I'm one of those chicks that's not to into romance, but a friend of mine baited me into reading this series by dangling "magic and time traveling" before my eyes and i did. I must say i have fallen in love with this series.I really don't know what to call these books;Romance,Fantasy,Historical Fiction :dunno: anyways i've been searching for forums that discuss the characters and the story and i must say it's been difficult. Not because there aren't forums but because their are fans that are so heavily invested in certain relationships and people in the books that any seemingly divergent thought concerning said relationships and people results in a feverant bashing. There are things that have happened in the books and are happening that i would really like to have an intelligent and objective conversation about. So if there are fans of the Outlander and Lord John series let's getsomething going here. Thanks guys.

I would enjoy conversation about "outlander and Lord John".Been reading them since '95, way before i ever picked up a GRRM novel. To say i love both is an understatement but GOT is everywhere and i have some serious issues getting anyone i know to even try outlander. The loss is not mine! It is a world i jump in every chance i get. Wanna talk?

Yes, I just finished the main series, and of course as I have Dangerous Women I have read Virgins. I am intending to pick up the Lord John stories soon too. I really enjoyed the books, and agree, categorising them as simply Romance is a mistake, they are imo a historical fiction Sci Fi cross over which happens to centre around a couple. I 'd love to talk about them in the way you describe. I tried joining a forum for these books and an FB group but the fans were a PITA in exactly the way you just described. Also I received a really insulting and ott bashing for asking if I was supposed to know who Lafayette was. In which I got labelled an idiot and a dunce and laughed at, only to have them then have a go at me for not knowing American History when I pointed out that I am a Brit so don't know anything about the American revolution.

So yes, discussing with less hysterical people would be lovely.

My gosh finally i so love the series especially the Lord series. I had to duck and cover on another forum because i made the statement that i loved the John and Jaime relationship way better than Jaime and Claire's did not see the shit storm that would have been ignited by that statement.I am reading the Hell-fire club now,i just finished LJG and the Succubus which i'm enjoying so far.Its easy to get caught up in characters and to be very protective of relationships in the story, but what's crazy about this series is the unpredicable nature of the relationships.I guess the hardest for me when talking to others who have read the books is that they ( and they let you know off the bat) are too dead set on things beinfg a certain way.

I'm hoping to have book discussions on the main Outlander series and the LJG series as well. What say you?

You hit the nail on the head about the fans, this to me has been the major deterrent when discussing these books.DG has imo done something really amazing with the characters, their relationship and how they fit into historical events.Oh my gosh i'm sorry about the bashing, unfortunately you do get alot of that on said forums. These are the things i'm hoping to dispell in order to have really good discourse about the books. So as i said upthread i would like to start with and Outlander book discussion. We can decide on if we wnat to do spoilers,go chapter to chapter or just book to book because as we go from novel to novel they get pretty massive.

Looking forward to a discussion on these. I read the first 4 of the books 15 years ago, then got distracted by other things. Then, last year, I got into reading the whole series from book 1 - plus the Lord John books, which I'd never had the chance to get into.

As a Scot, I was a little put off by an American that had, when she wrote the first book, never even set foot in Scotland writing a book based in my country's history, but I have to admit to really enjoying the novels. I'm not so familiar with the American Revolution, but it hasn't dimmed my enjoyment any.

I look forward to discussing these great books with you!
