Ideas for Fantasy Setting

Am setting up fantasy setting based on Oceania. It's going to be be 1800's based but not opposed to 19th century content either. Think Polynesian War Canoe fleet meets a rapscallion band of British debtors, and they have to join forces to fight a greater foe. I am endeavouring to find input from the forum. I am a long term lurker and have been inspired by the other threads that have generated such awesome group collaboration.

Unlike the other threads, however, I have a major book deal. I just need a little help on the setting and maybe some rough plot points. Any character suggestions are also welcome.

Costume, speech, these are things I NEED to know about.

JR III

Can probably name drop a few of you in on the dedication page when this goes to the big press if your contributions are worthy.

Hot Dwarf sex.

Alternatively this, or hot dwarf pirate sex!

Anything else you need to know can probably be found in this tome.

Hahaha - yeah the bag guys that are British all have a very proper South England accent (think Charles Dance Game of Thrones).

Doesn't work quite so well when its a Yorkshire accent (think Sean Bean in any role he has ever played).

Watching Game of Thrones is quite funny for me as a lot of the "Northern" accents use regional dialects from where I live, while the Kings Landing folk all sound like they are from the South of England - amusing enough to digress anyway.

I have a serious question, for real: what is required to land a "major book deal"? Doesn't this imply to have a few chapters written plus an outline and a setting, and also people like editors to discuss this shit with?

But he doesn't even have a setting.

I guess I'm doing it wrong...creating a "world" and a story filled with well rounded characters then working on my craft and fixing it so it's a little better than a polished turd then getting an agent to try to represent me.

The key was to get a deal first THEN have someone else come up with the idea.
