Ser Bonifer "the good" Hasty.

So I was rereading Dance when I noticed the tidbit about Rhaella's affair with a lowborn knight before she married Aerys.

So I searched the wiki on this and apparently this knight is ser Bonifer Hasty.

I then also realised that this same Bonifer Hasty is currently in control of Harrenhall.

So what I wanted to ask was if you think it is possible that Ser Bonifer will surrender Harrenhall to one of the Targaryens (most likely Dany because she looks like Rhaella)?

I think it depends in if he is bitter at the Targs or not. If not then, I think he will definitely have a role to play, we hear about him from multiple PoV's (atleast Jamie and Barristan).

I personally think he is going to surrender it to (f)Aegon. Remember he is at HH with his "holy hundred." I think the Faith sides with Aegon so he is drawn to him well before Dany gets there plus him being sympathetic to the Targs.

I wrote a post a while ago about how I think Aegon (assuming he has his foothold around Griffens Roost and

Storm's End

He is going to be in great position to surround KL without another battle. He gets Cracklaw point, which we learn from Nimble Dick is still very pro-Targ and then HH from Hasty after the Faith announce for him. Now all the sudden he has footholds in the southeast, northeast and northwest with the Reach in the Southwest (remember he may have 'friends' there as well, possibly around Bitterbridge area, I'd love it to be Tarly.

He is kinda similair to JonCon in that he has reasons to hate and love the Targs.

It wasn't an affair. They had feelings for each other, that is all.

ETA: she was also young when this occurred, since she was 14 or thereabouts when she had Rhaegar, unless my calculations are off, so at best married Aerys aged 13 (allows for a few months to conceive after marriage)

I do think GRRM purposely placed Bonifer Hasty and the Holy Hundred in Harrenhal, close to the action that will befall the Stormlands and Crownlands, and have him influence events for whenever Dany and her armies come to Westeros. Whether he remains pious and dutiful to the Crown, or sees his "what if" lover's daughter land in Westeros and need his help is yet to be seen. He can go both ways, in my opinion.

He could also be a wealth of information, since he spent time, off and on, in court at KL for the last ~45 years.

This too, he could provide more insight into the character of Rhaella and the court of KL at the time. He was noted in AFFC to have served Ser Orton Merryweather's grandfather, Lord Owen Merryweather, who was Hand of the King in 281- 282AC, which explains why he was around in court at the time and how they may have seen each other outside of the tourney where he named her Queen of Love and Beauty and become smitten.

I wouldn't be surprised, however, if GRRM pulled a fast one and revealed this mention of lost love to be less significant than we assume it is at the moment.

Bonifer is in great position to be a pivotal influence in the Seven vs R'hllor grudge match that's coming. With Dany being championed by a lot of R'hllorists, and also being the only remaining child of his great love (and looking a lot like her, one presumes), things could get interesting. Will he support her? Will he convert? Can he support her without converting? If he can support without conversion, can he work with R'hllorists? Will the High Sparrow kill him for being a sell-out and working with those demon-worshipers?

To be honest I think that he can serve Danerys without converting. He did fight for Stannis at the Blackwater after all, so it wouldn't be the first time.

So you dont think he is going to get into the Targ action prior to Dany coming, I.e. (F)Aegon? Especially if the Faith announces for "the unbashed".

I believe Bonifer's storyline is going to be linked with Sansa and Daenerys. I believe Sansa is going to be Lady of Harrenhal through her Baelish identity as well as Whent ancestry. She will rebuild Harrenhal as capital after King's Landing burns and feed smallfolk and shelter them with Littlefinger's wealth which she is going to inherit as Alayne Baelish. There are lots of references of Sansa as Mother and Maiden.

Maybe he'll side with Aegon, since he doesn't know the status of Dany or Dany/Aegon relationship. Then when Dany returns and there arises a conflict between the two Targs, he will betray Aegon for Dany, out of his love for Rhaella. And that shall be the treason for love.

He fell in love with a woman whose social status was far beyond his and when she married someone else (King Aerys) he devoted his life to the pious devotion of the Seven. He commands the Holy Hundred who are sworn to the Faith of the Seven. If he and his men are going to support anyone it will likely be the High Septon and his newly reestablished Faith Militant.

I hadn't really thought about him siding with Aegon. The emotional pull of Rhaella's (possibly lookalike) daughter might be stronger than that of her maybe grandson. Plus, you know, dragons tend to impress people.
