Fisch
Reading through this book, I don't remember seeing this addressed, so I figured I'd ask - is there any reason why the Targaryens didn't import the practise of slavery when they came to Westeros, or attempt to implement it once they'd conquered the Seven Kingdoms? Aenar did bring slaves with him to Dragonstone. At some point the Targaryens converted to the Faith, which forbids slavery.

During Aegon''s time, but i believe the act of slavery ended before that. Dragonstone is not a big island, they didn't really do much for 100 years, save for trade, I imagine they wanted to give work to their people. According to Ran, and I think the worldbook, it was one of Aegon's ancestors that converted. Hence the ships that brought them from Valyria being carved into idols of the Seven. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/119534-twoiaf-spoilers-inconsistency-or-intentional/?p=6539881
aryagonnakill#2
I've always wondered why none of the 3 Valyrian families knew how to make Valyrian steal or stone.
TheSovereignGrave
I've always wondered why none of the 3 Valyrian families knew how to make Valyrian steal or stone. I don't think Valyrian steel was so commonplace that everyone in Valyria knew how to make it. Think about it, the Targaryens were Dragonlords. Would the Dragonlords be forging their own weapons? Or would they have someone else to do it for them?

I think that is why they were not in power, the top houses held it to themselves.
Bright Blue Eyes
What would they get out of slavery? Except for trouble with the locals. As they are already at the top of the food chain, slavery is completely superfluous. Taxes, servants, they already have everything slaves could get them and more. aryagonnakill#2
TheSovereignGrave, I actually think a dragonlord would have to be involved because I suspect they are forged in dragon flame. We know that the Qohoric still try to reproduce it and that they produce the finest steal in the world, and practice human sacrifice, but they can't really replicate vs because they have no dragons. Also, neither the Valyrons or Celtigars were dragonlords, so if it were the case like you said we could still wonder about them. Or the pyromancers they brought with them, shouldn't the order have known?
