I get she is competent and smart, but why is she such an incredibly amazing person? I think it is almost guaranteed that she will get the democratic nod, but I think she and the dems will have a harder time of it than they did when they ran Obama. People already have had 8 years of Obama and may want something new. It will be tough for her to present herself as different from O in any substantive way. She will have a tough time getting Obama's coalition to back her mainly because she isn't a very good liberal. True, she is left-wing enough, but in an era when people want an "Anti-establishment, Washington outsider" she is flagrantly, almost proudly a part of the "establishment." People say she is a "strong feminist" but is she really? She hasn't particularly made feminism her big cause, and is willing to compromise her beliefs for large amount of money. Would a true feminist have been willing to take money from Arab oil kingdoms, without taking them to task on their (generally less than satisfactory) women's rights records, or making their improvement contingent upon their women's advancement? For a feminist, she has had remarkably little compassion/empathy for Bill Clinton's cast off mistresses. Apparently in the 90s she called Paula Jones "trailer court trash" and generally supported efforts to silence and intimidate Bill's women. I don't condemn her for it. If you love your spouse you generally are willing to go to great lengths to help them. Just don't call yourself a feminist while you do it. Idk, there seem to be fairly high negatives with her, things she'll have trouble overcoming. Its not so much anything bad or unethical that she's done which could do her in, its her personality. Its hard to put my finger on it, but she just seems like sort of a depressing, dispiriting person and Im not even sure why. Does anyone like her chances? She's probably an awful person, but that applies to any viable candidate for the presidency of the US. So I'm quite excited about the possibility of her winning because it would be a feminist landmark, irrespective of how much of a feminist she is personally.
