Survivor: Popping Collars

Cast has been announced:

This season's theme is White Collar vs Blue Collar vs No Collar. Seems like they selected the contestants then shoved them into the 3 groups (a la Brains/Beauty/Brawn). For example they put the marketing guy in White collar, sales guy in Blue collar. Ad agency ASSISTANT is White Collar?

Blue Collar seems the strongest right now. Physically in good shape, people seem alright. White Collar seems like the douche tribe, and No Collar seems like the cannon foddor players.

Initially I obviously identify with White Collar, but Joaquin seems like a total douche marketing exec. No idea how Sierra who doesn't have a real job is considered "Blue collar". You'd think the White Collar team would have a lawyer, doctor, engineer, investment banker, etc. Shirin seems like the only real hardcore "white collar" person.

Oh well, I don't have high hopes for this season. : (

I definitely dig this cast so far -- more than I was digging last season's pre-show, and I turned out to like that cast more than any in years. The females seem more likable and interesting than the males... but it's pre-show, and pre-show means little to nothing in the grand scheme of things. Still, right now I'm especially excited for Carolyn, Shirin, So, Rodney, Nina, and Dan, in no particular order, with Carolyn as my early favorite. Joe is painfully boring and with Hali/Jenn's talk of preferring men to women, I'm very scared they'll team up with him and take out Nina. If Nina survives even one vote, I'll be soooo happy.

I really wish they would cast based on the concept, and not try to shoehorn a concept with the contestants they have.

I dunno, it worked out well for Cagayan. They cast last season was based on the concept and the general consensus seems to be that the season was underwhelming (I liked it just fine but I've liked every season).

I think before they've said they'd rather get a great cast and then fit them into the theme as best they can, but it seems like there are enough people applying to the show that they could afford to pick a theme and then find a great cast that fits that theme. In fact, I think I'd rather put up with a few duds that fit the theme than invalidate the theme with people that don't fit it, even if they're better players.

Yeah, I am just fine with anything CBS announces being allowed here. In the past, we have spoiler tagged contestants before the announcement, but this is part of the promotion of the show. It is on the web and television at this time.

I personally think this cast is really shoehorned into the theme they selected. The Blue Collar team doesn't seem too reflective of the term at all, but I think that tribe may do well. I like Dan, and I really like how he explained how hard he has tried to get on the show. I hope he does well.

I'm excited for this season. The sub-theme title of White Collar vs Blue Collar vs No Collar is honestly one of the stupidest concepts ever. However, we all know it will have little to no relevance on anything in the game like on Cagayan, Cook Islands, or Exile Island. So just looking at the cast as a whole, they seem a really interesting bunch of people and at least half of them are big fans. Probst has been so high in his praise of this season. You can take that with a grain of salt but considering he couldn't even muster up any enthusiasm to build up San Juan Del Sur (rightly so) then that fills me with a lot of hope too.

So happy Survivor Premiere day everyone! My pick this season will be Mike. Blue Collar should dominate early, and post merge I think the White Collars will be targeted, so I think by the time people view him as a threat he may already be in a solid enough position to ride to the end.

I got ready for this season of Survivor by rewatching all 29 seasons during the off time this year. I am really looking forward to this year.

I just finished watching the opening sequence, and this is going to be a fantastic year I think. I am so happy right now...

Man, SO was SOOOOOOO hot! Too bad she didn't trust her instincts and choose honest instead of deceit. If she had done honest I think she would still be in the game. Will this be another case of a team losing and voting off the strong instead of the weak?

I am horrible with names so forgive me. Post office man on blue collar, way to set urself up as a jerk by yelling out that peoples ideas are stupid and won't work while building the shelter. He is already the older out of shape guy, this makes three strikes against him! His only hope is that his friend Mike(?) can carry him along. He absolutely tore it up on the challenge.

No collars tribe, wow, feather in hair guy, way to show how insecure and needy you really are!

I actually think Dan is going to get a redemptive edit similar to what Lisa Whelchel got a couple of seasons ago. There is no way that he is going to be the first boot off of that tribe. They need him in the challenges.

This really solidifies in my mind that 3 tribe seasons are awesome. Every season it would lose it's shine but it really does work every time. Great start to the season, so much interesting stuff on all 3 tribes, all of them have a vastly different dynamic than the other. Vince is a giant loser and it was incredibly awkward watching him, I felt so sorry for Jenn. Having said that, this power struggle between Vince & Joe (that Joe isn't even aware of) is fascinating and this weird love triangle between Vince, Jenn, and Joe (that Joe isn't even aware of) is hilarious and I need Vince to stay for at least a few more eps.

Good premiere. I really like this cast of players, so many of them seem really invested as fans and for the most part, those types of players have been the most entertaining.

I thought one of the more interesting parts of the episode was just how much the tribes embraced their labels and then acted like them. The White Collars had trouble building a fire or making shelter - like they needed Blue Collars. The Blue Collars at the same time looked a little lost without the right type of leadership - Dan's "this is stupid" type of leadership notwithstanding. And the No Collars, well, they just kind of went about their business and got shit done.

I really ended up liking Jenn a lot more than I thought I would. Her pre-game interviews were alright but didn't really make her stand out, but she was the star of this episode, if you would. The ridiculous situation Vince put her in and how she reacted. I think she can be a big player this season....

But at the same time I think that could be said for most of these people. They came to play.

One thing I hope production does in the future, however, is limit the contestants social media accounts. Some of the players are very very friendly on twitter to the point of posting pictures/videos of them hanging out every day/other day and it feels like huge potential spoilers (especially two guys who appear to be massive pals now and they're not on the same tribe right now).

I'm terrible with names but Professor Beardo stood out for me last night. Whether it was his absolute disgust at the woman who he switched out for in the challenge; or the disdain he had for that as he walked slowly up to it instead of hustling. Perhaps it was his demeanor at tribal where either he was bottling up a ton of rage, or simply is dead inside with the actively dead face. I don't know. He's intriguing. I also liked that hes already thinking outside the box (putting up big Ginger's name) but also knowing he needs numbers.

That was great.

I like Max, but he looks like he's trying really hard to lay low and not show how intelligent he is game-wise (he taught a class on Survivor at Northwestern!). I'm not sure if it will work.

Apparently one of the things we didn't see at tribal is So letting the rest of the tribe know about that,

Another Behind-the-Scenes Tidbit: So told everyone about Max’s “Survivor” course, but nobody seemed to care.

I love the personalities this season. I don't know why, but I expected White Collar to thrive and for No Collar to not even have fire on the first day. I also love that Joe is not aware of the rivalry between himself and Vince. The edit is great because they show Vince being insecure and then Joe just doing Superman stuff.

Anyway, I hope someone from No Collar wins since I feel I would be on that tribe.

Ah man, Vince.

I get the feeling So would have been a great player. Then again, for some reason, the people on that tribe didn't seem as smart as I had intially imagined they would be. I guess I'm glad they had that humbling experience of being the first tribe to lose.

Shouldn't we have used the old thread, you know, like all the other tv threads. Makes them easier to find and it sort of logs everything in one place.
