are these thoughts necessary?

Let's say you have a thought. You already did, of course. Let's say you had another one. Did you need to? What if you didn't? Would you have just used the last thought instead? I don't see why I'm thinking anything particularly important, that is relevant or meaningful to anyone. But then who is anyone? Anyone reading? It's interesting, you see, because clearly there's a limit on thoughts. You can't have too many thoughts, or else they all won't fit. So the decision to have some of these thoughts be General Chatter on the ASOIAF forum - dealing with this "Wise Fool" person's rantings - is a particularly interesting choice because there are, ostensibly, so many other things worth commenting on! So you stay and that means reality starts bending toward a certain direction by just a bit for a little while, because those thoughts that happened. It might not be much, but literally everything just changed. It's all a joke of course, because - and I shit you not - the question of whether any thoughts are worth having, or activities are worth doing, etc, are all merely variants of that philosophical challenge whether or not to "be" at all.

Is anything necessary? What if it all stopped? Would we be able to tell the difference? I think not, On the other hand, it's not stopping. We're going on all the time. Reality, you see, is like acne, and this moment in time is like the ripe pimple prone to bursting. Every moment is like that. Every place, person and thing! The tip of the spear.

Not stopping anytime soon. Things keep growing, and growing. This is life, this is universe, this is God, this is ego and Self and mind and spirit and personhood. A stick of bubble gum - curled back onto itself. We are the sugary heads of the greatest gum, touching each other, looking at each other. Reality continues to happen!

'Finally'? My friend, there is an entire thread.

But that's all self-contained. I can't trust true drunkeness when alleged drunks use the designated drinking thread. Besides, I keep hearing stories about posters who totally embarrass themselves on this forum while drinking. One can't be embarrassed if all the stuff they do is around other drunks.

Mostly, I just never go to that drinking thread because I always just thought it was a thread about what super refined drink one was having with their evening cigar, or something of that nature.

OP

I think you must first know what "it" is..... as everyone is different, we don't all put the same value on the same things!

In my opinion, there isn't a lot of things worth doing, though that doesn't mean you shouldnt do them.

Because someone somewhere puts value into it, and will find a way to do or think that way....

Thoughts, and ideas usually come from things we can relate to or things we can create.... how can this help? How will this be? How will I feel about it....etc

And they usually lead to other thoughts and or ideas...

Though these are only my opinions and I'm sleepy so I'm not sure if I've even made sense....

Good night everyone.

...if we all stopped the world would collapse. Or OUR world, the human world, whether or not that means anything in the big scheme of things i don't know but i honestly find it boring and pointless to get into the realm of "WHAT DOES ANYTHING MEAN" of my own accord because i end up there when depressed anyway. We are all walking around with our contained thoughts. Someone is writing a play at the moment and a piece of dialogue just popped into her head for one of the characters, someone just walked past a hot girl and thought "shes hot" someone is thinking about what they'll eat when they get home. I think its a waste of my time to consciously decide to start thinking existential thoughts because they ultimately lead to no where and like i said i already think those things when im depressed anyway.

So yes thoughts in general are necessary to keep us going, keep us working, keep us smiling etc but thoughts like "are thoughts necessary" might not be lol sorry wise fool i think across as snarky there, wasnt meant to.i might not have even understood the question anyway i just woke up

Something worthier?

Like what? The Mediterranean Sea turning into a mass grave? Come on!

We should set our priorities straight. And your rantings are top priority!

@WF- Are you at all concerned that by verbalizing thoughts you may start to privilege verbalizable thoughts? And maybe you are missing out on some evocative grunts or watercolors of rainbows and carefree fluttering birds? But maybe those birds aren't so carefree, their songs a desperate plea to secure territory and waning resources, their hatchlings slaughtered thoughtlessly by bored housecats let out to stretch their legs. Death is everywhere. There's a thought! Also a Depeche Mode lyric. The question remains, though, is Depeche Mode necessary?

'If you label me, you negate me." Kierkegaard, though I'm paraphrasing. Words have a way of diminishing the essence of what they refer to. So yes, I indeed tend to be careful about how much word spewage I'm emitting, lest whatever meaning I intended be hopelessly lost in the slurry mess. (Obviously not at the moment.)

Is Depech Mode necessary? No. Nothing is necessary. Therefore by implication, everything is necessary. I think that was the main point of my original post, though it's hard to remember.
