I'm having a crazy thought, but what if Melisandre switched Jon and Stannis

  • Stannis knew he couldn't get the mountain clans his way, and decides to do it Jon's way. Better yet, why not just send Jon in his place?
  • Jon begins acting very differently at a certain point.
  • When is the switch able to be made.
  • Could M. include Stannis 'thinking' he is Jon as part of the illusion?

Jon begins acting very differently at a certain point.

When is the switch able to be made.

Could M. include Stannis 'thinking' he is Jon as part of the illusion?

Those drugs. Please share.

Let's say that Mel could pull this off. Let's even say we had a number of covert Stannis POVs. Are you seriously going to say Stannis is going to just hand over what few keys of his kingdom that he has over to Jon just for the sake of a diplomatic muse? Stannis sucked it up and played nice and told the clansmen tales of how teeth grinding is how they express gratitude and honor in the Stormlands. If Stannis somehow had this ability, he would just stay behind the lines while shadow Stannis does things and he would've handed the job over to someone he trusts. Honestly I can't see anyone short of Davos being trusted that much. It just doesn't fit on so many levels.

Were you reading a fan fiction novel and not one written by GRRM? Just curious...because they would have to have been switched for a LONG time...and Ghost would have known.

And as far as I know...teleportation is not part of Melisandre's repertoire.

All the way back in DoD Chapter 17. Jon IV. All they way back then.

It just seemed odd to me that Tyrion told Jon not to have him being called Bastard provoke him, and it doesn't, until Ramsay Bolton says it? It doesn't seem to fit.

Jon is just using that as an excuse to head south. It does fit in the greater context.

But Stannis being provoked by Ramsay calling Jon a bastard makes sense?

Great post. I agree.

I'll add that Melisandre switched herself with Asha after Deepwood Motte, so she can be by her true king StanJon's side. Remember how Mel is nowhere to be seen during the pink letter moment, it's just that AshaMel is so confused she hides in her chamber not knowing what to do.

Yay! Not only is this a fantasy series, it's also sci-fi!

There's a time machine we know nothing about! Since Stannis is old enough to be Jon's (young) father!

You learn something new every day on these boards...

Wasn't Stannis married during the seige of storms end, or am I remembering something from the show? In any event, he was in his late teens (old enough to hold the cattle). That's child being age in this series.

M.Night Shmalayan approves this theory!

From the maker of Sixth Sense, Signs and other films we'll skip over ... comes a movie ... about a guy ... who didn't know he was the rightful king ... and over time he secretly changed into another guy ... who actually was the king ... but he didn't know he was that king ... because he still thought he was the guy who didn't know he was the rightful king ...

I might actually watch this movie, btw.

Ghost: I see switched people.

Summer: In your dreams?

Summer: While you're awake?

Summer: Switched people like, in side out? Up and down?

Ghost: Walking around like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're switched .

Summer: How often do you see them?

Ghost: All the time. They're everywhere.

I know that is lame.

Stannis swaps gigs with Jon? Could explain why Jon (Stannis) gets stabbed in the back, Julius style? No, it just doesn't work really.

Already there's an instance of body-swapping at CB. That had purpose. Another just doesn't make sense, even if it's supposedly before the one we know. Perhaps there's too much wishful thinking in this idea of swapping Stannis with Jon, to make Jon the bigger hero at Stannis' expense.

There'd be more sense in Melissandre and Stannis doing a body-swap, to allow Mel to use her powers at Winterfell. It could prove something to Mel about her powers being stronger at The Wall. Or, there's hidden power she can tap into at Winterfell.

What if Jon (in his dead state) can takeover Stannis' body (live or dead)? It's like Bran does with Hodor. Perhaps it's with Bran's help that Jon's able to do this, and blow Mel's mind in the process. Wouldn't this show how far Bran's advanced under Bloodraven's tutorage? Doesn't this have more sense than Stannis and Jon trading places unseen, sometime in the recent past? Even this is far-fetched, I'll freely admit, but it's not beyond the realm of probability rather than possibility, and in context with building up to a greater climax.

At some point during the next book, more likely to be part of its closing chapters, there is the mightiest battle ever. (Since the last one, several thousand years previous.) Seeing the various elements grow in power (as in strength and might rather than political) ought to be part of what we see leading into this battle to end all battles. (Until the next time - maybe?)
