Wow, it just dawned on me how few movies I've seen this year. The only one I've seen of those list's is The Grand Budapest Hotel.

I have the same feeling. I have seen several of these movies. Hope I will see them all by the end of the year. I will have time, that is for certain. :)

My predictions for the Best Visual Effects category at the Oscars.

From the movies I saw, I would go with:

Interstellar

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Guardians of the Galaxy

Edge of Tomorrow

A few other movies that I didn't see that may get into this category:

Birdman

American Sniper

Exodus: Gods and Kings

My prediction on winner: Interstellar or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

The thing I always hate about this is how long it takes for these movies to be released where I live :( Whiplash isn't being released here, so I'll have to wait for the Blu-Ray. Inherent Vice, Birdman, Foxcatcher will be released but that's for the end of january at the earliest.

Best Original Song - Motion Picture

Big Eyes (2014): Lana Del Ray(Big Eyes)

Selma (2014): John Legend, Common(Glory)

Noah (2014): Patty Smith, Lenny Kaye(Mercy Is)

Annie (2014/I): Sia(Opportunity)

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014): Lorde(Yellow Flicker Beat)

I must say that this surprises me. No nomination for Begin Again? That's almost criminal. Especially when Annie, which seems pretty universally hated does get the nomination. I'm pretty sure that nothing in this line up is as strong as Keira Knightley's 'a step you can't take back' in Begin Again (her other songs are great to).

What the hell is Jessica Chastain in Interstellar doing in a Best Actress category? Did anyone seriously watch Interstellar and say "wow, she's giving the performance of the year"??

I don't think she got nominated for either SAG or GG... In OP are the GoldDerby's predictions... I will delete them if they are confusing. Nominations for SAG and GG are posts #8 and 9. Sorry for that.

I have the same problem. I have only watched several of the movies. Plus I was injured so wasn't able to go to cinema... Couple of days ago I went to see Hobbit and regretted it... I am really interested in seeing Birdman, Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game.

Theory of Everything doesn't appear to be liked very much. Of those three, I think Birdman is definitely one to watch. Although, if I had to choose, I'd see Whiplash. Everything about that movie strikes me as great. It pisses me off that they won't be releasing it here :(

Yeah, Whiplash sounds interesting and according to trailer is worthy of watching. IDK, this year seems somewhat more interesting than the last one in terms of the movies. But, I need to see them first.

I know right, this has been a great year. I have counted my tickets for the last year and I went 26 times! And of those 26 times there was only one movie I thought was bad. One or two were mediocre, but all the other ones were great. And there are so many movies I haven't seen yet.

Whiplash didn't get a Best Film nomination? Really? Whatever, here's hoping JK Simmons wins the Best Supporting Actor Award. I haven't watched Foxcather or Birdman, so can't really comment on those, but Simmons definitely deserves it more than Ethan Hawke.

The lack of any kind of recognition for Timothy Spall in Mr Turner, the inclusion of Paddington and the inclusion of The Hobbit in FX category - is BAFTA trying to lose what little credibility it may once have had??

The Hobbit has good FX. It's not about how much they're overused, but their quality. Still, I am rooting for Interstellar in that category.

I'm not much surprised by this. It was always going to lose out to movies like The Theory of Everything or The Imitation Game just due to the fact that they're British. It'll get a Best Picture Oscar nom.
