ScottMerica
Hey there, I'm new here and am still getting used to the way this site works. I've made an edit of GOT Seasons 3 and 4 that is more true to the books and wanna know if I can post it here. I put a lot of work into it and wanna share it with fans who weren't 100% pleased with how ASOS was adapted. I specifically wanna share it on the book forum because, despite the rules, I feel more people there would appreciate it and it's way more active than the show forum. If anyone could help me with my question I'd be very thankful
zelticgar
I'm guessing what you are describing falls under Fan Fiction. GRRM does not approve! :) Its been a lot of years since i have paid attention to the forum rules (sorry Ran!) but last i recall fan fiction was a no-no. apologies if i got that wrong. Those who's opinions actually matter realize that they are two separate works, and view them as such.
Lykos
Hahaha!!! Omg.Would you like to rewrite Star Trek, while you're at it? A few of my friends are displeased with how the reboot ignores some ST canon. ScottMerica, he labors day and night, to put the world of men to right. With hammer, plow, and fire bright, he builds edits for little children. ETA: Sorry SM, but the nature of your post, the place you posted it and your username screamed, "give it to me!". GenChat can be merciless. ;)
protar
Ya, don't do that. Fan-fic is a no no. Also, no one really gives a shit about how 'true to the books' those season are. Those who's opinions actually matter realize that they are two separate works, and view them as such. Self-centered much? But yes, that would count as fan fiction which GRRM doesn't like. He feels it weakens his copy right or some such. Though technically it's fan fic of the show, but still...not going to fly.
peterbound
Self-centered much? Uh… ya? You've been here long enough to know that.
protar
Uh… ya? You've been here long enough to know that. Well at least you're self-aware. But I digress. These aren't the show forums, so I'll just say I think that complaining about the show on the grounds of it's faithfulness to the source material is perfectly valid, and say no more than that. baxus
I'm guessing what you are describing falls under Fan Fiction. GRRM does not approve! :) While GRRM's attitude regarding fan fiction is well known, I'm not really sure if this would really go against his main objection to fan fiction. I mean, it's not as if editing those two seasons to make it more in tune with books already published would put him at risk of a lawsuit by the author of the edit for using the fanfic material in his books. zelticgar
I re-read the post and you are probably right Baxus. I think when i read that he made edits i just assumed FanFic. OP - why dont you post in the TV forum and highlight the things you would change and why. This will open up discussion. If you make good points it should result in some good conversation. PS - GenChat can be a dark and scary place. Tread carefully!
TerraPrime
[mod hat] The answer is no, we do not encourage posting and disseminating of material that violate copyright rules. So, thread closed. [/mod hat]
