Dolorous Gabe Posted January 21, 2015 Share Posted January 21, 2015 WELCOME TO GAME 5 OF ACROPHILIAGreetings fellow boarders, here begins the sign-up thread for the new Acrophilia game.In this game, participants will be given a character from ASOIAF to whom they will set about creating a clue from a choice of two randomly generated acronyms. Then the clues will be placed on the game thread for each player to try and work out. Each round will consist of characters who all fit a specific theme. Your mission will be to work out all the clues and the theme.Game PlayStep 1:Each player is randomly assigned a character along with two acronyms to choose from. The players will create their clue and send to the host. This will all be done through private messaging. If the clue contains character names, nicknames or references that can work equally well for another character your host will ask you to amend the clue. Clever references to sigils and heraldry may be allowed in this game at the sole discretion of the host. I kindly ask that you on this matter. There will be a deadline for the creation of the clue.Step 2:Once the deadline is reached and all clues are in and acceptable, I will publish them on the thread and players will have a certain amount of time a deadline, if you will to work out the clues. In this game I intend to impose a NO PRELIMS rule. I will give a vague hint to the theme on the thread, but not necessarily tell you that the hint is in fact a hint. There will be no discussion regarding the clues on the thread (complaining about a clue is fine, but no in-depth discussion). If I deem any player to have breached this rule I will dock points from said player. If you want to vent, vent at the host in private messaging (I may regret this statement later).Now pay attention because this is NEW. Players may purchase a hint to a clue's answer at a cost of 1 point per hint. They may also purchase a hint to the theme which will result in halving the points you win for getting your theme answer correct or close.Step 3:When the deadline has passed, the host will publish the answers to the clues on the thread, but with no information about scoring and authors. Players will then be given a new character for the next round and some time will be given to vote for your favourite clue of the round with full knowledge of the answers. Please do this in private messaging to avoid any possible revealing of authorship and points tallies. A deadline will be supplied for voting and new clue creation.NOTE: players must still have kept their authorship a secret at this point. Words may be wind but this wind would be too much.Step 4:Once the deadline has passed, the scores and standings will be published and the new clues will be posted on the game thread and the game continues on to the next round.Scoring System3 points for a correct answer to a clue. 1 point will be deducted from your total for every clue hint you purchase.1 point each time your own clue is correctly answered.4 points for working out the theme, with 2 points awarded for being close enough. Should you purchase a theme hint, these totals will be halved.2 points will be awarded for the first 'favourite clue' vote your clue receives. After that, the clue with the highest number of favourite votes will win an extra 3 points, the clue with the second highest number of votes will receive an extra 2 points, and the one with the third highest will receive 1 extra point. If you wish to receive points for favourite clue votes, you must vote for a favourite clue.5 extra points will be awarded to any player who has a perfect guessing round.Winner's Prize:A no-expenses paid trip for two to Valyria.This game will have THREE ROUNDS.Once I have placed you on the list below, please send me a private message with a subject titled Acrophilia 5 [insert your board name here] and await the starting of the game. If I don't have everything from you at the start of that day, I will send you a reminder.If by the following day I am still missing material from a player, that player will lose two points from their total. If another day should pass without the required material, the late player will then lose another 2 points from their total.I will accept requests for an unpunished extension if they are 3 days in advance of the end of the deadline day (so if the deadline day is Thursday, I will only extend the deadline officially if I receive the request by the end of Monday). On a more serious take of your rules I actually have a question: If I answered everything correctly but had to purchase hints to do so, would I still get these 5 extra points? edit: Have a look at the registry and tell me if I got your scoring system correctly, please. One hint per clue, but no limits on number of clues to purchase a hint to per round. Obviously, if you use a hint and still don't get a clue right then you're a point down on that clue, so if you purchase a hint for every clue and fail to get any right you'd be minus however many clues there are. The idea is that you have to be careful with the help you ask for, but at the same time it could be beneficial if used smartly. Gaining 2 points instead of 3 is still better than not getting it right. And if you can use a couple of hints up to make sure you have a perfect set of answers, you'll be up thanks to the 5 point bonus. People tend to use the thread for either complaining about the clues, post-round discussion or queries about rules and deadlines. Just make sure nothing goes on the thread that could help or spoil it for others. I will post all the clues and information on the thread and you can copy and paste them all into whatever app on which you wish to work on. I've got no definitive starting date currently. We do have enough to play the game now, so I might set a date for the handing out of the first round characters. Shall we say Monday 26th January? I'll hand out your characters and then you'll have till the end of Thursday 29th to create your first round clue.
