The Onion Kniggit
Who in your opinion are the worst commanders in the history of ASOIAF? For me Khal Temmo "Gods I hate infantry, it seems our arrows didn't kill enough of them. No Pogo we aren't flanking them! We are going to run these prissy motherfuckers over like all the worthless shits they are. Who cares if they are in tight formation carrying large spears and shields and the fact that we are pretty much unarmored light cavalry who shouldn't be charging at spear walls like morons. It also seems like no matter what we do to these skinny dudes they never seem to bulge or show signs of fear. Oh well who cares!" Clanker Lords "So our slave soldiers got fucked last time against the Unsullied and ran, fair enough. You know what would be a good idea, lets chain them together so they can't run........ or fight properly at all inevitably leading to their complete slaughter. Also the enemies will be able to hear them coming from a mile away which of course means that they will be prepared. But this will teach the Dragonslut. Muhahhaha!" *twirls mustache* Paezhar Zo Myraq "Little Pigeon" Ok at least this guy is smart enough to have his men armored (it's sad that I have to even compliment him for that) but come on Stilts? :bang: Not to mention the Herons are noted to be pretty darn craven. Honorable mentions Balon Greyjoy: I'm sure Tywin Lannister would agree he is a great strategist though. Mero: The lesson here people; Don't get drunk before a battle! Especially if you are facing a girl who already has a reputation for breaking deals and going back on her words. Nevermind the fact that she's the one who gave you the wine and maybe just maybe it might have been poisoned. Stafford Lannister: A 15 year old boy is beating your allies in the Riverlands pretty badly, you might want to post more sentries even if you feel safe. You are handling a bunch of rookies after all. There's probably a whole lot of other fools in Essos that I've forgotten about.
Lord BitterRaven
Bowen Marsh has never made a good choice, and he was a commander albeit brief. Edmure Tully is another strategic idiot. He's an able fighter, but not a good commander.

BitsOfBrains
Immory Florrent was pretty awful. He pretty much lost the black water for Stannis. If they could have taken the city before Tywin showed up Stannis claims his rights ax king. Mero wasn't bad. Certain decencies are supposed to be observed in warfare and his mistake was in assuming a girl who claimed to be a queen would have any honor. That's like saying Robb was a bad commander for getting murdered at the red wedding. They just underestimated how dishonorable the lowlives they were dealing with happened to be. Stafford Lannister was fine how he was, he didn't need sentries just outside Lannisport, for the same reason Kansas doesn't need air defences, he didn't know Martin would teleport Robb across the Westerlands so he could surprise Stafford and his army. Gibzit
Mace Thyrell. The seige on storms end was a massive waste on manpower. He is not smart and the bannermen does no respect him. Not assualting SE was actually a really smart move by Mace, who wanted to stay nuetral in RR, if Robert wins, he didn't actually do anything, if Aerys wins however, he gets rewarded for sieging Robert's castle. Wolf of The Wall
Balon Greyjoy takes the cake here. Robert Baratheon smash the Targaryen Dynasty. North is ruling by his closest friend. His wife is a Lannister. His Hand is Lord of The Vale. But Balon thought Robert is not powerfull as Targaryens. He kicked dragon's ass stupid what are you expecting. Floki of the Ironborn
Balon Greyjoy is my choice too. A stupid egomaniac who thinks the Ironborn were made to just pillage whatever they wanted with no consequence. And his plans to achieve that goal were even more dumb. Ser Pounce's Mum
I don't know about THE dumbest commander ever, but everyone in the middle management of that assorted Yunkaii army seems to be a pretty safe bet for the short list.
IdoTheChoombi
Hmm, Balon is quite worthy of mention for thinking any of this would work. Mace tyrell gets points too, just assault damnit, those guys are starved, or at least bugger off and help the trident.
Bronn Urgandy
Immory Florrent was pretty awful. He pretty much lost the black water for Stannis. If they could have taken the city before Tywin showed up Stannis claims his rights ax king. Stannis lost that battle basically because of hubris. Balon is hampered by his own shortsightedness and clinging to a long dead code his rather excellent father was doing a great job of abolishing, but considering his own self imposed limitations, he's not entirely awful. Still my pick, though.
Trigger Warning
The thing with Imry is I don't know what people expect him to do. If he sends scout ships or a probing force they're still going to be blocked by the Lannister fleet. He may have bull rushed it because of his own arrogance but that doesn't mean there was much wiggle room for a strategy anyway. If he miraculously manages to find out that there's hulks containing wildfire hidden behind the Lannister lines well then he's in much the same position anyway, he still has to attack or else scrap the naval assault all together in which case Stannis still gets hit in the rear by a vastly superior force. Universal Sword Donor
Hmm, Balon is quite worthy of mention for thinking any of this would work. Mace tyrell gets points too, just assault damnit, those guys are starved, or at least bugger off and help the trident. Assaulting would have cost him thousands of men, and he did send men to the Trident. He was playing a slightly more tilted version of Tywin's and Walder's gameplan. Do as little as possible until you absolutely have to commit (or bend the knee).

ForgottenKnight
The Floppy Fish is actually a good enough commander (leader) but he's a poor strategist. Tactics and strategy are not the same thing. I agree. Edmure is charismatic and has the loyalty of his liege lords without question. He just isn't that bright. In his defense he follows in honor and the romantic virtues that Sansa and Robb have in the beginning than he is about the "game".
robb stark of the north
Edmure Tally with his foolish mistake to defend the area near Riverlands and as a result to ruin Robb's plan of beating the Lannisters
Trigger Warning
What Edmure did was perfectly reasonable, why should he assume that Robb can pull a plan out of his arse to destroy Tywin on his home ground when Tywin outnumbers Robb at least 3 to 1. Instead of looking at it with all the hindsight Robb uses to guilt Edmure into patching up the Frey alliance look at it from the perspective of Tywin Lannister is returning West with all his strength and my king will be cut off from the Riverlands and vastly outnumbered with Tywin on his tail, maybe I should try and stop him while I have the defensive advantage.
