Legion13
In GoT - Bran V. As Bran, Robb, Theon and the rest of the party are taking Bran for his inaugural ride on Dancer, they make their way through winter town. Bran's POV states (according to Old Nan) when the snows fall and the ice winds howl, winter town comes alive. People would leave their fields and holdfasts and pile into the small village to shoulder though the winter, in the shadow of Winterfell's walls. Now winter town and Winterfell were sacked and burned by Ramsay. Even though winter town is burned and Winterfell held by the Boltons, do you believe farmers, peasants and small landowners will return to winter town, as the people have for thousands of years? If so, how will they effect the story? The choice is freezing in your remote homes or taking a chance that the Boltons will hold up the traditions of the Starks 'wolfpack' mentality and allow the lowborn to band together in winter town. Will the lowborn return with wagons laden with supplies to rebuild the burned winter town? Will they return with spears? Most of the characters in the novels are highborn. It would be great to see Stark-loving lowborn peasants rise up against the ruling Boltons. Remember, winter town's main function is to allow the commoners a safer place near Winterfell to suffer through the horrible winters. It was the Starks who have helped the people survive for generations, not the Boltons.
Petyr's Little Finger
Well there was fighting in the winter town as well, so its safe to say that a lot of the folk in the winter town would have been killed. I don't think they are still living there, the fighting has driven them all off. If the Boltons are driven out they might return.
239JMFL34109
i think a lot of people from far away also go to winter town so i could so it still being much larger than summer BUT don't the mountain clans that joined stannis also go to winter town? that cut down on the population too. enderman
Perhaps the small folk remnants are slowly gathering further up in the hills. Perhaps some of the "loyal" bannerman are aware of this and are just awaiting the coming uprise to join and unite once again behind a Stark, if one can be found. They gotta be hiding somewhere. Legion13
That's what I'm waiting for.
James Steller
That certainly would be fitting. Since there'd be so many second sons, old men, hungry men, who'd probably agree to fight against the Boltons and spare their families more mouths to feed in the winter. We'd see another Hour of the Wolf, only this time they defeat the Flayed Man for good and all.
Legion13
In ADWD, Big Bucket Wull tells the greatest speech ever about his Last Winter. Basically doing exactly what I hope the commoners are going to do in winter town.
