can cersei be considered the embodiment of a modern extreme feminist?

i know the first thing to pop up in a reader's mind is '' misogynist '' . But i'm talking about extreme feminists, the type that swells the ranks of feminist groups.

"All men are rapists and that's all they are"

-- Marilyn French, Authoress; (later, advisoress to Al Gore's Presidential Campaign.)

"Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women's movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage." -- Sheila Cronin, the leader of the feminist organization NOW

Under patriarchy, every woman's son is her potential betrayer and also the inevitable rapist or exploiter of

another woman." -- Andrea Dworkin

"When a woman reaches orgasm with a man she is only collaborating with the patriarchal system, eroticizing her own oppression." -- Sheila Jeffrys

"If life is to survive on this planet, there must be a decontamination of the Earth. I think this will be accompanied by an evolutionary process that will result in a drastic reduction of the population of males." --Mary Daly, former Professor at Boston College, 2001.

"All men are good for is ****ing, and running over with a truck".Statement made by A University of Maine Feminist Administrator

Women like these. There are obviously many humane reasonable feminists.

Cersei in my eyes is completely analogous to the stereotypical angry, malicious feminist. She hates men, considers it her right to murder and cheat because robert cheats and kills people. She considers herself super smart and competent though she's clearly the opposite.

Her ambitions and schemes fall short due to her own shortsightedness and malice but she blames it on others. She blames other men in her life for her own shortcomings but is unable to accomplish anything without them. She blames tywin for not being able to give her rhaegar, she blames jaime for not being there for her at the blackwater( though none these are tywin or jaime's fault )

For example she hates tyrion, but she let's him defend the city during blackwater and contributes nothing to the effort. We saw cat and jenna sitting at war councils and taking part in planning. Cat constantly provided robb with good council( though he didn't listen )

Cersei however contributes nothing to the effort. Instead she sits the whole preparation and battle phases out, drinking, whoring, bitching and complaining that she has never been appreciated for her role for the family.

Furthermore she also displays an inability to see her own fault like most hardcore feminists.

No. Cersei is a narcissist. She considers everyone in that way, not just the male half of the population.

:agree:

Cersei sees everything in relation to herself. Her claims that she's being unfairly treated because she's a woman just show that she has no conception of the fact that she's not a good or effective leader. It has nothing to do with her sex, although I suppose one could argue that her sex could be held against her as an excuse in a strongly patriarchal culture.

Actually I'd say she hates everyone, not just men. And unlike feminists, she has no desire for actual gender equality or the betterment of women, only power and authority for herself. Because she happens to be a woman, some people read her character and mistake that for her being a feminist.

I also hope that you're not ignorant enough to think that those quotes speak for the majority of women who consider themselves feminists. "There are obviously many humane reasonable feminists" reads more like "covering my ass" than "I actually believe this to be the case," but maybe I'm reading you wrong.

:agree: seconded. I`d also add the embodiment of penis envy

Woah, those quotes...... :stunned:

Some people are wastes of space but the 'ranks of feminist groups' are not filled with people like this. I consider myself a 'hardcore feminist' but I also consider myself to be an OK person. I think the OP needs to be careful at perpetuating a 'Femnazi' stereotype of passionate feminists. Feminists want equality, not the mass extermination of men.

Cersei isn't a feminist. Cersei is unbalanced and victim of patriarchal culture that has treated her like an asset and not a person. Her gender ideas are confused, she has had the concept of a strict gender binary forced on her while believing she doesn't fit it.

I'm not sure if she would be a feminist.

What I do know is that all those quotes had me laughing hysterically. Some people :lmao:

The Cronin one is OK, its a point of view I guess. Has marriage ever been a equal institution at best? At its worst it has been a sexual slave trade.

Well, the same could probably be said of many who call themselves hardcore or radical "feminists". It is not just men who are the targets of their rhetoric. "Feminism" (in such contexts) becomes a word used to glorify a tawdry, self-centered approach to reality.

I don't think a feminist would rape another woman like she did in Affc. I would say Cersei wishes she was a man

Cersei wants the respect, dignity, power and opportunity given to men in her world but she has been treated as a walking vagina. She has an unhealthy perspective on gender. She doesn't want to be like Arya or Brienne. She's not 'masculine'.

Cersei uses her vagina as a weapon. She seduces Lancel to get his cooperation in killing Robert, she controls Jaime through sex, she gets the Kettleblacks to do what she wants through sex, she instructs Sansa that that's the way to achieve goals. The only one she has sex with that she doesn't control directly is Robert, and she has other means for controlling him.

Cersei isn't really interested in respect or dignity except on her terms, meaning that she's Number One and everyone else stands in line to kiss her butt.

Well to be fair, 99% of women in Westeros are treated like walking vaginas. I wouldn't say Arya is 'masculine'. I think she's just a tomboy.

Just an opinion I have that Cersei wants to be a man. No real evidence to back it up. Lena Headey said a similar thing in an interview once.

We've already had this discussion in another thread. Personally, I think Cersei is GRRM's critic to extreme feminism, that kind of feminism that feels entitled just for the mere fact of being a woman and like to victimize themselves. Considering that she's also very narcissist, I wonder if that's Martin's real opinion of that kind of feminism.

That is all she thinks she has. That is all she has been treated as so she will use it. She was her father's property to be sold to the highest bidder for fornication and to provide children. Its like when Arya runs through all those things Bran would be able to do without his legs but she wouldn't be able to do because she is a girl. She is less use than a 'cripple'. Ned, in all lovingness, says that she will marry well and have kids, that is it. Her sons will be Princes, Knights, all these great things and all she will ever be is their mother. That is Cersei's life, her sexuality is the only thing she has and as she loses influence over the male extensions of her she's getting crazier and crazier. She seriously thought Joffrey would be her puppet, her pathway to utility beyond her privates.

Hence why I put 'masculine' in quote marks. Arya is a little girl who likes to pick flowers, listen to adventure stories and get into play fights. I was much the same only I was the pink ranger and not sword fighting. She is adamant she is a girl. There is no inkling at all she is transgender or confused about herself. That is what the binary is though, its blue vs pink. Its a toy soldier vs a barbie. Why can't a kid like a pink toy soldier? Why do these rules exist? No one fits them. Before the world wars Pink was a boys colour and represented wealth, now its a girls colour and represents frivolity. In the 1950s more girls read comics than boys, hence the introduction of Batgirl and Supergirl to catch the market, now girls in a comic shop are laughed about on CBS.
