No end in sight for TWoW

Oh man... Well, we all knew it was highly unlikely to be released this year, but my optmistic side was still hoping for some good news. Now, I really want the book to come out before season six, but this also seems unlikely at this stage. Fingers are crossed, though.

You need to watch for the warning signs, based on prior precedent

When he says he is "half finished" then it means it is roughly 5 years + 9 months to the next book.

When he says that the book is his "number one priority" it means he is being distracted by other projects. Keep waiting. If he boasts that he has gotten most of those other projects off his plate, then it is roughly 4 years + 6 months to the next book.

If he blogs that he had a "good day" writing the next book, this may mean he is finally starting to focus, which means it may be 4 years and 2 months to the next book.

If he blogs that he actually managed to finish a chapter, then this may mean it is roughly 4 years to the next book.

If he blogs that he has passed the 1100 page mark, then it is 1 year, 9 months to the next book.

I don't remember his publisher ever hinting at an April release unless that was years ago, I never thought, based on his statements of last year that he could possibly get the book finished this year.

It now looks like we will be lucky to get it some time in 2016. Good lord. So much for the '5 year gap' and the 'Meereen knot' being the source of the long time for the previous two books.

Hopefully he doesn't decide to write another novella in the meantime.

I read something in September/October from Bantam saying they were "hopeful" an April 2015 could happen. This was around the time it was announced GRRM would have no involvement with HBO for the 5th season and was focusing solely on the book.

But oh well, it's irrelevant now.

Not so sure about the Meereenese knot. Might he not be still stuck in it?

LOL, well if I keep on knitting instead of finishing the sweater and it turns out I instead decide to knit a sail for my boat, then a football field size flag, am I stuck in it, or doing it on purpose?

Nobody put a gun to his head and made him create a Vic POV who is "on his way" to Essos, or have 60,000 Dany POVs in Dance that are all the same: Meereen sucks, everyone hates me, whatever I do sucks, Slavers Bay is full of assholes who suck....then I fly away on my dragon. And if he has another 60,000 POVs of Dany, Vic, Tyrion all still flailing around Essos for 3/4 of the next book or 4/4 of the next book that is his decision.

I think you are misremembering.

Just Google TWOW and April 2015.

It floated around on various news outlets between August-October that he was contractually obligated to meet that deadline.

Obviously it's not happening, but I didn't magically invent the reports.

No. Someone else "magically" invented the reports. If you look closely at those articles and reports, you will see that - it was never anything but pure speculation. The April 2015 date never came from George or Bantam.

Oh, well. While you're waiting, may I humbly recommend Richard K. Morgan's noirish sword-and-sorcery trilogy A Land Fit for Heroes? It's got some similarities with ASOIAF, particularly if you'd like to see the Hound's darker take on the life of the soldier expounded upon for the course of a series. Or, if you're into sci-fi as well, maybe try his earlier Takeshi Kovacs trilogy, beginning with Altered Carbon. I'd actually start with that one, given that the two have a charming intersection.

You really have to take in to account, the sites that these rumors originate from. A good majority of them, literally make shit up; just so Internet traffic will visit their page.
