Balerion the one eared cat
Hey guys, firstly please correct me if I'm wrong for starting a thread - I've had a long look at past threads, but my search bar hasn't been working for a while now so I haven't been able to search for an existing one. If there is one, please link me to it and then close this one! Thanks :) Okay, so after seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron (and wanting to procrastinate from A Levels...) I've rekindled my love of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. I also loved reading GRRM's Dunk and Egg graphic novels (which I didn't think I would) and have thought that I might enjoy reading the original comic books on which MCU is based (don't worry, I know a lot of the stories/characters are different). Problem is, the Marvel Universe is massive! I have no idea where to start, because there are so many years' worth of characters, writers and stories... where is a "good" place to start, to ease myself in?I've never been a massive fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but I love all the Avengers stories (again, I know films and comics are not the same): mainly Thor, Iron Man, Hulk/Black Widow (though again, I think these two is mainly 'cause of Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johannson - I know they're not together in any of the comics). I'm thinking of starting with either Infinity Gauntlet, Winter Soldier or Civil War, is this a good idea? I know how ignorant I must sound to you guys, but I really am interested, just don't know where to start. I guess I'm mainly looking for interesting storylines and characters. Preferably a story which has more than one character I'd recognise. Is it worth starting with the first storyline where characters are introduced, or will I pick up their back story if I just start reading any old series? Any advice you could give me is greatly appreciated!(Again, sorry if I shouldn't have started a thread - feel free to lock this/link me to an original one, thanks!) MisterOJ
I'll give you the same advice I gave someone in the other thread: If you have a tablet and don't mind reading comics on it, subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. There is seriously just about every issue of Avengers ever created on there and you can read all of them you want for the ridiculously low price of $10 a month. Balerion the one eared cat
Thanks guys! I've since read The Infinity Gauntlet, which was bizzarre, but brilliant, and after reading the sample on the Marvel Unlimited website (thanks MisterOJ!) I've ordered two Black Widow series and Civil War, since it's apparently one of the best. Will also be buying Winter Soldier once I've saved up - £20 isn't exactly cheap but it's worth it! :D
FuzzydaBear
I started with Marvel's original Secret Wars back in the 80's.
