Best Acted Scenes in GoT

Upon re-watching Season 1, I noticed that Mark Addy & Lena Headey did an extraordinary job when discussing Lyanna, their marriage, etc in Episode 5. (Not the best quality but here's the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8ES_ElI6Wg ) The depth and raw emotion of the encounter sailed right over my head the first time around, probably because I watched the first season before reading (and re-reading) the books.

What are some of your favorite GoT scenes purely in terms of acting?

Ned and Varys in the dungeon, the whole bloody scene:

"You want me to serve the women, who murdered my king, who butchered my men, who crippled my son!"

"I want you to serve the realm!"

"You think my life is some precious thing to me... as if I would trade my honour for a few more years of wha... of what?"

*goosebumps*

The Jaime & Brienne bath scene in S03E05. Nikolaj nailed the scene so perfectly. "By what right does the wolf judge the lion?" Goosebumps. Tyrion's speech at his trial was simply marvelous. Of course I have to mention Charles Dance here, his acting was so superb, I realized I was rooting for TV!Tywin, no joke. It's hard to pick a favorite scene, perhaps his scene where he skins that deer or one of his many scenes with Tyrion.

Michelle Fairley at the Red Wedding was absolutely amazing and so incredibly intense. I was disappointed when she wasn't even nominated for an Emmy.

I honestly think Fairley was the best actress on the show, so most of her scenes were superb, In terms of acting. I love the scene where Cat talks to Talisa about Jon, although I'm not a fan of what this scene represents (they were trying to redeem Catelyn for the "crime" of being mean to Jon Snow, but I don't think this is something that needs resolution or absolution). Regardless of that, the scene was still very touching, especially with the Red Wedding right around the corner, and extremely well-acted.

Many great choices so far. Nina Gold has made a terrific job with the show.

I personally love when Catelyn is grieving Ned's death and walks through all their bannermen to be alone in the woods and hears Robb and goes to comfort him... it gets me everytime

And also when Joffrey shows Sansa her father's head and she thinks about pushing him to his death... That look gave me goosebumps.

But if I had to pick the best acted scene it would be the Red Wedding. They were all magnificent in that scene.

Oh god, yes. I forgot about this scene, but it's certainly one of my favorites.

Even more so than the Red Wedding, this is the one scene that moves me to tears every time I watch it. Both Michelle Fairley and Richard Madden and absolutely brilliant, the scene is extremely well-written and the music gives me chills.

"And then we will kill them all ... " - goosebumps!

I loved the scene with Cat and Blackfish in Riverrun when she is remembering her father and then breaks down thinking about Bran and Rickon and how she will never see them again. Michelle was so good and I miss her a lot.

I also loved the Ned and Arya scene from season 1 episode 3 when he finds needle and they have a beautiful father/daughter moment. Sean was perfect as always but I realised how great Maisie is as Arya.

Joffrey facing off with his grandfather as he sits on the throne. When Tywin towers over him, he visibly shrinks and his voice changes. I love that scene. S3E7: The Bear and the Maiden Fair. Woof.

Yes!! Brilliant!! In a similar vein, the scene where Joff is sent to bed without his supper in 3.10 :) I love Lena's acting in that scene too. Basically I am here for any of the scenes where Tywin shits (not gold) over his family.

Oh, yeah. Seconded.

Seconded even more.

My other personal picks:

- Tyrion's speech in "Blackwater"

- the RW/PW

- Robert and Cersei in S1 (clue: "hate")

- Show!Tywin bossing Joffers

- Joffers and Margaery (when also Cersei and Olenna meet)

- Sansa, Marge and the QoT

- the duel (Oberyn vs. Gregor Clegane)

- Show!Tywin and Show!Pycelle (the scene that was cut actually)

- Davos, Stannis and Tycho Nestaris

- Show!Tywin and Show!Arya in Harrenhal

- Ramsay getting a clean shave from Reek (Theon) and the hunting scene

- Bran, Tyrion and Robb ("Cripples, bastards and broken things")

- Bobby B.'s arrival at Winterfell

- the "trial" in the Eyrie and the trial by combat after

- Show!Tywin skinning the stag and talking to Jaime

- Tyrion's wedding

- Oberyn with Tyrion in the dungeon (missed that)

- Joffrey. Really.

This one definitely stands out to me for a few reasons. Obviously because it was very well acted, first of all, but I think it remains memorable because when I saw it the first time I hadn't read the books yet, and once I did, I realized this was a scene written and created entirely for the show to give us some exposition on Robert and Cersei (before she becomes a POV). When I watched it the first time after reading the books, that was what really got me confident in the show as it's own entity.

Other ones that stick out have been mentioned: Jaime and Brienne in the baths of Harrenhaal, Robb and Catelyn after learning of Ned's execution, Arya and Tywin.

What about considering best portrayals? If we include that too, I'd go with Charles Dance/Tywin Lannister (spot on), Nikolai Coster-Waldau/Jaime Lannister (love the scene where he's first set out with Brienne and he realizes she loved Renly, and says he doesn't blame her, or him, because we don't choose who we love), Maisie Williams/Arya Stark, and Alfie Allen as Reek (less so as Theon, but he's been very good since he became Reek). Also Jack Gleeson made Joffrey every bit the contemptible, cowardly psychopath he was in the books.
