Diplomacraft: The North Year 0001, Turn 2(Months 4-6)

Main map: http://s101.photobucket.com/user/Shyox/media/northDiplomacraftbordersandcitycastle2.jpg.html

Beyond the wall map: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/6/6c/Westeros_-_Byound_the_wall.jpg

-The Starks have announced a wedding feast in honor of Lyessa and Cora's marriage to Mathis Ryswell and Lancel Mormont, respectively. They ask all true men of the North to bear witness to these unions in a gathering under the heart tree of Winterfell.
-Pentos and Braavos have declared war upon eachother, with Myr and Tyrosh entering the war on the side of Pentos. The Lorathi have sided with the Braavosi due to family ties in the upper heirarchy, but have not committed to the war effort yet. So far there have only been skirmishes and the war is in its early stages, but trade will doubtless be affected as the Narrow Sea descends into a warzone

PLAYER LIST:

1. Lord Lyman - House Mormont of Bear Island

2. Minstral - House Karstark of Karhold

3. Bright Blue Eyes - Mead King of Ruddy Hall

4. Stannis Joplin - House Ryswell of Sable Hall

5. TheCrannogDweller - The Night's Watch

6. Dobromir - House Flint of Widow's Watch

1. Lord Lyman Mormont (45) 3/5/2 : Bear Island Player: Lord Lyman
Vassals: Glover, Woodfoot, Bole,
Castles: Mormont Keep, Deepwood Motte
Prestige: 4 ("Neither Tooth Nor Claw" is being sung even outside of the lands of House Mormont)
Legitimacy: 10 (With the apprehending of the poachers and recent actions, your vassals are behind you and your position is quite stable, notably with House Glover, your strongest vassal)
Population: 170,000 / 1300 foot, 400 mounted
Income and coffers: 55,000 GD a yr / 78,750 GD
Resources: Fish, Exotic Furs
Traits and Notes:
Large Game - There are no better hunters than those of bear island, who tangle with the largest prey available south of the wall
South Coast - The South coast of Bear island remains fishable even in the deeps of winter, providing a steady though less consistent source of food, with the rest being free of ice the rest of the time
Skinchangers - House Mormont boasts a large number of skinchangers, rumors say
Fleet - The Bear has not forgotten the Kraken; House Mormont has the only sizable fleet this side of the North

The prisoners successfully reached the Shadow Tower and your ships have returned. Brandon Stark has agreed to wed Cora to Lancel, and proposes for the wedding to occur at Winterfell, where Lord Mathis Ryswell is to be wed to Lyessa Stark; Lord Stark has also sent word you will receive a fine dowry and is planning a large wedding feast for both parties. Craftsmen have come forward with numerous inventions, but none proved practical enough to implement. Some have claimed with time they may be able to accrue better results, and as Lord Lyman has not yet returned from Winterfell, they are continuing to try and impress at court

PLAYER CRISES:

-Word has reached you that a minor village on the mainland has a bout of illness going around; they are remote, but if things in the settlement are desperate some may begin to flee the village and thus spread the sickness.

-Aerys Oakwood has fallen afoul of the aforementioned sickness; your maester has already begun care for him, but he is bedridden for several weeks while still in the time of danger.

-Lord Garth Glover has approached you asking to arrange a marriage between Aegon Oakwood and his daughter, Catelyn Glover (19) 1/3/0; with the close relationship of the Oakwoods and Mormonts, this could be a good way to bind the Glovers to you more permanently and keep their satisfaction with the Mormonts high. There have been problems in the past with mainland vassals, and though legitimacy is high this could ensure their support in the times to come. A complete refusal would likely be taken with offense

2. Lord Atheld Karstark 0/1/1 (7), Karhold Player: Minstral
HIS REGENT: Adaric Karstark, Uncle- 4/5/4 (31)
Vassals: Greystark, Long, Greatwood
Castle: Karhold
Prestige: 6 (House Karstark is slowly climbing the power chain of the North)
Legitimacy: 7 (You have been able to keep complaints to a minimum from vassals, but there is still discontent. The profits however, also cannot be denied...)
Population: 300,000 / 2,300 foot, 700 horse
Income and coffers: 175,000 GD a yr. / 93,000 GD
Resources: Lumber(See below), Fish
Traits and Notes:
Greatwood Trees - The trees if Karhold are both plentiful and one of a kind; the greatwood tree only takes root in great number here, and Braavosi shipmakers pay highly for this as well as lumber for firewood, representing most of the Karstark income
Rural Coasts - The coasts are broad and the fishing is here is some of the best in the North, though it begins to freeze during winter and are somewhat hard to police
Woodland - This confers a bonus while fighting on your land, while also taking more time to mobilize men as well as making it more difficult to keep them fed in one place

Antheld has been at work developing the roads, and the construction of a small stone motte and bailey holdfast has begun to the north of Karhold. Atheld is slowly progressing with his studies, and has done well with his trip to meet with the Braavosi and Lord Long; he asks what the plans to name the castle are and seems very intrigued with the process. Lord Long has agreed to supply the labor force, but desires recompense or a title for one of his younger sons. The Braavosi have contributed 10,000 GD to the project and thus ensured this will be more than just a wooden keep. Barthold's drinking buddies have been assessed, and some are found quite cunning and skilled at arms; their loyalty is obviously a bit dubious, though with a proper leader they could pull off an operation maybe not suited to regular soldiers.

The men requested have been levied and appropriated to their new stations.

PLAYER CRISES:

-Exotic traders are beginning to filter into the Karstark lands; they carry valuable spices and products from afar, including fine fabrics and even books. Such luxuries can increase the prestige and majesty of your court, as well as help set the Karstarks apart from the drab Northern garb most nobles wear.

-An outlaw band of Northmen have formed and are disrupting travel throughout your territory. Their numbers are unknown, but they have been targeting the Braavosi and seemingly ignoring most other Northmen, suggesting possible cooperation with the smallfolk. Income still continues to rise, but this is beginning to seriously cut into profits.

-The Boltons come to you with an offer of marriage, Marence Bolton at the head of a column of 75 men; they suggest a match between Lyanna Bolton, known far and wide for her great beauty, and Antheld Karstark, well known for his charisma. They may find other matches suitable as well should they be delivered by a shrewd negotiator. They imply the infringement of your land rights will discontinue and offer a large dowry

3. Theon, mead king of Ruddy Hall (22) Chief Beyond The Wall Player: Bright Blue Eyes
Prestige: 3 (Theon has won a great victory against the slavers and gained the respect of 4 tribes of Hornfoot)
Legitimacy: 2 (The manual labor is driving morale down at Ruddy Hall, but the mead and tales of Theon's victories have had positive effect)
Population: 526 / 68 raiders, 24 green boys, 17 spear wives, 2 giants (Over 200 are hornfoot civvies gone directly over to Theon, the rest ice river clansmen or current inhabitants of ruddy hall)
Income and coffers: 1000 GD in valuables, 14 horses, 10 garrons, a galleon
Resources: Mead
Traits and Notes:
Mead - Ruddy Hall produces the finest mead this side of the wall, and has even interested brother's of the watch at times

The Battle of Hardhome: In the dark hours of night, Theon used carts and other wooden constructions to create a ring of fire around the slavers at Hardhome. The intent to force the slavers back onto their boats was partially successful, the fire creating panic among some of the slavers. The fighting then began in earnest with Theon leading the charge; the initial shock of the two forces hitting was preceded by a volley of crossbow bolts, but aside from this there were few casualties on the side of the free folk. The battle ended abruply when two giants carrying flaming brands broke into the circle and the slavers routed, running over one another in the hurry to reach the ships. Those who swam to the galleon Silken Spice were shocked to find the galley taken by Morna and her spearwives; the Essosi slaves did not fight on their side but also gave no resistance. Morna took a wound, but not before setting fire to one of the remaining galleys as it tried to flee. Around 50 slavers escaped; Theon managed to get 9 to surrender, the rest perished on either the field or in the water.

You took 9 horses in the fighting as well as a fair deal of valuables. The equipment is good as well; casualties on yours and the Hornfoot side were 21(2 spearwives, 3 green boys and 3 raiders under Theon), but they rejoice about being reunited with the captured Free Folk and all praise the bravery and cunning of Theon.

Meanwhile at Ruddy Hall, Rodrik has returned from the frozen shore with the dogs and the first shipment of bronze tools and arms arrived a few weeks previous, allowing the completion of the new farming grounds and apiaries. The dire wolves have moved on now that the prey isn't so easy, and production is back in full swing. Within two months the new apiaries will begin producing and a greater quantity of mead will be able to be brewed. However, also following Rodrik are what remains of the Ice river clansmen who were on the fence with Styr, the new chief of the clans; he successfully pushed out those who had any opposition and assimilated the rest after Rodrik had seemed to win them over during mediation, attacking by surprise in the night. They have brought their own possessions to encamp with, but they have wounded made worse by the journey and their morale is low.

Theon is informed of this almost immediately after the battle at Hardhome...

PLAYER CRISES:

-A mysterious gold and silver banded horn emblazoned with the runes of the First Men was found by Swygert (1/2/2) and the other two green boys with Rodrik. It was snatched from them by their aging tutor before it could be blown. None can read the runes incised upon it however...

-You now have direct control over a number of around 300 wildling civilians(for lack of a better word) at the encampment of the Hornfoots, the warriors of whom followed Theon and are with him at Hardhome. After the failure of their own clan chiefs to have prevented the slavers from capturing them, they now look to Theon for direction

-Theon has been directly challenged by the ice river chieftain after he and Rodrik had been 'interfering' with the ice river clans. He is also said to be meeting with Nightrunners and Greyskarls; he also attempted to meet with the Thenns but was rebuffed, as the ice river clans are known cannibals and thus the Thenns won't associate with them. The Greyskarls are named for having the practice of eating the elders of their clans; they lack organization and are known as fickle even among the free folk

4. Lord Mathis Ryswell (31) 5/5/5 : Sable Hall Player: Stannis Joplin
Vassals: Ryder, Fisher, Branch
Castles:Sable Hall, Lamebole Keep(Branch), Footfall Den (Ryder)
Prestige: 8 (The spending on recent projects has been noticed and your wealth impressed the North)
Legitimacy: 7 (The recent rumors about Lord Fisher have sparked debate about where your attentions lie, and if they look to often to the horizon and not at home)
Population: 285,000 / 1,800 foot and 1000 mounted
Income and coffers: 215,000 GD / 283,250 GD
Resources: Horses
Traits and Notes:
Horsemen - The rills boast the swiftest and fastest horses of the north, as well as the best riders
Longships - A number of fishing boats are available as well as a few longships to House Ryswell to help protect its coasts
Irrigation - Due to the nature of the rills, farmland is abundant due to easy irrigation methods, though not fit for all crops
By reducing certain taxes and distributing the flow of wealth efficiently, the problems with your vassals and the merchant guild co-existing have disappeared at a cost of income. Jackameau has further increased his martial characteristic by bringing down the white stag, and is now noted. There has been a delay with the delegation of the Night's Watch, though they are now expected any day.
Seign has returned from Barrowton with news that a delegation from House Dustin will be coming to stay within the coming months, but has noted that while he was there a man from White Harbor arrived letter in hand, stating it was of great importance.
On the production front: your levies have been gathered and are now training; the smiths report they are near halfway done with your order; your galleon is near halfway finished, and 5 longships are near completion as well, with men being hired to sail the crafts.
With the roads and infrastructure around Sable Hall improving, smallfolk are beginning to gravitate towards Sable Town. By giving land grants or reducing taxes on incoming citizens, you can increase this rate. Willem Ryswell is doing a most impressive job, and because of his organization things are rapidly improving within Sable Hall. He has completed one inn and refurbished two more, as well as establishing plans for irrigation on the outlying parts of the town and taking a lay of the land to assess the future development.
PLAYER CRISES:
-Ironborn have attacked your coastline by the northern mountains and are freely raiding it. They have travelled farther inland than was perhaps wise, coming near to Lamebole Keep. It is not known whether they have left their longships at sea or brought them onto land, but they must be expulsed before doing more than harrying your smallfolk. House Branch claims with the new standing army drawing men from their garrison, they cannot defend against the ironborn should they attack.
-Jon informs you there are rumors are abound that Lord Fisher has been practicing the right of first night, which is outlawed in the Rills. Something must needs be done to quash this talk or your vassals will begin losing faith in your ability to govern.
-A woman has arrived with babe in arms, claiming he is a bastard of Jon Ryswell. Jon denies the accusation but clearly looks uncomfortable, as well as the woman having recognized him on sight. The child favors the mother in appearance, but does not necessarily look unlike Jon...
5. Lord Commander Lucas Norrey (48) 5/5/4 : The Wall Player: TheCrannogDweller
Vassals: N/A
Castles: All castles of the wall are currently manned
Prestige: 10
Legitimacy: 9
Population: 10,000 / 1,000 rangers, 3,000 foot, 1,000 mounted (1000 horses, 1500 garrons)
Income and coffers: 15,000 GD / 65,000 GD (The Watch's income has been carefully allotted to maintain such a large standing force of men. As a consequence there is little liquid capital coming in.)
Resources: Virtually none
Traits and Notes:
The Decline of the Watch - The Night's Watch is an institution of great prestige, however over the course of time this begins to decline as the watch forgets its true purpose
Libraries of Castle Black - If there is a center of learning of the North, it is ironically at the wall, where thousands of books lie dating from beyond living memory
Colloquo mulls over your offer to take the black, and in the interim accepts your offer to travel to eastwatch to look for a ship. The delegation sent to the Ryswells has been delayed, but word of the situation is spreading through the upper echelons of the watch. Loren Lannister has taken the black (3/4/1) and the Lannisters have sent word back they received your message, while House Reyne has stayed silent. They say they will not forget this move, and that a Lannister pays his debts. Should the watch have a need, they will attempt to aid you quietly
Loren was then dispatched to the Nightfort, and it becomes clear one of the brothers of the former garrison committed the murder of their commander due to suspicious journal entries from the commander in the days previous. Loren reports that tensions are high and the guards uncomfortable, though with time he may be able to uncover more and restore normality. He asks to be given the permission to start an inquiry into the event, starting with interrogating the former guards of Frostfall.
The sickness at Frostfall is beginning to abate, but the villagers now complain of being harrassed by the brothers of the watch sent to aid them; they seem to be quite unconcerned with the authority of the watch and almost mutinous by some reports.
Player Crises:
-A large part of Icemark's roof caved in; 12 men were wounded and 2 killed. With the castle in the state of disrepair, it cannot be properly manned and is dangerous to its inhabitants. The repairs will cost an estimated 12,000 GD and thirty builders, expecting completion in 4 months.
-An excellent fighter has been noticed among the recent recruits not yet taken the black; he is 22 and stands over seven feet tall. He has been requested for the builders, but though his hands were made for hammers, those hammers may very well be for bludgeoning skulls. He appears disenchanted by the wall and may need some convincing to be brought around
*Lomas Waters (22) 0/1/5
-Two brothers of the watch have been discovered "digging for buried treasure" in mole's town and must be judged; one has been accused of the same crime before but never brought to bear due to lack of evidence, while the other is a fresh offender and newer man of the watch.
6. Lord Crow Flint (31) 5/5/5 : Widow's Watch Player: Dobromir
Vassals: N/A
Castles: Widow's Watch, Dayglow Keep
Prestige: 5 (House Flint has many branches scattered throughout the North, but those of Widow's Watch boast the highest prestige. They have no truly sizable vassals, controlling their lands and castles directly. However their reputation as wreckers is a bit too well known...)
Legitimacy: 9 (Your rule is unquestioned, but somewhat burdened by the vast amount of minor lords and landed knights needed to be attended)
Population: 140,000 / 1100 foot and 300 mounted
Income and coffers: 40,000 GD a yr. / 80,000 GD
Resources: Hardy Grain
Traits and Notes:
Abandoned Mines* - The lords of widow's watch at one time were made rich in trade of pale blue sapphires, but the mines supposedly dried up long ago and are now home to 'ground folk'
Lighthouse - Widow's Watch is a lighthouse
Wreckers - In conjunction with the lighthouse trait, the lords of Widow's Watch have been known to use guile to steer ships into crashing upon their shores and taking their bounties
Hardy Grain - The combination of strain of grain and ground around widow's watch has led to them being able to farm further into autumn and winter than anywhere else in the North
The engineer, Duluth Morbrand, has delivered plans to you for a suitable holdfast in which he plans to put most of the castle's space underground. He claims it will save on cost as well as be difficult to siege. All that will be seen is a large stone tower house and a palisade wall enclosing a small area for crops and dwellings of smallfolk, while underneath the earth will be impressive defense mechanisms and tunnels. He claims for 10,000 GD it will be a mighty seat for the cost, over twice the value of building atop a motte. He says he cannot build or design a ship, having never left the coasts of Westeros himself for long.
The knight Perceival Mudd has sworn you his sword and honor, and has accepted the delegation of duties commanded by you. He has now joined your court
Your maester has sent inquiry to the Iron Bank of Braavos, and as per request has estimated the cost of the journey to Yi Ti, the capital needed to buy necessary equipment and investment, and the ship itself to be 68,000 GD. He thinks this will be enough to also secure the knowledge necessary to proceed with the operation upon return. He has calculated a 5 month trip there and back if the winds favor you, and of course an appropriate envoy will need to be sent along to look after the interests of House Flint.
Your wife thinks that Widow's Watch should be able to easily cover the interest on a loan provided the amount isn't too large; it will be deducted automatically in turn expenses unless specifically ordered to not pay the debt.
You have bought sheep and are now preparing vast amounts of farmland for them to graze on. This can soon be handed out to new vassals and most will be producing great quantities of wool by year's end as the sheep population increases
Player Crises:
-A party of Boltons led by the bastard Locke Snow have arrived seeking audience and hospitality; they have brought fifty men and have and a Flint man at arms in chains. They claim he was found on their land, and after being put to the question say he admitted the attack on the Boltons was planned by your house. Though Locke is a gruff and grim man, the raven you receive from Selyse Bolton is almost glowing and speaks of putting the matter behind your two houses with a formal alliance. She offers to grant your brother Johanson a fiefdom in exchange for taking her hand in marriage; the heir and first daughter will be Boltons, but that any other progeny will take the name Flint and hold the castle in their own right.
-Bron Flint and his wife have not returned from a voyage to White Harbor they took weeks ago. Some remains were found with the sigiled brooch of House Flint among them, and they appear to have been set upon by feral dogs. Your maester suggests building a sepulchre in their memory after offering you condolences; a stonemason has been approached and estimated the cost of 2,000 GD to create a breathtaking sculpture that will show your care for your lost kin(increasing legitimacy), but you might also put it to other uses to increase your prestige...
-You awoke one night sweating and shaken; you had a strange dream that was so vivid you weren't able to sleep and waited lying there until dawn. In the dream you were a black bird, and a giant and a wolf took turns plucking feathers from you one by one, then cooked and devoured you while still screaming and living. Your maester claims the dream to be nonsense, but it has since occurred twice more, always the same and always as vivid. He advises you to take some medication for sleep and try to put it out of mind

7. King Gorne Magnar 4/2/5 : The Kingdom of Skagos (Stone) Player: Olligarchy
Castles: Deepdown, Driftwood Hall

Vassals: Crowl, Stane, Ysmir

Prestige: 5 (Fear is a paramount figure in this equation, causing many lords to shun the island all together, as they are known as slavers, cannibals, and worse)
Legitimacy: 9 (The Skaagosi are bloodthirsty people, who require raiding and plunder to sate them, as well as preservation of old customs such as first night. Give them this, and they are putty in your hands)
Population: 120,000 / 3,000 foot*
Income and coffers: 5,000 GD / 10,000 GD
Resources: Fish, Slaves, Obsidian Mines, Unicorn Blood/Horn/Hair*
Traits and Notes:
Unicorns - These creatures reportedly have great magical properties; their hair is whispered to be unbreakable and unlike any other material found in the world, their blood is reputedly able to grant great gifts to its drinker at a price, and its horns are said to be able to heard across great distances, inspire men, and even contact the children of the forest
Wildling Trade - Along with having trade with the wildlings for what few luxury goods beyond the wall land has to offer, they also are saddled with many a wildling washing up on their coasts, who they enslave and take as thralls, even occassionally selling them to those from the free cities, though your lords do not appreciate dealings with foreigners
Obsidian Mines - The lands of Skaagos boast of the only obsidian mines in the north, though the profession and act of mining is mocked as low by all Skaagosi, fit work only for thralls
Cannibals - The Skaagosi have methods to avoid starvation and harsh winters that are not even considered, let alone spoken openly of; some say they even engage in it ritualistically
*Skaagosi troops, while numerous and possessing almost unshakable morale, are poorly armored and armed

Traditionally thought of as a mythic, if poor and backwards land filled with peoples that would do better had they been thrown to the other side of the Wall, the isles of Skagos have recently been united by a charismatic warlord from the budding House that calls itself 'Magnar' which means 'Lord' in the Old Tongue. This warlord, Gorne Magnar has managed to bring the Skagosi under his sway... no matter how temporarily and become a threat to the other Northern Kings because of it.

Gorne Magnar, Stoneborn King of Skagos

Intrigue: 4
Statecraft: 2
Martial: 5

If the so called King of Skagos were to be summed up in a single word, that word would without the shadow of a doubt be Ruthless. A man of low means and skills, he has managed to unite the People of Skagos with fire and steel... slaying his rivals where needs be and making the rest thralls. During the last few decades he has finally managed to subdue his closest rivals of the Crowls of Deepdown and married one of their number, Harma that has born him a son called Toregg.

Toregg Magnar, 'Prince' of Skagos

In contrast to his brutal and overbearing father, Toregg is a surprisingly soft spoken man. Though he has the vicious streak that is a must for one to rule Skagos, he is also relatively well read and hopes that whenever his time to rule comes he can make something of his fathers ruthless and brutal conquests. He is unmarried as of yet due to lack of suitable match in Skagosi eyes... though there have been rumours of the Prince being sent North of the Wall to seek out a Wildling Princess in the future.

Intrigue: 4
Statecraft: 4
Martial: 4

Ryk Magnar, Brother of Gorne

A great brute of a man if the legends are to be believed, Ryk is a bolsterous and upbeat figure that loves nothing more than a good fight. Blessed with incredible vigor and stamina that has gifted him many bastards, he is the natural choice for raid leader for the Skagosi.

Intrigue: 1
Statecraft: 1
Martial: 5

Harma, Queen of the Stoneborn Skagosi

The beginning of Harma's story is hardly a glamorous one... having gone from a lady of Deepdown that was in poverty to a raped Queen of a poor land, she has still managed to make the most of it, subtly manouvering her husband to divert his attentions from her and towards the greenlands. She hopes to rule through her Son Toregg someday... someday soon if the Gods be Good.

Intrigue: 5
Statecraft: 5

The Court

Cregan Crowl, Would be Lord of Deepdown 3/3/3

Though his father was usurped from his rightful throne and his sister made a concubine, Cregan has elected to serve the would-be-king Gorne with the hopes of his title being restored. A ruthless man he also has an eye towards betrayal of the Magnar if the opportunity should present itself...

Kyleg Stane, Lord of Driftwood Hall 4/4/3

A seer, wiseman and Lord of the Driftwood Hall, Kyleg has anchored his rule to that of Gorne and hopes to ride on the mans coattails to glory for his own House. He actually has wise advice to offer should one wish to listen to him... which none does.

Player Crises:

-Harma has begun to be trailed by a large stag; she seems to have a natural affinity for the creature and it will not leave her side, as well as beginning to complain of strange dreams... Perhaps the despised greenland maesters know more, or the wise men of your own people?

-A galleon bearing around fifty men from Essos has washed up on your shores. They claim to be traders but carry little of trade value and you note there are shackles among the wreckage of their ship; the ship is badly damaged and was taking on great quantities of water when they managed to steer it to Skaagos. Your chief bannermen wish to take them as their thralls, but you may have other uses for them...

-House Ysmir has directly challenged your leadership and there is word he means to openly defy you. The house is led by an ambitious man named Jorgen (1/4/3), and he must needs be dealt with soon, either peacefully or forcefully. He may already be gathering men at his longhall

MID TURN, YEAR 0001, (Months 4-5)

The Weddings of Winterfell

Many great lords gathered to witness the bonds formed between Stark, Ryswell and Mormont; the Lord Commander of the Watch, Lucas Norrey made an appearance with an impressive escort of rangers. Lord Lyman looked on with pride as his son Lancel said his vows before the heart tree and took his bride in arms, Longclaw shining at the Lord's hip. Mathis Ryswell stood tall and serene before his young beaux as the daylight began to wane. The sun glinted in the eyes of the young Lord Atheld Karstark, and many an eye drawn by aunt Miri, notably those of Brandon Stark, and rumors have already abounded about a match between these two kinsmen; Brandon Stark greeted the party, kneeling to take the hand of the lady to kiss, while her brother Runtheld Karstark sat quiet and inconspicuous in a corner. He then picked young Atheld up and paraded the vibrant young lord about on his shoulders. Afterwards he gave him a personal tour of the castle and told the story of the Starks and Karstarks. Atheld was first timid and afraid, but upon seeing and being allowed to take in hand the greatsword Ice (which he could not lift) he could not be stopped from talking the ear off of Lord Stark. The singers Runtheld hired performed well, singing songs such as "A wolf apart" and "Neither tooth nor claw"; grand gifts were made to those in attendance and exported luxury foods from as far as Braavos accented the night with a feel of supreme elegance.

During a pre-ordained time, the issue of the Night's Watch deserter was called upon. The Lord Commander insisted that the deserter be handed over him so as to enact proper justice. Lord Ryswell claims Lord Lucas' intent out of place, and that he will deal with the deserter, in the old way of the North. His wife Lyessa however begs clemency for the fallen watchmen, though the guests are not moved as intended by this proclamation. Lord Brandon Stark then came forth with the notion the man be banished from the North; commander Lucas Norrey agreed, but vowed that if he ever showed his head in the North again, he would take it from him.

The Boltons were notably absent as well as the Manderlys, Flints, and Dustins, but the Lords Liddle, Umber, and even the Crannogman Jarl Reed made in appearance in lieu of his father. The feasting commenced soon after and the air in the hall of Lord Stark was light and merry, with much singing and drinking. However, it was not long so.

Brandon Stark was speaking to Lord Umber, and it rapidly became clear that they were engaged in a heavy argument. No steel was drawn, but Benjen soon shoved the wolf out of the way and left the hall in a great uproar, and was heard shouting something of rights and sovereignty. Brandon put on a lordly face, but there was a clear anger still burning in him. Runtheld Karstark presented him with a wondrous tapestry of fine fabric detailing the known history of House Karstark and Stark, but though he is polite and courteous he was still clearly perturbed by the gruff leaving of Lord Benjem Umber. He did however manage a smile when he asked the lady Mirissima Karstark to dance.

During their third jaunt around the hall, the Stark maester touched his lord on the arm and whispered something in his air. He recused himself for the nonce and disappeared from the hall. He returned a half hour later, his face greyer and grimmer than before. He sat quietly in his high seat at the table before standing and calling to make himself heard.

"It appears these are not the only nuptials of import in the North; the merling has married his daughter to the by Marence Bolton. Neither has graced my halls, and thus shown their underhanded designs on my realm. I mean to make my claim to the North this day, as House Stark has long held it safe and at bay from outward foes, and done its best to keep the peace and uphold the ways of our people. Rise and stand beside me if you will, and let us reforge The North to its proper glory, and House Stark to its proper place. I ask now for your oaths of fealty as a sign of commencement of my rule"

A prominent knight then stood with drinking horn in hand, declaring loudly, "KING IN THE NORTH! KING IN THE NORTH!", the hall echoing him and the fervor building with shouts of "Stark!" and "A crown, a crown!". The maester then came out with a pillow, upon it resting the crown of winter, which had crested the brow of the northern kings for thousands of years. Lord Brandon knelt, and rose as King. The time for fealty had now come, and he turned to the high lords Mormont, Karstark, Ryswell, and Liddle...

THE WALL:

Repairs on the castle of Icemark are now under way, and will be finished within three months by reports. Sixty men from the former Nightfort garrison, now at Frostfall, are recalled to their stations. They are then apprehended and a small scuffle broke out, leaving 2 of the Nightfort garrison slain and 5 of the now prisoners. Many refused to cooperate, but soon grey hungry and thirsty during their stay, and talked. Loren Lannister was able to deduce that a core group of 8 men arranged the murder. All but one are now in the ice cells awaiting judgment including their commander, all seasoned men of the watch with years or more under their belts. However, the secondary leader of the operation is still with the garrison at Frostfall, which have now mysteriously disappeared. The village itself breathes with relief as the sickness has abated and their unwelcome guests removed, but offer no clues as to where the men went. Wallace Manderly has restored the garrison to normal form, and tensions have dissipated aside from rumors of where the brothers at Frostfall have gone to.

Lomas Waters was brought to the top of the wall and by Cregan Snow and Willem Flowers, but was unimpressed. In the distance, Cregan Snow spotted a fire on the outskirts of the haunted forest. He set out, taking along Lomas. They found 4 wildlings, all sick and dying of the same flux; Cregan brought them back to the wall and had them quarantined, but cared for by maesters. Cregan himself then retired to the chambers of the lord commander; they are vast and elicit a feeling of great prestige. Upon seeing them, Cregan informs Lomas that a bastard may rise as high as any man on the wall, and that he himself could one day be lord over the great institution. A glint was in Lomas' eyes, and within a week had taken the black.

The two whoring brothers are reprimanded and fined, then released as they were off duty while visiting mole's town. Though not all at once, this has set a precedent about behaviour expected on the wall and traffic of brothers to mole's town and other surrounding villages has increased. On the other end of the spectrum, the spirits of the watch are once again quite high with the new recruitments and more lax rulings on celibacy.

BEAR ISLAND:

Aegon Oakwood is wed before the heart tree of Mormont Keep to the lady Catelyn Glover. Lord Glover embraces his new son in law and bestows upon him a dowry of 10,000 GD, then sends a fine captain at the head of 50 men at the behest of his Lord to deal with problems regarding a sickening village, along with the Glover's maester.

Aerys Oakwood has begun to steadily improve, though is still kept away from Lady Mormont during her time of vulnerability.

The new holdfast is progressing at a good rate, the main keep almost raised and work begun on the bailey. Aegon himself has overseen its construction, taking only a brief interum for his marriage to Lady Catelyn.

A craftsman has come forth with the design for a trebuchet so large, that none of its like has ever been seen in Westeros. He claims it can be built for under 1,000 GD in labour, and using the lumber of the Greatwood Trees of Karhold, or the Ironwood trees of House Forrester in the wolfswood. The plans detail it as an impressive siege weapon and relatively easy to operate.

You have received a 25,000 GD dowry from the Starks.

======

THE RILLS:

Jackameu Stout led a hundred mounted men to the seat of House Branch, and though he could not get the Lord Branch to cooperate by using his garrison to help dispel the invaders, Jackameau and his hundred easily cut off the Ironborn from the shore and slew them all after they broke immediately upon the first charge, aided by around fifty mounted men from Winterfell. Four Ryswell men died in the fighting, most from their horses going out from under them during the charge. The Ironborn ships were burnt as they lie in wait offshore, Jackamaeu Stout cleverly swimming over and fighting the remaining crew of one all by himself. Lord Branch commends your swift action and apologizes for not sending his garrison out, as he feared for the safety of his house. No gold was spent aside from what was used to pay the army

Lord Martyn Fisher arrived at Sable Hall and upon meeting with Lord Mathis before he departed for the wedding at Winterfell, and when pressed by Lord Ryswell said he thought the first night was the right of every Lord, and that the old laws ruled in the north. It becomes clear he is a stubborn man and bullheaded, with gruff speech and demeanor. He is observing of the courtesies due his liege though, and brought his own food and entertainers to your court to feast that night before departing in the morning.

Jon has agreed to acknowledge the child, but only at the insistence of Mathis and with grumbling. The woman has named him Marcus, taking the surname Snow for now though he is acknowledged as being of noble stock and may be legitimized later.

The infrastructure and roads of Sable Town keep improving, and increasing numbers of people have begun settling in the town, word now spreading fast of the open-handedness and wealth of Lord Ryswell awaiting them there. Your maester informs you however this growth might not be sustainable once the large public works projects are finished, as there will be too many hands and not enough labor.

You have also received a 20,000 GD dowry from the Starks.

======

KARHOLD:

The settlements of the Braavosi are now starting to grow rapidly, and this will create options for several baron titles to be made available, as well as of course the lord or landed knight title to whoever holds the new castle. House Karstark also control vast amounts of land directly for setting up more titles, and you can of course create other sorts of positions as well

There has been a marked decrease in illegal loggers and poachers from the Bolton lands with new patrols going up on the river banks, and some many say the recent bandits must also have come over from the Bolton borders.

The Karstark name is on the tongue of every peasant in the hold, with most followed by praise and preceded by the name of Antheld. He has sent word of plans to expand civil hunting and logging rights among the smallfolk, as well as using impressive shows of force and his own skill his own array of skills at arms. He has drank with them in taverns, buying rounds and setting up small banquets among villages. During one night of drinking, a wine sodden man informed him that he had seen a large group of armed men in shabby gear roving the site of a run down mill to the south of Karhold castle. He takes the hundred men used to meet the Boltons and rides out to the claimed spot; it is clear someone has been staying there intermittently, a large group of what seems to be near fifty men. He stayed there for some time, even doing some small part to fortify the structure should they return, with regular watches and ready to pursue any passerby, but the outlaws have not yet shown their faces. The name of the head outlaw has begun circling throughout villages and potshops, a hedge knight named Ser Miles Whyte (0/2/6)

The court of Lord Atheld has become a powerful sight, the stoic and striking sigil of Karstark emblazoned with great care to affect an aura of supreme confidence. It cows many a man and person coming before the lord regent, though the courtesy of the hall does much to waylay their nerves.

Barthold has organized his band of ne'er do wells into a band of warriors most uncommon; many are expert crooks with shady histories and shadier motives. Runtheld in a rare show of speech argues against using such men to personally guard Lord Adaric, though thinks they may have other purposes. They continue to train and are very slowly beginning to fall in line with being commanded.

A list of able men of the Karstark holdings has begun to be formed. There is one candidate who is particularly promising, the sixth son of Lord Long, named Samwell (4/3/2), and more names are being gathered over time. As to a captain of guards, most candidates are unremarkable but some young and quick to learn.

WIDOW'S WATCH

Unable to find the requested in Braavos, the Lady Flint negotiated the purchase of ships necessary to make the voyage and is expected to soon reach Myr. Things have gone well aside from a minor storm and seasickness, though it has not plagued your son who is rapidly becoming a fan of the sea, though not the lengthy time spent in cabin.

The sheep farming is coming along well, the population steadily increasing and the first wave of wool will soon be ready.

Lord Crow and his son arrived at the Dreadfort and greeted with great fanfare, with 200 Bolton men at arms on hand to personally give honor and tribute to Lord Crow Flint; Lady Selyse herself greeted the party, looking dazzling in a dress of purple silk. The food served that night was extravagant, Lord Crow noticing the taste of saffron in his food, a spice worth more than gold. She presents the Lord with the intended dowry, a large amount of 40,000 GD. The Lady Selyse slyly asks where the Lady Flint is, and makes a hint about worms and fine fabrics. She informs you of the marriage of Marence Bolton to a Minisa Manderly, and lets it be known she would offer Lord Crow the rights to use her trade route allowing for easy transport of materials, as well as arranging the use and special priveliges of White Harbor's vast port. The marriage is able to be performed at any time, the Lord Crow, the intended groom, and his son all guests at the Dreadfort in the interim.

THE FREE FOLK

The Magnar of Thenn sends Swygert back, praising Theon and greatly enjoying the gift made to him of the iron sword. He gives Theon a suit of fine bronze plate armor as a return gift along with the latest shipment of bronze tools and armaments. Upon his return, the two giants are consulted about the horn. They claim the markings were not made by their kind, but recognize it as being of the children of the forest, who they call squirrel folk. Swygert claims the giants revert to a different dialect when attempting to explain the writings, though he claims they used the word "hammer" multiple times.

Hardhome is now a burnt ruin, the free folk rejoicing in the butchery of the slavers and claiming of blood price. However, the Essosi slaves are horrified, and only half(73) accept Theon's offer before the others glumly go off in the direction of the wall. They ask how they will know it by sight, but Theon only laughs and sends them on their way with food. The other Essosi integrate well into life at Ruddy Hall, and as they are all men there are no large issues introducing them to the ways of the free folk. This frees up a deal of free folk to do other duties as well as the mead they were consuming, and they don't complain at all of the work as the free folk did.

The latest batch of mead has readied and the new apiaries are in full production, though hampered by the lack of knowledge of their keepers, though this is improving with time. A new settlement of free folk has begun to be established less than two leagues away from Ruddy Hall. As the Hornfoots are naturally nomadic, it has become a base with half of the free folk staying and the other half wandering about the north, returning occasionally and sometimes rotating out.

A Qohorik slave who claims to know something of metal work(how much and in what regard is unclear due to the language barriers) is noticed by Aly; Morna has mostly recovered and is organizing parties to help feed the hornfoots and free folk at the new settlement, now being called Waycamp; Rodrik was able to get enough of the slaves together to row the ship away, but has had no luck looking for those with knowledge of the arcane and ancient arts.

Though reluctant, the chieftain of the ice river clans follows through with his challenge of Theon to single combat after being greatly pressured by his followers who wish to see the recent slander against their leader answered for. What starts as a close fight ends quickly, Theon using his footwork and superiors arms and armaments to tire out the man and then disarms him of his warhammer; Theon stands over him iron longsword in hand, with the ice river men holding their breath...

Just wanted to let everyone know that there's no real rush to getting in plans or rushing them, this is a game to be played at leisure and for fun ;D

I'm thinking 3 day cycles for each turn segment sounds good, so that's about a week for the full turn. This seems to fit most people's schedule, let me know of any issues with this and we'll try to work around em

Worrrrrrd. I turn them in fast because my work schedule is insane to the point where I don't know if I'll have another shot to sit down and write out my turn. So, simply put, the chances I get, I treat like they're the only one I'll have. Haha.

Every time I get a message, my phone beeps like I got a text, which is great for hosting since I can return most people's queries pretty fast. Unfortunately I also have not figured out how to turn it off lol...

I think most players are almost done, this weeked seemed particularly busy for most so it seemed prudent to give a bit more time.

We'll try a stricter 3 day cycle next round, we want to keep things moving after all ;D

Just got in, logged some orders and already have a deal of the turn worked up, let's try and finish this up today to keep things moving. Also always feel free to give any long term plans for your faction ahead of time, so if you miss a turn with the strict schedule your faction won't be left getting nothing done

Mid turn is up, also note that some of you received PMs from me detailing matters of intrigue; as the game goes on and if people become opposed, we will obviously need to use PMs more and more to update people on the game so as not to give things away. Soon to follow will be armies, but oh lawd I think I need a nap first hehe
