The Daynes of Winterfell?

The "first" vision Bran gets from the Winterfell tree is of blond people with an curved blade killing someone at the tree awakening it. Could it be the Daynes? They are supposedly 10k years old, 2,000 years older than the Starks and the sword Dawn defeated the others as its probably Lightbringer. There are no blonde people as such of Westeros aside from the Daynes.

My guess is that the Dayne sword of the morning helped in the first long night. Even the name Dawn, DAYne, they end the night.

Elio said GRRM doesn't release their words because it would be a giveaway. "Dawn brings the light"

"In appearance, members of the family are stony Dornishmen whose characteristics mostly resemble the rest of the Seven Kingdoms in look, customs and traditions. Unlike the rest of the more Rhoynish-looking Dornishmen, they have pale skin with hair ranging from dark brown to pale blond and they often have violet eyes." awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/House_Dayne

The non-valyrian violet eyes are the "tell" something special is in their blood.

Pale blond hair and violet eyes clearly point at Valyrians.

Possibilities:

A) Daynes are Valyrians living in Westeros

B) Daynes have Valyrian blood because of marriage with Valyrians

C) Daynes and Valyrians have the same ancestors

D) Daynes are so-called ProtoValyrians

E) Daynes have Targaryen blood from marriage from more recent times.

Daynes aren't all blonde. The ones we saw in books have dark hair.

Not so. Edric Dayne has pale blond hair, Darkstar has silvery hair with a streak of dark hair. And just about any artwork of Arthur Dayne I've ever seen depicts him with blond/silvery hair.

You're misremembering. Bran sees a white-haired woman cut the captive's throat, and the hair color of the other people present isn't given. So saying Bran saw "blond people" in his vision is not correct.

That's a good point. It may be something to get us off course like Tyrions black eye and the other person mentioned having eyes so purple they are black. But point taken.

Starfall is going as far south from the North of Westeros as you can basically get.

I think this is significant. Basically the Long Night pushed anybody who wanted to survive ever southward, until there was only sea left. Therefore the last ditch Battle for the Dawn (using a sword subsequently named Dawn) probably took place in a frozen over Dorne …. looking a lot like the Land of Always Winter does now. Maybe that is where the name Dorne originates - Dorne/Dawn?

The Daynes did not move. It was the cold that receded from where they had settled.

I tend to think that any population in the far South would venture as far North as necessary to find out where those infernal Long Nights were coming from.

Great point about the Dayne words BTW. Sins of omission are very telling in this series.

It's possible. Since we have no firm timeline, I guess we can only wait and see. It does fit nicely, however.

They were First Men, so not a stretch to believe they embraced the Old Gods. And none can say where they originally lived, Starfall was merely where they eventually settled due to the falling star (already pointed out).

Not all Daynes are blond. Ashara Dayne was dark-haired. As several people suggested, the appearance of more recent Daynes may be due to intermarriage with Valyrians sometime in the last 5000 years. After all, the Daynes were not incestuous to keep the bloodline pure, as far as we know! ;)

But the same book says that silver hair and violet eyes are characteriatic to Valyrians. Daynes maybe First Men who married some Valyrian.

Valyria was founded 5,000 years ago. The Daynes date back 10,000 (Dawn of Days).

Approximately.

Maybe the Daynes came first.

That it was a characteristic of the Valyrians doesn't suggest it was only characteristic of the Valyrians. Case in point: It's characteristic of at least some of the Daynes.

I'm sorry but why is it a problem to suppose that the Daynes (who technically came first, by the way) could also have those features? Why is it dependent on them intermarrying with Valyrians (which, other than Maekar's wife, isn't recorded anywhere)?

^ This... Too many coincidences to believe anything different. Nice post

They are probably decendants from Yi Ti like most people. Look at Dany's wake the dragon dream, and the story of the God Emperor, the people with pale blonde hair and Gem stone eyes. Now look at the God Emperors all named after Gem stones and the story seems very similar to the Targs and the Dance including the blood betrayal.
