Sons of the Harpy Episode Guide

Westeros

Recommended Posts

One of the more divergent episodes of the season has concluded, and Westeros.org’s episode guide for “The Sons of the Harpy” is now live! Our usual detailed recap, book-to-screen breakdown, and analysis—plus extras from HBO —are all now available for your reading pleasure. We also just managed to get our review video up on Youtube, which means it’s still processing the higher definition options. For those who can’t wait, you’ll find the video below:

The Sand Snakes in the books are fantasy cliches, to pretend that GRRM made anything more than that of them is disingenuous. The show has turned them into TV fantasy cliches... big whoop. They're thin, rickety characters in both mediums, imo. We don't know how much of a role they'll play in the show, so I'll give them a pass until they really feature them as anything but side characters.

It has been a long time since I have posted anything, but this season has forced my hand. Like so many others; this season has been a disappointment on many levels, however, I’m giving it a shot anyway. My biggest fear is that the show will get to a point that will spoil the next book. But I digress.

The real reason I’m posting is because I found the dialogue between Stannis and his wife in “Sons of the Harpy” curious. It seems Lyanna and Rhaegar were the theme of the show. They were discussed by numerous characters, but the most interesting part was what Stannis had to say. Selyse reminds Stannis that Jon is just a bastard from some wench Ned Stark bedded in the war. “Perhaps,” Stannis replies, “but that was never Ned Stark’s way.” It seems to pure more fuel on the R+L=J fire.

If we are to believe that HBO and GRRM are to end up at the same place by the end of the show and books; do you think this is a setup for a future reveal? Or is it that I so deeply want R+L=J to be true that I’m seeing links were they are none. What do you guys think?

They are obviously setting up the reveal, though I'm not sure how it will fit in this season, so they may be prepping it for next. I would rather they made the reveal coincide with how it is done in the books, not for the sake of book purism, but because it is one of the underlying plot point of the entire series and should be executed the same way in both mediums.

Tyene used her only line to express her loyalty to her mother, Nymeria all got to do was nod and whip, Obara's the only one that got lines and she seemed better off then in the books. GRRM characterised her as stamping around being PO'd 24/7 about Old Town and being whore's daughter and whatnot. Show Obara already has a bigger range. The other two so far have exchanged cartoonyness for lack of characterisation. Ellaria's still the problem. But at least she wasn't expressing her desire to rip Myrcella limb for limb this time. The trailer tells us she's gonna get an intervention at some point, I just hope the Sand Snakes'll be on the right side of it.

I think thats where its going in the end but if someone only watched the tv show and binge watched up until now it still might not click because overall there havnt been too many moments like last nights where the scene was focused on R+L. I still don't know who they would have reveal that to jon flat out in the show. I guess maybe Aemon or Sam from Aemon

he bites down on his lip and almost shakes his head as if he's thinking " that's not quite right my dear". As much of a huge hint as all of Stannis comments about Ned's honor. Barristan's story is also purely for the show viewer to be able to grasp that whatever "common knowledge" exists regarding Rhaegar, it's very far off the mark.

I'm new here and haven't totally had a chance to explore every nook and cranny of the forum so if what I put forth is a repeat, please forgive me. That being said, am I the only one who thinks that maybe Bran is going to warg into a dragon?
