of his sons to be fostered by Catelyn at Winterfell so Robb orders a couple of men to escort them back to the North. Another one of his sons or grandsons is to be Robb's squire which once again really isn't that big of a deal. In truth we really don't hear anything about this squire so it must not have been that annoying of a thing. Now we get to the two more serious things. Arya is to be wed to one of Walder Freys sons when she comes of age and Robb is to marry a daughter when the war is over. This is another mile marker for Robb here. Catelyn even says that you really start to fight a war when you start making marriage packs. Robb accepts these terms and he is allowed to cross the river. It seems like a lot to cross a bridge but this just really shows us what kind of a guy that Walder Frey really is. He knows the power he holds by having the only bridge for leagues and he is just dirty and rotten enough to milk them for all they are worth.

Book Owns

+ 1 to Robb. He is growing up to be a pretty awesome leader. Sadly we know what happens in the end but heck let's enjoy it while we can.\

Chapter 60 - Jon VII - S1E9

Commentary/Summary

We get the after more to of the zombie freak out moment and Jon is pretty burned up, which is generally what will happen if you grab a bunch of curtains that are on fire to kill the zombie. Injury to the hand is something that occurs often in these books. Catelyn has her hands cut when she is protecting Bran, Jamie's hand is cut off after on, and I. Pretty sure there is at least one more that I can't think of at this moment. Having a use of your hands in this world is a big deal. It is how you work, fight, live and cripples are not exactly cared for as they are in our society. This could be a sign that maybe these characters will eventually become in sense useless, in other words, they will eventually die. George generally injures those people who he plan on killing. He may do this as a slight way to prepare us for it and it may be moments we can keep our eyes open for and it foreshadow the future of said character.

So Jon and Mormont are going over everything and we get a mention of a reoccurring dream that Jon is having. He dreams of the wight who attacked him but it has the face of his father Ned Stark. Now this could mean a lot of things but the first thing that I think of is that Jon subconsciously sees Ned as an enemy of sorts. Probably some daddy issues that are coming up and here and Jon is showing us that he has Italy resented Ned throughout his life. While it is Cat that treats Jon like snot it is Ned that has put Jon in his situation. Jon results being a bastard and he resents Ned for this. Jon doesn't like these dreams and he may not want to resent Ned but it is clear that he needs to get some issues figured out.

We than get a small look into what Ser Barristan has been up to. So as we know Joffery threw a hissy fit and sent some men to imprison him but what we learn now the Barristan totally iced those guards and is now on the run. We know at this point that heads off to the Free Cities and ends up in the service of Daenerys Targaryens, but not 100 percent as to why. I guess he served the Targaryens before he was pardoned by Robert so it could be him just rekindling his loyalty to the Targaryens. What it is interesting though is that Barristan doesn't go swear fealty to anyone else, he had plenty to choose from.

We than get a pretty cool moment but even Mormon and Jon. Mormon pulls out a sword and gives it to Jon. This sword is made of Valaryen steel and is considered a 'bastard' sword which is fitting for Jon. It is balanced between a great sword and short sword. Light enough that you can one hand it and the hilt is long and ugh that you can wield it with two. This sword belonged to Ser Jorah Mormon who left it behind when he was exiled felling that had dishonored d the family name and didn't deserve it, so Props to Jorah for not being selfish. So this is a pretty big moment for Jon because he has actually dreamed of this moment between him and Ned. Since he is a vast and he is not entitled in anyway to Winterfell or Ice, the Valaryen blade that Ned owns. Jon has this moment where he is like 'well this really cool but I wanted to get my dad's sword... But heck this will do'. He is just in conflict just cause he wants to be apart of his family so bad but he can't so he might as well take what he can get.

So it was about right here where I was thinking... Wait what happened to the other Wight? Turns out it also went on a freaky rampage and killed a couple guys before the finally hacked it down. They decided to take one if his hands and send Ser Alistar to Kings Landing to show the king so that they can be taken just a little more seriously. So Jon is free to go and we get a scene that is pretty much a mirror of the Harry Potter scene when Harry get to his Nimbus 2000 in the first movie. He goes down to the yard and everyone is just begging see it and everyone is jealous and is like holy cow wow it's so beautiful! Pretty cheesy scene but that is life.

Jon is than summoned by Maester Aemon to the rookery and we get a pretty intense conversation. So at this time Robb has started his march south and Jon has really been struggling with this. He feels that he needs to be in this fight but he is bound by his oath to not get involved and stay neutral. So Maester Aemon gives him some counsel and it's pretty deep. I feel That they is something a little more deep here than I'll get so I'll have to come back to it. Aemon basically tells him that the Nights Watch vows to not love or have a wife because that splits their loyalty. Men of the Nights Watch need to be married to their duty of defending the realm because they are all that stands between the White Walkers and Westeros. Than Maester Aemon tells Jon love is the bane of honor, the death of duty.” This will apply to quite a few characters in the series. The one on my mind is Robb. He was in his prime with his army winning every battle, he than falls and love and breaks the vow he made with Walter Frey which leads to his death. Jon falls in love with Igrette and he eventually chooses duty over his love for her and he lives (at least for now). Oh and Maester Aemon is a Targaryens so there are some still around.

If yall have any insight on the discussion of the Raven and the Crow let me know cause I don't have many solid ideas.

Book Owns
+1 to Mormon, I don't know if he realized how much that meant to Jon but go him
-1 to Jon, he just seemed a bit whiney to me and it just annoyed me
+1 to Maester Ammon for some kick butt counsel to Jon, very impressed

Chapter 61 - Daenerys VII - S1 E8
Commentary/Summary
This chapter is pretty straight forward to me. It is all about Dany realizing that the culture she has so warmly embraced is not everything she had thought it was going to be. Drogo and his men have raided a village of the Lambs men and also took out another Kahls army in the process. This really shows how much they respect the laws of Vaes Dothrak because this Khalasaar dines with Drogo while they were there. Went from sharing the same table to killing each other in a matter of weeks.... Possibly months. I wish there were more references to time in these books because it would be awesome to map it out. I'll see what I can do.
So Dany is going through this village after it has been destroyed and I'll tell you it wouldn't be a pleasant experience for anyone. People are dying while men come and lop their heads off, women are looting the dead bodies and retrieving arrows, men are raping women over dead bodies it really isn't a place I would visit. Jorah meets up with Dany and goes over what happened with her, talking about what they will do with the slaves they take and so on. So let us keep this mind that Dany sees herself as being former slave. Viserys dictated her every move, used her for his own gain, and sold her to Drogo as a slave. So save to say that Dany is not too fond of slave owners or having some enslaved.
So she pops and has Jorah stop the men from raping the women. Jorah is very well versed in the culture of the Dothrak and hesitates because raping women is seen as their prize for winning this raid. Eventually he does what he is told and they are not too happy with Dany at the moment. While Dany saw this sort of ferocious savage like behavior at her wedding I think she was seeing so much of the good parts of the culture that she forgot about this side of it all. Now if you compare how she dealt with it back than, basically sitting their fearing for her life, to know, commanding that it be stopped and having that authority to do that, it is pretty amazing to see her rise to power.
So she claims all of these captures people as her slaves. I guess it one of those, well all the other slave owners are terrible so I'm going to be the cool one that all the slaves are going to want to be owned by me. She brings them all to Drogo who is pretty wrecked but doesn't have the pride to show it in any way. He basically has an arrow through his shoulder and have of his peck is sliced like a piece of turkey. So we get the oh are you hurt moment. Dany than explains what she had done with all of the servants and at first Drogo is like 'well babe that is just the way it is.' One of Drogo's men than make a comment about how the horse doesn't sleep with the sleep and than Dany just goes ham on him and says that dragons eat horses and sheep a like. Drogo is pretty dang proud of his wife after that so he allows Dany to take the rest the people as her slaves.
Now we get to meet Mirri Maz, a healer and magi in this village. So Drogo is like hey come get it bae and than he gets all weak from his wound. They call for a healer but there eunuchs were too far away. One of the slave women that Dany had saved speaks up and says that she can heal him. After some debate she is allowed to patch him up and she does so. Now, we know that this is the women who will be the source of the demise of Kah; Drogo which really sucks because he is pretty B.A. Now did she have intentions to kill Kahl Drogo from the beginning? I very much think so. She saw the oppurtunity and took it so that she can be close to him. I think she truly did patch him up but she knew that Drogo would be too proud to take orders from a slave and she planned for his wound to fester and for him to die from them. She really is on my list of the most hated characters.
Book Owns
+1 to Drogo for looking so B.A. with his wound
+1 to Dany for her 'Dragons eat Sheep and Horses'
+1 to Dany for stopping the madness!
Book Vs Show
They tones down this scene when it comes to the rape which I am grateful for. One thing that i think they added is that the reason that they raided these people was to take them as slaves and sell them for gold so that they could buy ships. I think this really hits Dany because she is just shocked at what is happening around her and than she realizes that this is happening because of her mission to take back Westeros. I'm pretty sure the main reason in the book was because Drogo wanted to take out another Kahl but I'm not 100% sure.
We get an added scene where Drogo goes fetching crazy on one his blood riders. Basically this blood rider is like 'dude bro you really gonna listen to your old lady? You ain't no true Kahl'. So Kahl Dorog is like all right bro your going down. So he has this super intense speech, drops all of his weapons and does some freaky dodge moves and than pulls out the guys throat and tongue. Now what is interesting is I'm pretty sure that this wasn't originally in the script which was written by George R. R. Martin. This particular blood rider wasn't supposed to die and apparently was going to come back as a huge threat to Dany later in the series. I'm not 100% sure on that so don't quote me.
Show Owns
-1 to Dany. I'm sorry but that line of 'the dragons eat horses and lamb alike' was so much more intense in my head and it was just a passing phrase in the show.
+2 to Drogo for being such a boss

  • 2 weeks later...

I know I don't have a lot of followers but heck for the few who do.

Thought I would just post and let you all know I still plan on finishing this. getting maried in about 25 says and I just moved into a new apartment and settling in. Anotehr thing I have been doing is actually finding ways to make this chapter by chapter analysis even better than it is. I have quite a few ideas. Working on timelines, a even deeper book vs show comparison that will integrate a rating system between GRRM and D & D, A character guide for beginning readers, Map control, titling chapters, and working on a pretty awesome marking system I have going for my books. I don't know how to post a picture but if I can I will show what I'm doing cause I'm not gonna lie its pretty cool. I'm about halfway done with the next Tyrion chapter and hopefully will get it up soon.

Also, the reason I posted this analysis in the Still Rading Game of Thrones section is because I hadn't finished the books and didn't want to be spoiled. Since than I have read the books and am not worried about that anymore. is there anyways I can move this thread to the re read project and possibly get a little more traffic? let me know!

Let me know if the character guide I added is good or just annoying and not needed. I will probably change it so it doesn't include absolutely everyone who appears in the chapter, but let know.

Chapter 62 - Tyrion VIII - S1 E9

Commentary/Summary
Tyrion is heading to have dinner with his father and the army leaders and man does this dinner sound so good. George loves to give good details about the food and how our characters react to said food. This also makes us react and I'll tell you my mouth was watering right along with Tyrion over the crackling skin of that roasted pig. Oh so good. Tyrion is walking up and as he is always when he is around his father Tywin he is quite self conscious about being a dwarf and how he walks. Though if you notice almost everything that Tyrion says at this dinner is a quip which I feel is his defense mechanism. People have made fun of him his whole life so he makes fun of everything in life to cover up his insecurities about being a dwarf.
As they are at dinner Lord Ledford makes a few comments about the savages that Tyrion has brought down from the mountains. Ledford is I charge of the armory for Lord Tywin and he was reluctant to hand over two double edged crescent battle axes over to Shagga who already had one strapped to his back. With this extra bit of ferocity shown from these men Tywin has decided that Tyrion lead his Mountain men in the vanguard, the men on the front line. According to Tyrion, Tywin either has take As huge amount of respect for Tyrion or he wants to get Tyrion killed. Does Tywin really want Tyrion to die?... I don't think so... Well.... I think a big reason he puts him in the van is to get rid of the Mountain Men. If Tyrion dies than so be it, at least that is how I see it. To add just a little more insult Tyrion would actually be under the command of The Mountain rather than leading it himself. Tyrion loses his appetite and is dismissed amid a loud laughter at his actions. An interesting note is that twice within this time of dinner, Tyrion and Tywin both bring up Jamie and it is just a clear act of saying that Tyrion wishes he could be as good as Jamie and that Tywin wishes he had a second son like Jamie. Needless to say that Tyrion has some self esteem issues and daddy problems. Even later in the chapter he compares himself to Jamie as he heads off to battle, wondering if he contemplated death as much as Tyrion does.
Tyrion sets out for his tent which is a shock he found it as the Lannister army is 20,000 strong. On his way he passes by his little army of class men who are roasting an entire ox over a fire, which is normal right? He if do his tent and sees Bronn and his new squire, Podrick Payne, hanging around the fire finishing dinner. Bronn found a whore named Shae for Tyrion which eases him. After Tyrion romps around with her he goes out and chills with Bronn. Bronn is someone who can be your best friend as long as you keep paying him. George must have had some good friendships growing up because Bronn and Tyrion really just click well and have good comebacks for each other at all times. Kind of like those bromances you see in the movies.
Tyrion goes and crashes and is woken up to a war horn and is informed by Bronn that Robb marched through the night to catch the Lannister off their guard. Tyrion rushes around to get battle ready which shows how he has changed. Before the Eyrie I'm sure he would have found a way to of have to be in the battle, but he has become battle worn and he immediately gets his armor on. Since he doesn't have his armor from Casterly Rock he uses mismatched armor, which is another prod to him not fitting in with the Lannisters.
Tyrion heads off to battle. He has been given command of his Wild Men and is under the command of the Mountain. He heads off to the vanguard and is given charge to hold the river. Now doing a recap of fighting isn't too exciting but heck here's the basic rundown. basically arrows are shot first and than most of Tyrion's guys just break rank and go at them like crazy! Tyrion is yelling charge when there already running. Shagga goes in and just lays the law man. He kills a dude and keep swinging with the guy still attached to his axe and than he actually roars in a super B.A. way. The Mountain charges down a whole spiked ball of northerners and Tyrion faces off against 3 northerners in one on one combat. One of them he out does and cracks him in the head, the other he rides down to help Bronn out, and the last one we were a bit nervous on. Tyrion hits the ground in the fight and than he thrusts his spike on his helm into the horse, causing the northerner to fall and to yield. I can say that George is pretty good at these war/fighting scenes. These battles actually can have us conflicted. We love Robb Stark and we love Tyrion. So we want Robb to win but Tyrion not to die. With the series written with some many perspectives we get 4 sides of every situation and it can sometimes conflict us. So the fighting is over, Tywin is sipping some tea by the river and a rider shows up and informs him that had captures a few of the leaders and turns out Robb has taken basically his whole army across the twins and is headed for Riverun to defend it against Jamie and his army... so ya... Tywin kind of got schooled here.
Book Owns
+1 to Shagga for needing 3 axes.
+1 to Bronn and Tyrion for their Bro out moments.
+1 to Bronn, 'Always follow a big man into Battle
+2 to Robb, He schooled Tywin and Tywin knows it

Chapter 63 - Catelyn X - S1 E9

Commentary/Summary
Catelyn is on pins and needles for pretty much this whole chapter. Robb has made his way down all the colors of the rainbow forks that surround Riverrun and he is ready to kick some Lannister rear end. Robb sent a good amount of his men to keep Tywin Lannister busy but he was than reinforced by the army at Seaguard, who is sworn to House Tully and the protection of Riverrun. Catelyn does a good amount of reminiscing here. She is look at her son and is so proud of him but so sad at the same time. She has been placed in a safe place and guarded by 30 men at the command of Robb, and all she can really do is wait to see what happens. She goes through her other moments related to this. Her father had always had her wait when he would go to battle, Brandon Stark, her would be husband, told her to wait when he went to take down The Mad King, and Ned told her to wait as he went off to finish Robert's Rebellion. This is just her motherly nature coming out and is especially worried as Robb mounts up to ride with his men into battle. Now this is a different kind of leadership than Tywin showed in the previous chapter. While they are both formidable leaders they command differently. Robb has to prove himself to his men since he is such a young King so he rides with his men, gets to know them, and fights side by side with them. Tywin has been around for a while and has a reputation and demands respect. He is so seasoned that he doesn't have to fight with his men but merely command them and they will do it.
Now our first thoughts when we think of the North men are almost like a viking warrior kind of people, more of a run and gun kind of people. We are quickly proven wrong on that point as we get a quick run down on the plan. This battle is extremely based around the personality and habits of Jamie Lannister. Most of this information is coming from The Black Fish, Brandon Tully, Catelyn's brother. Bryndon knows that Jamie is not a patient personal will not just hang around while his men build siege weapons to take down Riverrun. Robb simply has sent some of his men to go and raid areas for Jamie to attack and Robb positions his men and has successfully surround Jamie and tonight is the night for the attack.

One thing that important to remember is that this is not all of Jamie's host. Riverrun is placed in the fork of the rivers and to successfully capture Riverrun, which is what Jamie has done. One thing that I wish was changed is the fact that we never get a perspective from Robb and this battle is quite intense and would have loved to get a first hand perspective on it. We will get it all from Catelyn's perspective and she is basically looking down in the battle. We don't get many visual descriptions but we get all the sounds of the battle which really makes it just as intense. I'm assuming that since we got a very in depth battle last chapter that this one is more generalized. Most of the chapters have something connecting them to the previous one, it is quite interesting.

So the battle is over and Robb rides back to Catelyn unharmed and is pretty shocked up. He can barely get his words out and is kind of in shock at the deaths of Karstarks sons by the hand of Jamie Lannister. Jamie has been captures and I swear it just makes him more cocky than usual. Catelyn than basically lays it out that it is great they one the battle but they need to take down the rest of his host. Theon hops in and is all like 'I know but heck we just kicked some serious trashv and is immediately shut down but Catelyn and Robb agrees. Sorry Theon but they are looking at the big picture here.

Chapter 64 - Daenerys VIII - S1 E9

Commentary/Summary

Drogo is cruising through the desert and he is not doing too good. He has been given instructions on how he can properly be healed but he has quickly forgone those and basically a entry with his own healers ideas. Because of this neglect he has gone down hill and he is slowly losing all of his energy and his coherent thoughts. The thing that is just so hard to comprehend and also believe is that the guy who is just as B. A. as Shagga son of Dolf is being taken down by a INFECTED BOO BOO! I mean he is Dang week that he can't even brush away the blood flies that are buzzing around him, the Westeros version of vultures.

Dany is riding beside him and she reaches out to steady him and he just plops off his horse and she is quite frantic about this. The Dothraki are considered the horse lords and if a Kahl can't even ride a horse than he is not fit to lead a Khalasaar. His bloodriders come riding up and two of them are concerned but Qotho.... Oh Qotho.... Seriously why did Drogo make him one of bloodriders! While Dany is trying to keep it cool and be like 'hey let's just set up camp and take care of him, no one has to know he fell' Qotho is like 'look gal, he fell, I might as well take over cause I ain't listening to you..... Brrr fine I'll listen to you'.

They set up camp and Jorah shows up and inspect Jorah. He basically tells Dany that Drogo is as good as dead. Dany just refuses to believe that he is past saving and she sends for Mirra the Magei. While they are waiting for her to come her and Jorah gives her the lay down of what is going to happen if Drogo dies. Dany sees that it makes sense that her son will take over but that is not how works here. The strongest is the one who leads. Drogo earned his position of power and it can be taken away from him simply falling from his horse.

Dany hits the point where she knows what she has to do and knows that is going to upset the Khalasaar. She orders Jorah to suit up and she meets with Mirra. Mirra says that there is now earthly way to heal him, but dark magic can. Mirra than says that only life can pay for death an that is a phrase that will set the pace for quite a lot of deaths in this series, especially the last chapter of this book. Dany tells her to do absolutely whatever it takes. Drogo's horse is brought in and sacrificed and Mirra starts doing some freaky dancing while Dany leaves the tent. Shadows show up and dance with her this is when all he'll breaks loose.

Jorah shows up and is pretty livid with Dany. Jorah obviously has spent a lot of time with these people. He knows there culture and Dany has crossed a serious line with her allowing this ritual to happen. Jorah is loyal to Dany and protects her and Drogo regardless. Qotho and a couple other people a basically try and stop all of this and Jorah and some other Dothraki who are loyal to Dany defend. Jorah eventually kills Qotho but amidst all of this Dany goes into labor. Jorah's only choice is to bring her to Mirra since she is the only one who knows how to deliver the baby who is close.

This chapter is a lot about the events that happen. Drogo falls, Dany goes to the extreme to save his life by allowing basically dark magic to be used among people who are highly against it. Day's actions are very desperate and they do a whole lot more harm than good. I believe her best bet would have been to leave with Jorah. You can say her actions were based on her love for Drogo but I have always had a feeling that Dany was suffering from a bit of Stockholm Syndrome. All in all Dany opened up a can of worms and we are left not knowing at all what will happen with her and the baby.

Book Owns

+2 to Jorah. Jorah kicked some serious butt while defending Dany and he is extremely loyal to her even when she does something he condoms.

I am neutral when it comes to Dany for this chapter. I feel her actions has caused all of this but it is understandable why she did what did. Plus I know that she will suffer for the choices she made.
