Game of Thrones to Simulcast Fifth Season

Westeros

Recommended Posts

This is absolutely amazing, really—and unprecedented outside of, I don’t know, the Olympics: HBO and its sister networks and broadcast partners around the world will be simulcasting the fifth season of Game of Thrones. Not just the premiere episode (although that episode, it seems ,may air even more widely), but every single episode of the season. What does this mean? That means when it airs at 9PM Eastern on Sundays, it will air at the exact same time in all participating countries and territories. So for fellow HBO Nordic subscribers, for example, will have the pleasure of hitting bed early to then wake up at 3AM to watch it at the same time as fans in the U.S. Fans in Asia will be watching it in the morning. And more.

I think it is kind of cool but I would think you would want the show to air at prime hours not 3 am or whatever time it is in which ever country. I can see some tuning in but people work the next moring. I guess it works and it will obviously be aired at normal hours as well. I can imagine some peoples internal clocks will be getting screwy this year.

I'm sure they'll do normal time too, but this is probably in concert with HBO now a way to limit the piracy, give people more options.

Ah good, no more sitting around Monday morning waiting for it to air before I'm off to university then (not that I actually have Monday seminars anymore)

Amazingly bad! This means it airs at 11AM Monday morning here. Simulcast is a stupid idea, just air it at 9PM Monday everywhere in the world where it is already Monday when it is 9PM on the East coast of the USA; which is almost everywhere in the world.

Sunday night is HBO's iconic lineup slot and mostly every other networks primetime shows.

I think it's a good idea. Because with the internet we would be spoiled too much. I'm planning to record it and watch it monday morning before I go to work and before I check the internet (facebook, this forum, newssites, ...).

Lol so in countries where its being simulcast people are complaining, in countries where its not being simulcast people are complaining!

Simulacasting is a good idea for the die hard fans who don't want spoiling. Ideally it should be simulcast and then repeated at its usual 9/10 evening slot where possible for the more causal viewer.

At the end of the day, I just don't use this site or google GOT on Mondays until I've watched the episode. Are show spoilers that big a deal to avoid for a couple of hours?

I'm in the UK and Sky's move not to simulcast has really ticked me off. The fact that every country but this gets the show at the same time irks me more than it should. Heck, most the cast is British and we're the ones getting it last!

I have Sky Atlantic but I'll do what I always do and torrent it when I get back from work at 5 and watch it a couple of hours before it actually airs here.

Actually I love it they will simulcast it. It doesn't really matter in my country because they put it directly on demand or at least the day after.

But it is still strange what they do. At this moment they are planning to show it two times: not only the first time on 3 AM but also the second time?

Couldn't agree more! Plus we Sky Atlantic folk have to put up with 4 commercial breaks throughout the broadcast - they just make me scream.

I don't know if it's been reported here already or not but Sky is now simulcasting the series. That means you don't have to wait till Monday night-- you can watch it at 2am! I'm sure the leaked episodes and rampant piracy had something to do with this move. :)

Thanks, Lyger - yep, my son and I will be having a mid-evening nap and then watching the simulcast.... :) No ads - brilliant.

They're on at 1pm Monday here in New Zealand and while they messed up with the opening episode (ended up playing at about 3:30pm) it's been great catching the other two "live". Makes the worldwide community feel even tighter.
