Who does best as a smallfolk?

Recommended Posts

Which highborn characters would do well if they were born as peasants?

Tyrion could probably excel as a maester

Loras Tyrell, the Cleganes, Robert, and Jamie could do fabulously well as sellswords, tourney knights or sworn swords.

Mace Tyrell would starve or be thrown in a river

Arya could do well as a thief, spy or cutthroat

LF could scheme his way up the ladder

Sansa I don't know about

Joffrey would probably be executed

Stannis would jump off a cliff

Renly would wind up a male prostitute

Cersei pisses off the wrong lord and is executed

Catelyn could maybe pull off septa

Ned could be a sworn sword but likely wouldn't stoop to sellsword

Jon probably still winds up in the NW

Rob may also go NW or sellsword

Theon becomes a raider

Davos Seaworth. He would become a lord and the hand of a king.

Actually, I missed the word "highborn," I was thinking about any lords and nobles. Let me try again.

I like Arya and Gregor picks. Robert Baratheon should do well too, he's a big strong guy with simple tastes in life, he should fit fine in a farm. He would make 10 farm hands for himself and another 20 for his neighbours and die a happy man. Or maybe he becomes a blacksmith, that could be a great fit for him.

Tyrion would probably die right away because peasants won't feed him.

Littlefinger wouldn't get any education, he wouldn't know how to read and write or do math well. Nor would he become a ward to Tullies and Lysa's boyfriend. So I don't know what would become of him. Maybe he'd be a small time pimp in Gulltown.

Ned Stark would wed young, make babies, work hard and prosper as a farmer. Unless he's a younger son and doesn't inherit a farm. In that case he might just end up on the Wall and make a pretty good career.

Oberyn would probably become a retainer to some lord, seduce his daughter and get killed.

Tywin would be a successful, respected farmer. He would eventually gain trust of his lord and all area small folk and represent them in dealings with the lord.

Jamie would still sleep with Cersei. But Cersei is too good looking for a farm. Some lord or knight would try to get under Cersei's skirt, Jamie would kill him, and then they'd have to run away. Maybe they end up in the free cities, Jamie joins a sellsword company and learns to fight.

Mad Aerys would get hanged. Rhaegar would probably become a maester or a septon and learn to read, but then he reads something in some book and does something crazy and gets killed. Viserys would die early. Dany would become a whore.

Aeron Greyjoy doesn't get molested by his brother because there's no way for Euron to do that in secret in a small fishing hut, so Aeron lives a happier life as a fisherman or maybe raider. Euron pisses off some people in a tavern and gets killed. Balon and Victarion become successful sailors and raiders. Balon eventually builds a ship and becomes a captain, at which point he decides to conquer Summer Islands and gets killed. Victarion ends up a prisoner, but eventually he marries a local girl and makes a lot of love and lives a happy life on a beach.

Maesters only seem to come from highborn families. Tyrion's life would suck even more as a peasant.

Arya would be okay as smallfolk. She's a survivor.

Edmure seems to have a rapport with the smallfolk, I'd give him my vote. He might even be happier without the responsibility of being a Tully.

The Pate prologue seems to establish that there are plenty of smallfolk at the Citadel.

Stannis would most likely become a professional soldier/man-at-arms, but the person who does best is, other than Davos, probably Tywin or Littlefinger. Cunning, hard-working and ruthless, works well at every level.

The majority of the characters would probably die because they pissed off the local lord, or get sent to the wall.

Is it bad that I assume a large amount of male and female characters would be Prostitutes. Realistically, how talented are all the nobles in Westeros if they loose their position? On the whole, not very.

Gregor would be more likely to starve, yeah.

He's also more likely, morally and physically, to just steal food if he was starving.

Gregor would probably be noticed and recruited into some nobleman's retinue, and serve as a really scary henchman or bodyguard of sorts. So he would end up kind of like he did in the series, just a little lower on the social and economic ladder.

As long as the noble he was serving was okay with his "issues" of course, otherwise he'd probably get executed eventually.

Of course, many of them lack survival skills because they never learn them because they were noble so they'd have more if they weren't born into power.
